  • Nuclear astrophysics with radioactive ions at FAIR
  • 2016
  • Ingår i: Journal of Physics: Conference Series. - : IOP Publishing. - 1742-6588 .- 1742-6596. ; 665:1
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The nucleosynthesis of elements beyond iron is dominated by neutron captures in the s and r processes. However, 32 stable, proton-rich isotopes cannot be formed during those processes, because they are shielded from the s-process flow and r-process beta-decay chains. These nuclei are attributed to the p and rp process. For all those processes, current research in nuclear astrophysics addresses the need for more precise reaction data involving radioactive isotopes. Depending on the particular reaction, direct or inverse kinematics, forward or time-reversed direction are investigated to determine or at least to constrain the desired reaction cross sections. The Facility for Antiproton and Ion Research (FAIR) will offer unique, unprecedented opportunities to investigate many of the important reactions. The high yield of radioactive isotopes, even far away from the valley of stability, allows the investigation of isotopes involved in processes as exotic as the r or rp processes.

  • EXILL - a high-efficiency, high-resolution setup for gamma-spectroscopy at an intense cold neutron beam facility
  • 2017
  • Ingår i: Journal of Instrumentation. - : IOP PUBLISHING LTD. - 1748-0221. ; 12
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • In the EXILL campaign a highly efficient array of high purity germanium (HPGe) detectors was operated at the cold neutron beam facility PF1B of the Institut Laue-Langevin (ILL) to carry out nuclear structure studies, via measurements of gamma-rays following neutron-induced capture and fission reactions. The setup consisted of a collimation system producing a pencil beam with a thermal capture equivalent flux of about 10(8) ns(-1)cm(2) at the target position and negligible neutron halo. The targetwas surrounded by an array of eight to ten anti-Compton shielded EXOGAMClover detectors, four to six anti-Compton shielded large coaxial GASP detectors and two standard Clover detectors. For a part of the campaign the array was combined with 16 LaBr3:(Ce) detectors from the FATIMA collaboration. The detectorswere arranged in an array of rhombicuboctahedron geometry, providing the possibility to carry out very precise angular correlation and directional-polarization correlation measurements. The triggerless acquisition system allowed a signal collection rate of up to 6 x 10(5) Hz. The data allowed to set multi-fold coincidences to obtain decay schemes and in combination with the FATIMA array of LaBr3:(Ce) detectors to analyze half-lives of excited levels in the pico-to microsecond range. Precise energy and efficiency calibrations of EXILL were performed using standard calibration sources of Ba-133, Co-60 and Eu-152 as well as data from the reactions Al-27(n, gamma)Al-28 and Cl-35(n,gamma)Cl-36 in the energy range from 30 keV up to 10MeV.

  • Neutron-skin thickness from the study of the anti-analog giant dipole resonance
  • 2012
  • Ingår i: AIP Conference Proceedings. - : AIP. - 1551-7616 .- 0094-243X. - 9780735411036 ; 1491, s. 190-197
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The γ-decay of the anti-analog of the giant dipole resonance (AGDR) to the isobaric analog state has been measured following the p( 124Sn,n) reaction at a beam energy of 600 MeV/nucleon. The energy of the transition was also calculated with state-of-the-art self-consistent relativistic random-phase approximation (RPA) and turned out to be very sensitive to the neutronskin thickness (ΔRpn). By comparing the theoretical results with the measured one, the ΔRpn value for 124Sn was deduced to be 0.21 ± 0.07 fm, which agrees well with the previous results. The present method offers new possibilities for measuring the neutron-skin thicknesses of very exotic isotopes.

  • Nuclear structure studies of F-24
  • 2015
  • Ingår i: Physical Review C. Nuclear Physics. - 0556-2813 .- 1089-490X. ; 92:1
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The structure of the F-24 nucleus has been studied at GANIL using the beta decay of O-24 and the in-beam.-ray spectroscopy from the fragmentation of Na-27,Na-28, Ne-25,Ne-26, and Mg-29,Mg-30 nuclei. Combining these complementary experimental techniques, the level scheme of F-24 has been constructed up to 3.6 MeV by means of particle-gamma and particle-gamma gamma coincidence relations. Experimental results are compared to shell-model calculations using the standard USDA and USDB interactions as well as ab initio valence-space Hamiltonians calculated from the in-medium similarity renormalization group based on chiral two- and three-nucleon forces. Both methods reproduce the measured level spacings well, and this close agreement allows unidentified spins and parities to be consistently assigned.

  • Isospin Properties of Nuclear Pair Correlations from the Level Structure of the Self-Conjugate Nucleus Ru-88
  • 2020
  • Ingår i: Physical Review Letters. - : AMER PHYSICAL SOC. - 0031-9007 .- 1079-7114. ; 124:6
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The low-lying energy spectrum of the extremely neutron-deficient self-conjugate (N = Z) nuclide Ru-88(44)44 has been measured using the combination of the Advanced Gamma Tracking Array (AGATA) spectrometer, the NEDA and Neutron Wall neutron detector arrays, and the DIAMANT charged particle detector array. Excited states in Ru-88 were populated via the Fe-54(Ar-36, 2n gamma)Ru-88* fusion-evaporation reaction at the Grand Accelerateur National d'Ions Lourds (GANIL) accelerator complex. The observed gamma-ray cascade is assigned to Ru-88 using clean prompt gamma-gamma-2-neutron coincidences in anticoincidence with the detection of charged particles, confirming and extending the previously assigned sequence of low-lying excited states. It is consistent with a moderately deformed rotating system exhibiting a band crossing at a rotational frequency that is significantly higher than standard theoretical predictions with isovector pairing, as well as observations in neighboring N > Z nuclides. The direct observation of such a "delayed" rotational alignment in a deformed N = Z nucleus is in agreement with theoretical predictions related to the presence of strong isoscalar neutron-proton pair correlations.

  • Histidine decarboxylase expression in human melanoma.
  • 2000
  • Ingår i: Journal of Investigative Dermatology. - : Elsevier BV. - 0022-202X .- 1523-1747. ; 115:3, s. 345-52
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Histamine has been implicated as one of the mediators involved in regulation of proliferation in both normal and neoplastic tissues. Histidine decarboxylase, the only enzyme that catalyzes the formation of histamine from L-histidine, is an essential regulator of histamine levels. In this study, we investigated the gene and protein expression of histidine decarboxylase in melanoma. Reverse transcriptase polymerase chain reaction and in situ hybridization studies of WM-35, WM-983/B, HT-168, and M1 human melanoma cell lines both resulted in positive signals for histidine decarboxylase messenger RNA. A polyclonal chicken antibody was developed against human histidine decarboxylase and protein expression was confirmed by western blot analysis of the cell lysates, revealing a predominant immunoreactive band at approximately 54 kDa corresponding to monomeric histidine decarboxylase. Protein expression of histidine decarboxylase was also shown by flow cytometric analysis and strong punctate cytoplasmic staining of melanoma cell lines. Moreover, both primary and metastatic human melanoma tissues were brightly stained for histidine decarboxylase. When compared with the very weak or no reactions on cultivated human melanocytes both western blot and immunohistochemical studies showed much stronger histidine decarboxylase expression in melanoma cells. These findings suggest that expression of histidine decarboxylase is elevated in human melanoma.

    • The low-lying excited states in the neutron-deficient N = Z + 1 nucleus 8743 Tc 44 have been studiedvia the fusion-evaporation reaction 54 Fe( 36 Ar, 2n1p) 87 Tc at the Grand Accélérateur National d’IonsLourds (GANIL), France. The AGATA spectrometer was used in conjunction with the auxiliaryNEDA, Neutron Wall, and DIAMANT detector arrays to measure coincident prompt γ-rays, neutrons, and charged particles emitted in the reaction. A level scheme of 87 Tc from the (9/2 +g.s. ) state to the (33/2 +)statewasestablishedbasedon6mutuallycoincidentγ-ray transitions. The con-1structed level structure exhibits a rotational behavior with a sharp back bending at ~ω ≈ 0.50 MeV. A decrease in alignment frequency and increase in alignment sharpness in the odd-mass isotonic chains around N = 44 is proposed as an effect of the enhanced isoscalar neutron-proton interactions in odd-mass nuclei when approaching the N = Z line.

  • Evidence for Spherical-Oblate Shape Coexistence in 87Tc
  • Ingår i: THE EUROPEAN PHYSICAL JOURNAL A.
  • Tidskriftsartikel (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • Excited states in the neutron-deficient nucleus 87 Tc have been studied via the fusion-evaporation reaction 54 Fe( 36 Ar, 2n1p) 87 Tc at 115 MeV beam energy. The AGATA γ-ray spectrometer coupled to the DIAMANT, NEDA, and Neutron Wall detector arrays for light-particle detection was used to measure the prompt coincidence of γ rays and light particles. Six transitions from the de-excitation of excited states belonging to a new band in 87 Tc were identified by comparing γ-ray intensities in the spectra gated under different reaction channel selection conditions. The constructed level structure was compared with the shell model and total Routhian surface calculations. The results indicate that the new band structure in 87 Tc is built on a spherical configuration, which is different from that assigned to the previously identified oblate yrast rotational band

  • Collective rotation of an oblate nucleus at very high spin
  • 2019
  • Ingår i: Physical Review C. - : American Physical Society (APS). - 2469-9985 .- 2469-9993. ; 99:4
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • A sequence of nine almost equidistant quadrupole transitions is observed in Nd137. The sequence represents an extremely regular rotational band that extends to a spin of about 75/2 and an excitation energy of ≈4.5MeV above yrast. Cranked mean-field calculations of the Nilsson-Strutinsky type suggest an oblate shape for the band. They reproduce the observed I(I+1) dependence of the rotational energy whereas predicting a pronounced decrease in the deformation, which is the hallmark of antimagnetic rotation.

  • Evidence of chiral bands in even-even nuclei
  • 2018
  • Ingår i: Physical Review C. - : American Physical Society. - 2469-9985 .- 2469-9993. ; 97:4
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Evidence for chiral doublet bands has been observed for the first time in the even-even nucleus Nd136. One chiral band was firmly established. Four other candidates for chiral bands were also identified, which can contribute to the realization of the multiple pairs of chiral doublet bands (MχD) phenomenon. The observed bands are investigated by the constrained and tilted axis cranking covariant density functional theory (TAC-CDFT). Possible configurations have been explored. The experimental energy spectra, angular momenta, and B(M1)/B(E2) values for the assigned configurations are globally reproduced by TAC-CDFT. Calculated results support the chiral interpretation of the observed bands, which correspond to shapes with maximum triaxiality induced by different multiquasiparticle configurations in Nd136.

  • Magnetic dipole bands in 190Hg : First evidence of excitations across the Z = 82 sub-shell in Hg nuclei
  • 2001
  • Ingår i: Physics Letters, Section B: Nuclear, Elementary Particle and High-Energy Physics. - 0370-2693. ; 505:1-4, s. 6-14
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • An experiment aimed at studying high-spin states in 190Hg was performed with the Eurogam II array. The data have revealed the presence of cascades of magnetic dipole transitions with some unexpected properties. Unlike the MI bands previously observed in the heavier Hg isotopes, these structures have extremely large B(M1)/B(E2) ratios, The observation of a third dipole band with much lower B(M1)/B(E2) values in the same spin/excitation energy regime suggests that the bands may represent configurations occurring in different minima in the potential energy surface. Configuration-dependent Cranked Nilsson-Strutinsky calculations predict the presence of a minimum in the nuclear potential energy surface at a deformation of ε ≅ 0.2, γ ≅ -90°, occurring when a proton is excited across the Z = 82 shell-gap into an h9/2 orbital. It is suggested that the bands exhibiting anomalously large B(M1)/B(E2) ratios may be associated with this minimum.

  • 2020
  • Ingår i: Physical Review C. - 2469-9985. ; 101:2

    • An experiment involving a heavy-ion-induced fusion-evaporation reaction was carried out where high-spin states of Xe123 were populated in the Se80(Ca48,5n)Xe123 reaction at 207 MeV beam energy. Gamma-ray coincidence events were recorded with the Gammasphere Ge detector array. The previously known level scheme was confirmed and enhanced with the addition of five new band structures and several interband transitions. Cranked Nilsson-Strutinsky (CNS) calculations were performed and compared with the experimental results in order to assign configurations to the bands.

  • 2021
  • Ingår i: Physical Review C. - 2469-9985. ; 103:1
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • High-spin states in Xe123 were populated in the Se80(Ca48, 5n)Xe123 reaction at a beam energy of 207 MeV. γ-ray coincidence events were recorded with the Gammasphere spectrometer. Four new high-spin bands have been discovered in this nucleus. The bands are compared with those calculated within the framework of cranked Nilsson-Strutinsky and cranked Nilsson-Strutinsky-Bogoliubov models. It is concluded that the configurations of the bands involve two-proton excitations across the Z=50 as well as excitation of neutrons across the N=82 shell gaps resulting in a large deformation, 2≈0.30 and γ≈5°C.

    • High spin states have been populated in [Formula Presented] using the reaction [Formula Presented] at 130 MeV. The γ rays have been detected with the EUROGAM2 array. The level structure of [Formula Presented] has been investigated. Several bands have been identified and established over a wide range of spin. They are interpreted using the Nilsson-Strutinsky cranking formalism and explained in terms of band terminations. Their configurations are built from the valence particles and valence holes relative to a [Formula Presented] core: [Formula Presented] protons (and [Formula Presented] proton holes) and [Formula Presented] and [Formula Presented] neutrons. After [Formula Presented] is the second heavy nucleus and the first odd-odd nucleus in which configurations in the valence space are followed from low spin up to their termination.

  • 2019
  • Ingår i: Physical Review C. - : American Physical Society. - 2469-9985 .- 2469-9993. ; 100:2
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • One new pair of positive-parity chiral doublet bands have been identified in the odd-A nucleus Nd-135 which together with the previously reported negative-parity chiral doublet bands constitute a third case of multiple chiral doublet (M chi D) bands in the A approximate to 130 mass region. The properties of the M chi D bands are well reproduced by constrained covariant density functional theory and particle rotor model calculations. The newly observed M chi D bands in Nd-135 represents an important milestone in supporting the existence of M chi D in nuclei.

  • Ingår i: Physical Review C. - : American Physical Society. - 2469-9985 .- 2469-9993. ; 98:4
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The level structure of Nd136 has been investigated using the Mo100(Ar40,4n) reaction and the JUROGAM II+RITU+GREAT setup. The level scheme has been extended significantly. Many new bands have been identified both at low and high spin, among which are five nearly degenerate bands interpreted as chiral partners. Excitation energies, spins, and parities of the previously known bands are revised and firmly established, and some previously known bands have been revised. Configurations are assigned to the observed bands based on cranked Nilsson-Strutinsky calculations. The band structure of Nd136 is now clarified and the various types of single-particle and collective excitations are well understood.

  • 2014
  • Ingår i: Physical Review C (Nuclear Physics). - 0556-2813. ; 90:3
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The level scheme of the nucleus Te-120, populated in the reaction Se-80(Ca-48, alpha 4n), was reinvestigated using gamma-ray coincidence data measured with the Gammasphere spectrometer. Previously, five high-spin rotational bands were discovered in this nucleus. The present reinvestigation revealed that the decay of band b1 is more complex than suggested in the earlier work and that it cannot be uniquely determined. Furthermore, a number of new transitions are added to the level scheme. The implications for the spin assignments and excitation energies of the five bands and for comparisons with cranked Nilsson-Strutinsky calculations are discussed.

  • 2019
  • Ingår i: Physical Review C. - : American Physical Society (APS). - 2469-9985 .- 2469-9993. ; 100:5
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Three new highly-deformed (HD) bands are identified in Nd136 and the highly deformed band of Nd137 is extended at higher spin by four transitions, revealing a band crossing associated with the occupation of the second νi13/2 intruder orbital. Extended cranked Nilsson-Strutinsky calculations are performed for all HD bands observed in Nd134, Nd136, and Nd137, achieving for the first time a consistent interpretation of all HD bands in the Nd nuclei. The new interpretation has significant consequences, like the change of parity of the yrast HD bands of Nd134 and Nd136, and the involvement of two negative-parity neutron intruder orbitals in the configurations of most HD bands. The present experimental results and their theoretical interpretation represent an important step forward in the understanding of the second-minimum excitations in the Nd nuclei.

The extracted dipole moments of two negative-parity bands are only two times smaller than those of the lanthanide nuclei with N≈90 which present well-established octupole correlations. Calculations using the cranked quasiparticle random phase approximation and a model of quadrupole-octupole rotations with octupole vibrations reveal the structure of the bands and the enhanced octupole correlations at high spin in Nd136.

  • Core excitations beyond maximally aligned configurations in I-123
  • 2012
  • Ingår i: Physical Review C (Nuclear Physics). - 0556-2813. ; 85:3
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • High-spin states in I-123 have been populated in the Se-80(Ca-48, p4n) I-123 reaction at 207 MeV and gamma-ray coincidence events have been recorded with the Gammasphere spectrometer. The level scheme of I-123 has been extended up to spin I = 63/2. The nucleus undergoes a shape transition from moderately deformed states with collective rotation at low spins to noncollective oblate configurations at higher spins. Maximally aligned terminating states involving all nine particles outside the Sn-114 core and states with one particle antialigned are identified. A large number of weak transitions feed the terminating states. Cranked Nilsson-Strutinsky calculations have been performed to determine possible configurations for the observed energy levels.

  • High-spin rotational bands in I-123
  • 2012
  • Ingår i: Physical Review C (Nuclear Physics). - 0556-2813. ; 86:6
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • High-spin states in I-123 were populated in the reaction Se-80(Ca-48,p4n)I-123 at a beam energy of 207 MeV and gamma-ray coincidence events were measured using the Gammasphere spectrometer. Three weakly populated, high-spin rotational bands have been discovered with characteristics similar to those of the long collective bands recently observed in other nuclei of this mass region. Configuration assignments are proposed based on calculations within the framework of the cranked Nilsson-Strutinsky approach. DOI: 10.1103/PhysRevC.86.067305

  • Ingår i: Nuclear Physics, Section A. - : Elsevier BV. - 0375-9474 .- 1873-1554. ; 753:3-4, s. 251-262
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • High-spin states in Sb-106 have been investigated in the Fe-54(Ni-58, 1α 1p1n) reaction by in-beam γ-spectroscopic methods using the EUROBALL detector array equipped with charged particle and neutron detectors. On the basis of measured γγ-coincidence relations, angular distributions, and linear polarization ratios a significantly extended level scheme has been constructed up to spin and parity I-π = (19(-)) and E-x ∼ 6.5 MeV. The experimental results are interpreted within the framework of the gdsh shell model using a realistic effective nucleon-nucleon interaction. Candidates for states with fully aligned angular momenta in the π(d(5/2), g(7/2))(1) v (d(5/2), g(7/2))(5) valence space are identified at 4338 and 5203 keV, as well as in the π(d(5/2), g(7/2))(1) V(d(5/2), g(7/2))(4)h(11/2)(1) space at 6087, 6573 and 6783 keV.

  • Terminating bands in 98,99,100Ru nuclei : New information on the neutron 2d5/2 and 1g7/2 energy spacing
  • 2000
  • Ingår i: Physical Review C - Nuclear Physics. - 0556-2813. ; 62:4
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • High-spin states of 98,99,100Ru have been populated using the reaction 70Zn(36S, αxn) at 130 MeV. The γ rays have been detected with the EUROGAM-2 array. New high-spin bands have been established in these nuclei and interpreted as terminating configurations using the Nilsson-Strutinsky cranking formalism. These bands were observed up to the predicted terminating states which are built from g9/2 protons and N=3 proton holes combined with d5/2, 87/2, and h11/2 neutrons relative to a 90Zr core. Core-excited configurations with N=3 proton holes have been found to play an important role. The observed high-spin states assigned as terminating show systematic behavior and provide new information on the energy spacing between the 2d5/2 and 1 g7/2 neutron subshells.

  • Building, characterising and catalytic activity testing of Co-C-protected amino acid complexes covalently grafted onto chloropropylated silica gel
  • 2015
  • Ingår i: Journal of Molecular Structure. - : Elsevier BV. - 0022-2860. ; 1090, s. 138-143
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Co-C-protected amino acid (C-protected L-histidine, L-tyrosine, L-cysteine and L-cystine) complexes were covalently grafted onto chloropropylated silica gel, and the materials thus obtained were structurally characterised by mid/far IR and X-ray absorption spectroscopies. The superoxide dismutase-like activities of the substances were determined via the Beauchamp-Fridovich test reaction. It was found that covalent grafting and the preparation of the anchored complexes were successful in most cases. The coordinating groups varied upon changing the conditions of the syntheses. All materials displayed catalytic activity, although catalytic activities differed widely. (C) 2014 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
