  • Measurement of the differential cross sections for isolated direct photon pair production in p(p)over-bar collisions at root s=1.96 TeV
  • 2013
  • Ingår i: Physics Letters B. - : Elsevier BV. - 0370-2693 .- 1873-2445. ; 725:1-3, s. 6-14
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We present measurements of direct photon pair production cross sections using 8.5 fb(-1) of data collected with the D0 detector at the Fermilab Tevatron p (p) over bar collider. The results are presented as differential distributions of the photon pair invariant mass d sigma/dM(gamma gamma), pair transverse momentum d sigma/dp(T)(gamma gamma) azimuthal angle between the photons d sigma/d Delta(phi)(gamma gamma), and polar scattering angle in the Collins-Soper frame d sigma/d vertical bar cos theta*vertical bar. Measurements are performed for isolated photons with transverse momenta p(T)(gamma) > 18 (17) GeV for the leading (next-to-leading) photon in P-T, pseudorapidities vertical bar eta(gamma)vertical bar < 0.9, and a separation in eta-phi space Delta R-gamma gamma > 0.4. We present comparisons with the predictions from Monte Carlo event generators DIPHOX and RESBOS implementing QCD calculations at next-to-leading order, 2 gamma NNLO at next-to-next-to-leading order, and SHERPA using matrix elements with higher-order real emissions matched to parton shower.

  • Combined inclusive diffractive cross sections measured with forward proton spectrometers in deep inelastic ep scattering at HERA
  • 2012
  • Ingår i: European Physical Journal C. Particles and Fields. - : Springer Science and Business Media LLC. - 1434-6044. ; 72:10
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • A combination of the inclusive diffractive cross section measurements made by the H1 and ZEUS Collaborations at HERA is presented. The analysis uses samples of diffractive deep inelastic ep scattering data at a centre-of-mass energy root s = 318 GeV where leading protons are detected by dedicated spectrometers. Correlations of systematic uncertainties are taken into account, resulting in an improved precision of the cross section measurement which reaches 6 % for the most precise points. The combined data cover the range 2.5 < Q(2) < 200 GeV2 in photon virtuality, 0.00035 < x(P) < 0.09 in proton fractional momentum loss, 0.09 < vertical bar t vertical bar < 0.55 GeV2 in squared four-momentum transfer at the proton vertex and 0.0018 < beta < 0.816 in beta = x/x(P), where x is the Bjorken scaling variable.

  • Combination and QCD analysis of charm production cross section measurements in deep-inelastic ep scattering at HERA
  • 2013
  • Ingår i: European Physical Journal C. Particles and Fields. - : Springer Science and Business Media LLC. - 1434-6044. ; 73:2
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Measurements of open charm production cross sections in deep-inelastic ep scattering at HERA from the H1 and ZEUS Collaborations are combined. Reduced cross sections sigma(c (c) over bar)(red) for charm production are obtained in the kinematic range of photon virtuality 2.5 <= Q(2) <= 2000 GeV2 and Bjorken scaling variable 3 . 10(-5) <= x <= 5 . 10(-2). The combination method accounts for the correlations of the systematic uncertainties among the different data sets. The combined charm data together with the combined inclusive deep-inelastic scattering cross sections from HERA are used as input for a detailed NLO QCD analysis to study the influence of different heavy flavour schemes on the parton distribution functions. The optimal values of the charm mass as a parameter in these different schemes are obtained. The implications on the NLO predictions for W-+/- and Z production cross sections at the LHC are investigated. Using the fixed flavour number scheme, the running mass of the charm quark is determined.

  • Polarization of a stored beam by spin-filtering
  • 2012
  • Ingår i: Physics Letters B. - : Elsevier. - 0370-2693 .- 1873-2445. ; 718:1, s. 64-69
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The PAX Collaboration has successfully performed a spin-filtering experiment with protons at the COSY-ring. The measurement allowed the determination of the spin-dependent polarizing cross section, that compares well with the theoretical prediction from the nucleon-nucleon potential. The test confirms that spin-filtering can be adopted as a method to polarize a stored beam and that the present interpretation of the mechanism in terms of the proton-proton interaction is correct. The outcome of the experiment is of utmost importance in view of the possible application of the method to polarize a beam of stored antiprotons.

  • New experimental upper limit of the electron-proton spin-flip cross-section
  • 2014
  • Ingår i: Nuclear Instruments and Methods in Physics Research Section A. - : Elsevier BV. - 0168-9002 .- 1872-9576. ; 759, s. 6-9
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • In a previous publication, measurements of the depolarization of a stored proton beam by interaction with a co-propagating unpolarized electron beam at low relative energy have been presented and an upper limit of about 3 x 10(7) b for the electron-proton spin flip cross-section was determined. A refined analysis presented in this paper reduces the previous upper limit by a factor of three by the introduction of a new procedure that, also makes use of non-identified particles.

  • Polarizing a stored proton beam by spin flip?
  • 2009
  • Ingår i: Physics Letters B. - : Elsevier. - 0370-2693 .- 1873-2445. ; 674:4-5, s. 269-275
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We discuss polarizing a proton beam in a storage ring, either by selective removal or by spin flip of the stored ions. Prompted by recent, conflicting calculations, we have carried out a measurement of the spin-flip cross section in low-energy electron–proton scattering. The experiment uses the cooling electron beam at COSY as an electron target. The measured cross sections are too small for making spin flip a viable tool in polarizing a stored beam. This invalidates a recent proposal to use co-moving polarized positrons to polarize a stored antiproton beam.

  • Effect of the residual water content in gels on solution combustion synthesis temperature
  • 2020
  • Ingår i: Journal of Sol-Gel Science and Technology. - : Springer. - 0928-0707 .- 1573-4846. ; 93:2, s. 251-261
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The composition of gels and xerogels, as well as their transformation during heating and dehydration, determine the thermochemistry of solution combustion synthesis reactions. An improved descriptive thermodynamic model of combustion processes was formulated on the basis of the investigated formation of complex compounds of metal ions with organic fuel (glycine, citric acid, urea, and PVA) in nitrate solutions. The intensity of SCS reactions was found to depend on the strength of Ni2+–ligand complexes. The effect of heat loss during combustion on the ΔTmax value was analyzed for the model system Ni(NO3)2·nH2O–Fuel–H2O. It was found the heat loss occurs due to the presence of various amounts of structurally-bound water in gels and xerogels before the combustion. [Figure not available: see fulltext.]

  • Solution Combustion Synthesis of Copper Nanopowders : The Fuel Effect
  • 2017
  • Ingår i: Combustion Science and Technology. - : Taylor and Francis Inc.. - 0010-2202 .- 1563-521X. ; 189:11, s. 1878-1890
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Pure copper nanoparticles have previously been successfully produced by different combustion methods, but most of them require the use of an inert atmosphere (N2, Ar) during the synthesis process or the usage of addition post reducing of metal oxides. In this article, novel modification of solution combustion synthesis technique for one-step metallic Cu nanoparticles preparation was developed. The main unique feature of our approach is the use of microwave-assisted foam preparation. Also, the effect of different types of fuels (urea, citric acid, glycine, and hexamethylenetetramine) on the combustion process and characteristics of resultant solid products was investigated. It was shown that the combination of microwave-assisted foam preparation and use of hexamethylenetetramine as a fuel allows producing pure metallic Cu nanoparticles (~67 nm) by one-step solution combustion synthesis under normal air atmosphere without any post reduction.
