  • Distribution of indications and procedures within the framework of centers participating in the WAA apheresis registry
  • 2017
  • Ingår i: Transfusion and apheresis science. - : Elsevier BV. - 1473-0502 .- 1878-1683. ; 56:1, s. 71-74
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The WAA apheresis registry was established in 2003 and an increasing number of centers have since then included their experience and data of their procedures. The registry now contains data of more than 74,000 apheresis procedures in more than 10,000 patients. This report shows that the indications for apheresis procedures are changing towards more oncological diagnoses and stem cell collections from patients and donors and less therapeutic apheresis procedures. In centers that continue to register, the total extent of apheresis procedures and patients treated have expanded during the latest years.

  • One-dimensional spin texture of Bi(441): Quantum spin Hall properties without a topological insulator
  • 2015
  • Ingår i: Physical Review B (Condensed Matter and Materials Physics). - 1098-0121. ; 91:16
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The high index (441) surface of bismuth has been studied using scanning tunneling microscopy (STM), angle resolved photoemission spectroscopy (APRES), and spin-resolved ARPES. The surface is strongly corrugated, exposing a regular array of (110)-like terraces. Two surface localized states are observed, both of which are linearly dispersing in one in-plane direction (k(x)), and dispersionless in the orthogonal in-plane direction (k(y)), and both of which have a Dirac-like crossing at k(x) = 0. Spin ARPES reveals a strong in-plane polarization, consistent with Rashba-like spin-orbit coupling. One state has a strong out-of-plane spin component, which matches with the miscut angle, suggesting its possible origin as an edge state. The electronic structure of Bi(441) has significant similarities with topological insulator surface states and is expected to support one-dimensional quantum spin Hall-like coupled spin-charge transport properties with inhibited backscattering, without requiring a topological insulator bulk.

  • Methylome and transcriptome signature of bronchoalveolar cells from multiple sclerosis patients in relation to smoking
  • 2021
  • Ingår i: Multiple sclerosis (Houndmills, Basingstoke, England). - : SAGE Publications. - 1477-0970 .- 1352-4585. ; 27:7, s. 1014-1026
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Despite compelling evidence that cigarette smoking impacts the risk of developing multiple sclerosis (MS), little is known about smoking-associated changes in the primary exposed lung cells of patients. Objectives: We aimed to examine molecular changes occurring in bronchoalveolar lavage (BAL) cells from MS patients in relation to smoking and in comparison to healthy controls (HCs). Methods: We profiled DNA methylation in BAL cells from female MS ( n = 17) and HC ( n = 22) individuals, using Illumina Infinium EPIC and performed RNA-sequencing in non-smokers. Results: The most prominent changes were found in relation to smoking, with 1376 CpG sites (adjusted P < 0.05) differing between MS smokers and non-smokers. Approximately 30% of the affected genes overlapped with smoking-associated changes in HC, leading to a strong common smoking signature in both MS and HC after gene ontology analysis. Smoking in MS patients resulted in additional discrete changes related to neuronal processes. Methylome and transcriptome analyses in non-smokers suggest that BAL cells from MS patients display very subtle (not reaching adjusted P < 0.05) but concordant changes in genes connected to reduced transcriptional/translational processes and enhanced cellular motility. Conclusions: Our study provides insights into the impact of smoking on lung inflammation and immunopathogenesis of MS.

  • In-plane structural order of domain engineered La0.7Sr0.3MnO3 thin films
  • 2013
  • Ingår i: Philosophical Magazine. - : Informa UK Limited. - 1478-6435 .- 1478-6443. ; 93:13, s. 1549-1562
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We present a detailed structural study of tensile-strained La0.7Sr0.3MnO3 thin films. We use the substrate miscut to control the number of rhombohedral variants in the films and study the in-plane order and structural distortions. Using high-resolution X-ray diffraction, we demonstrate that step-edge induced lattice modulations occur in 4-variant films, whereas periodic twinning is the dominant in-plane order for 2-variant films. We show that the in-plane twinning angle is almost completely relaxed. However, the relaxation of shear strain by the out-of-plane twinning angle and the monoclinic distortion is only partial. Furthermore, the film thickness dependence of the domain width reveals that domain formation is a universal mechanism for shear strain relaxation. Finally, we show that the structural response to the transition from the paramagnetic to the ferromagnetic phase of La0.7Sr0.3MnO3 at 345K is smaller in 4-variant films compared to 2-variant films.
