  • Model-based estimation of metal analysis in steel converters
  • 2000
  • Ingår i: Proceedings of the 39th IEEE Conference on Decision and Control. - Piscataway, NJ : IEEE Communications Society. - 0780366387 ; , s. 2029-2034
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • A nonlinear observer is developed for metal analysis in the top blown converter process. It is shown that the observer is asymptotically stable and a region of attraction, where the estimation error converges, is derived. Using real plant data from the converter at SSAB Oxelosund AB, the observer is shown to provide accurate estimates of the carbon content.

  • Model-Based Estimation of Metal Analysis in the Steel Converter: Linear Versus Nonlinear Approach
  • 2001
  • Ingår i: Automation in Mining, Mineral, and Metal Processing. - Oxford : Published for the International Federation of Automatic Control by Pergamon. - 0080436927 ; , s. 267-272
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The problem of real time metal analysis estimation for the basic oxygen steelmaking process is considered. Nonlinear feedback is applied to a nonlinear process model, thus creating a non linear observer. It is compared to linear feedback on the same process model and is shown to have superior performance. Using real plant data from the converter at SSAB Oxelösund AB, the observer is shown to provide accurate estimates of the carbon content.

  • Internet-Administered Emotional Awareness and Expression Therapy for Somatic Symptom Disorder With Centralized Symptoms : A Preliminary Efficacy Trial
  • 2021
  • Ingår i: Frontiers in Psychiatry. - : Frontiers Media SA. - 1664-0640. ; 12
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Background: There is growing evidence that trauma, psychosocial conflict, and difficulties with emotional processing contribute to centralized somatic symptoms. Emotional Awareness and Expression Therapy (EAET) was developed to address these factors and reduce symptoms, and EAET has shown efficacy in face-to-face formats. No trial of an internet-delivered EAET (I-EAET) exists, however, so we developed such an intervention and conducted an uncontrolled feasibility and potential efficacy trial of I-EAET for patients with Somatic Symptom Disorder (SSD) with centralized symptoms (SSD-CS).Method: After screening potential participants, a sample of 52 patients (50 women, two men; age M = 49.6, SD = 11.9) diagnosed with SSD-CS initiated treatment. I-EAET consisted of nine weekly modules focused on psychoeducation, emotional awareness and exposure, and anxiety regulation with self-compassion. Therapists communicated with each patient by email for about 20 min per week during treatment, answering questions and giving feedback on homework assignments. Patients completed measures of somatic symptoms, depression, anxiety, trauma-related symptoms, and functional disability before treatment and again at post-treatment and 4-month follow-up.Results: A large reduction in somatic symptoms (PHQ-15) occurred pre-to post-treatment (d = 1.13; 95% CI: 0.84-1.47) which was fully maintained at 4-month follow-up (d = 1.19; 95% CI: 0.88-1.56). Twenty-three percent of the patients at post-treatment and 27% at follow-up achieved a 50% or greater reduction in somatic symptoms, and about 70% achieved a minimally important clinical difference. In addition, at post-treatment, there were small to medium reductions (d's from 0.33 to 0.72) in anxiety (GAD-7), depression (PHQ-9), trauma-related symptoms (PCL-5), and functional disability (Sheehan Disability Scale). For all of these secondary outcomes, improvements were slightly to substantially larger at follow-up than at post-treatment (d's from 0.46 to 0.80).Conclusion: I-EAET appears to be a feasible treatment for adults with SSD and centralized symptoms, resulting in substantial and durable improvement not only in somatic symptoms but in other psychiatric symptoms and functioning. Controlled trials are needed determine the effects of I-EAET specifically and how this approach compares to face-to-face EAET and to other internet-delivered treatments, such as cognitive-behavioral interventions. Research should also identify treatment responders and mechanisms of change in EAET.

  • Model-based estimation of molten metal analysis in the LD converter : experimental results
  • 2003
  • Ingår i: Proceedings of the 15th IFAC world congress 2002. - Oxford : Pergamon Press. - 0080442951 ; , s. 113-118
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Experiences from field tests of a nonlinear observer-based molten metal analysis estimation system are reported. The system performance is tested for a wide range of process conditions both on bulk data and in a supervised experimental campaign. Estimation of process model parameters and the observer design are discussed and exemplified on logged data. Observer performance is shown to be high with a mean absolute final carbon content estimation error for admissible heats equal to 0.0012%.

  • Transplanted Bone Marrow-Derived Cells Contribute to Human Adipogenesis
  • 2015
  • Ingår i: Cell Metabolism. - : Elsevier BV. - 1550-4131 .- 1932-7420. ; 22:3, s. 408-417
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Because human white adipocytes display a high turnover throughout adulthood, a continuous supply of precursor cells is required to maintain adipogenesis. Bone marrow (BM)-derived progenitor cells may contribute to mammalian adipogenesis; however, results in animal models are conflicting. Here we demonstrate in 65 subjects who underwent allogeneic BM or peripheral blood stem cell (PBSC) transplantation that, over the entire lifespan, BM/PBSC-derived progenitor cells contribute similar to 10% to the subcutaneous adipocyte population. While this is independent of gender, age, and different transplantation-related parameters, body fat mass exerts a strong influence, with up to 2.5-fold increased donor cell contribution in obese individuals. Exome and whole-genome sequencing of single adipocytes suggests that BM/PBSC-derived progenitors contribute to adipose tissue via both differentiation and cell fusion. Thus, at least in the setting of transplantation, BM serves as a reservoir for adipocyte progenitors, particularly in obese subjects.

  • Studies on decarburisation and desiliconisation of levitated Fe-C-Si alloy droplets
  • 2006
  • Ingår i: ISIJ International. - : Iron and Steel Institute of Japan. - 0915-1559 .- 1347-5460. ; 46:8, s. 1149-1157
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The rate of decarburization and desiliconisation has been studied in several Fe-C-Si alloys containing 4% C and 0.37-0.71% Si using electromagnetically levitated droplets at 1400 and 1660 degrees C in oxygen and helium atmospheres containing 10 and 20% oxygen. It has been found that the decarburization proceeds till a carbon content of about 0.5% is reached at a constant rate (the rates are 0.11 and 0.17%/s respectively for 10 and 20% oxygen) that is independent of temperature and silicon content. Beyond this carbon level, not only the decarburization rate has decreased but also the silicon content has started falling down. Optical microscopy studies showed typical white iron structures in the initial stages of decarburization (due to the small size of the droplet as well as rapid cooling) while low carbon acicular ferrite structure when % O-2 was 20 % and medium carbon structure when % 02 was 10 %. This corresponded to the higher carbon content (similar to 0.38%) of the latter. SEM studies did not reveal any oxide layer on the surface but EDS showed that the oxygen concentration was higher (0.02 to 0.24%) that extended to about 0.5 to 1 mu m depth suggesting that oxygen gradients do occur even in the initial stages of decarburization due to the high level of turbulence within the droplet due to the electromagnetic effects in levitation. Calculations based on Thermocalc gave logarithmic decrease for decarburisation while it was found to be linear experimentally. This could be due to operating parameters other than diffusion (like convection) taking place or nonequilibrium conditions (created due to turbulence) and shorter times used for levitation.

  • Towards Model-Based Closed-Loop Control of the Basic Oxygen Steelmaking Process
  • 1998
  • Ingår i: Elsevier IFAC Publications / IFAC Proceedings series. - 1474-6670. ; 31:23, s. 69-74
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Model-based closed-loop control of the basic oxygen steelmaking process will give an opportunity to increase process operation performance. By using control algorithms that interact with thermodynamical and physical models capable of making real-time predictions of the effects of control actions, the time delays in order to wait for process response will be eliminated. Existing limitations like pre-set lance programs can be avoided. This paper outlines the concept of a recently started project aiming at model-based closed-loop control as well as present the initial work that has been made on the subject.
