  • Robust estimation of bacterial cell count from optical density
  • 2020
  • Ingår i: Communications Biology. - : Springer Science and Business Media LLC. - 2399-3642. ; 3:1
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Optical density (OD) is widely used to estimate the density of cells in liquid culture, but cannot be compared between instruments without a standardized calibration protocol and is challenging to relate to actual cell count. We address this with an interlaboratory study comparing three simple, low-cost, and highly accessible OD calibration protocols across 244 laboratories, applied to eight strains of constitutive GFP-expressing E. coli. Based on our results, we recommend calibrating OD to estimated cell count using serial dilution of silica microspheres, which produces highly precise calibration (95.5% of residuals <1.2-fold), is easily assessed for quality control, also assesses instrument effective linear range, and can be combined with fluorescence calibration to obtain units of Molecules of Equivalent Fluorescein (MEFL) per cell, allowing direct comparison and data fusion with flow cytometry measurements: in our study, fluorescence per cell measurements showed only a 1.07-fold mean difference between plate reader and flow cytometry data.

  • Ingår i: 2021 IEEE/CVF INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON COMPUTER VISION WORKSHOPS (ICCVW 2021). - : IEEE COMPUTER SOC. - 9781665401913 ; , s. 2711-2738
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The Visual Object Tracking challenge VOT2021 is the ninth annual tracker benchmarking activity organized by the VOT initiative. Results of 71 trackers are presented; many are state-of-the-art trackers published at major computer vision conferences or in journals in recent years. The VOT2021 challenge was composed of four sub-challenges focusing on different tracking domains: (i) VOT-ST2021 challenge focused on short-term tracking in RGB, (ii) VOT-RT2021 challenge focused on "real-time" short-term tracking in RGB, (iii) VOT-LT2021 focused on long-term tracking, namely coping with target disappearance and reappearance and (iv) VOT-RGBD2021 challenge focused on long-term tracking in RGB and depth imagery. The VOT-ST2021 dataset was refreshed, while VOT-RGBD2021 introduces a training dataset and sequestered dataset for winner identification. The source code for most of the trackers, the datasets, the evaluation kit and the results along with the source code for most trackers are publicly available at the challenge website(1).

  • Pyridinic Nitrogen Modification for Selective Acetylenic Homocoupling on Au(111)
  • 2023
  • Ingår i: Journal of the American Chemical Society. - : AMER CHEMICAL SOC. - 0002-7863 .- 1520-5126. ; 145:8, s. 4545-4552
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • On-surface acetylenic homocoupling has been proposed to construct carbon nanostructures featuring sp hybrid-ization. However, the efficiency of linear acetylenic coupling is far from satisfactory, often resulting in undesired enyne products or cyclotrimerization products due to the lack of strategies to enhance chemical selectivity. Herein, we inspect the acetylenic homocou-pling reaction of polarized terminal alkynes (TAs) on Au(111) with bond-resolved scanning probe microscopy. The replacement of benzene with pyridine moieties significantly prohibits the cyclotrimerization pathway and facilitates the linear coupling to produce well-aligned N-doped graphdiyne nanowires. Combined with density functional theory calculations, we reveal that the pyridinic nitrogen modification substantially differentiates the coupling motifs at the initial C-C coupling stage (head-to-head vs head-to-tail), which is decisive for the preference of linear coupling over cyclotrimerization.

  • Highly stable CsPbI3 perovskite quantum dots enabled by single SiO2 coating toward down-conversion light-emitting diodes
  • 2023
  • Ingår i: Applied Sciences. - : MDPI. - 2076-3417. ; 13:13
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • All-inorganic CsPbI3 perovskite quantum dots (PeQDs) have sparked widespread research due to their excellent optoelectronic properties and facile synthesis. However, attaining highly stable CsPbI3 perovskite quantum dots (PeQDs) against heat and polar solvents still remains a challenge and hinders any further practical application. Here, by exploiting (3-aminopropyl) triethoxysilane (APTES) as the sole silica (SiO2) precursor, we report a one-step in situ synthesis of single SiO2-coated CsPbI3 (SiO2-CsPbI3) PeQDs, namely that one SiO2 particle only contains one CsPbI3 PeQD particle. The obtained SiO2-CsPbI3 PeQDs are cubic in shape, have a more uniform size distribution, and possess narrow emission, with near unit photoluminescence quantum yields of up to 97.5%. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy confirm the formation of SiO2 through the hydrolysis of APTES on the CsPbI3 PeQDs surface. Furthermore, they have a significantly improved stability against storage, heat, and ethanol. By combining purple-emission GaN light-emitting diodes, the SiO2-CsPbI3 PeQDs were successfully employed as down-conversion emitters and exhibited considerable enhanced luminous performance and excellent stability, demonstrating their promising future in the practical application of solid-state lighting fields.

  • Long-range angular correlations on the near and away side in p-Pb collisions at root S-NN=5.02 TeV
  • 2013
  • Ingår i: Physics Letters. Section B: Nuclear, Elementary Particle and High-Energy Physics. - : Elsevier BV. - 0370-2693. ; 719:1-3, s. 29-41
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Angular correlations between charged trigger and associated particles are measured by the ALICE detector in p-Pb collisions at a nucleon-nucleon centre-of-mass energy of 5.02 TeV for transverse momentum ranges within 0.5 < P-T,P-assoc < P-T,P-trig < 4 GeV/c. The correlations are measured over two units of pseudorapidity and full azimuthal angle in different intervals of event multiplicity, and expressed as associated yield per trigger particle. Two long-range ridge-like structures, one on the near side and one on the away side, are observed when the per-trigger yield obtained in low-multiplicity events is subtracted from the one in high-multiplicity events. The excess on the near-side is qualitatively similar to that recently reported by the CMS Collaboration, while the excess on the away-side is reported for the first time. The two-ridge structure projected onto azimuthal angle is quantified with the second and third Fourier coefficients as well as by near-side and away-side yields and widths. The yields on the near side and on the away side are equal within the uncertainties for all studied event multiplicity and p(T) bins, and the widths show no significant evolution with event multiplicity or p(T). These findings suggest that the near-side ridge is accompanied by an essentially identical away-side ridge. (c) 2013 CERN. Published by Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

  • Measurement of prompt J/psi and beauty hadron production cross sections at mid-rapidity in pp collisions at root s=7 TeV
  • 2012
  • Ingår i: Journal of High Energy Physics. - 1029-8479. ; :11
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The ALICE experiment at the LHC has studied J/psi production at mid-rapidity in pp collisions at root s = 7 TeV through its electron pair decay on a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity L-int = 5.6 nb(-1). The fraction of J/psi from the decay of long-lived beauty hadrons was determined for J/psi candidates with transverse momentum p(t) > 1,3 GeV/c and rapidity vertical bar y vertical bar < 0.9. The cross section for prompt J/psi mesons, i.e. directly produced J/psi and prompt decays of heavier charmonium states such as the psi(2S) and chi(c) resonances, is sigma(prompt J/psi) (p(t) > 1.3 GeV/c, vertical bar y vertical bar < 0.9) = 8.3 +/- 0.8(stat.) +/- 1.1 (syst.)(-1.4)(+1.5) (syst. pol.) mu b. The cross section for the production of b-hadrons decaying to J/psi with p(t) > 1.3 GeV/c and vertical bar y vertical bar < 0.9 is a sigma(J/psi <- hB) (p(t) > 1.3 GeV/c, vertical bar y vertical bar < 0.9) = 1.46 +/- 0.38 (stat.)(-0.32)(+0.26) (syst.) mu b. The results are compared to QCD model predictions. The shape of the p(t) and y distributions of b-quarks predicted by perturbative QCD model calculations are used to extrapolate the measured cross section to derive the b (b) over bar pair total cross section and d sigma/dy at mid-rapidity.

  • Observation of aerodynamic instability in the flow of a particle stream in a dilute gas
  • 2019
  • Ingår i: Astronomy and Astrophysics. - : EDP Sciences. - 0004-6361 .- 1432-0746. ; 622
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Forming macroscopic solid bodies in circumstellar discs requires local dust concentration levels significantly higher than the mean. Interactions of the dust particles with the gas must serve to augment local particle densities, and facilitate growth past barriers in the metre size range. Amongst a number of mechanisms that can amplify the local density of solids, aerodynamic streaming instability (SI) is one of the most promising. This work tests the physical assumptions of models that lead to SI in protoplanetary discs (PPDs). We conduct laboratory experiments in which we track the three-dimensional motion of spherical solid particles fluidised in a low-pressure, laminar, incompressible, gas stream. The particle sizes span the Stokes-Epstein drag regime transition and the overall dust-to-gas mass density ratio, is close to unity. A recently published study establishes the similarity of the laboratory flow to a simplified PPD model flow. We study velocity statistics and perform time-series analysis of the advected flow to obtain experimental results suggesting an instability due to particle-gas interaction: (i) there exist variations in particle concentration in the direction of the mean relative motion between the gas and the particles, that is the direction of the mean drag forces; (ii) the particles have a tendency to catch up to one another when they are in proximity; (iii) particle clumping occurs on very small scales, which implies local enhancements above the background by factors of several tens; (iv) the presence of these density enhancements occurs for a mean approaching or greater than 1; (v) we find evidence for collective particle drag reduction when the local particle number density becomes high and when the background gas pressure is high so that the drag is in the continuum regime. The experiments presented here are precedent-setting for observing SI under controlled conditions and may lead to a deeper understanding of how it operates in nature.

  • Studies of gas-particle interaction : Implications for the streaming instability in protoplanetary disks
  • 2020
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We present the early results from a novel experiment to study a particle-laden flow, under a parameter regime relevant to the conditions in planet-forming systems. We investigate the gas-particle interactions to identify the presence of and details regarding the streaming instability, which is theoretically predicted to aid the coalescence of small dust grains to form planetesimals - the macroscopic objects that will eventually interact gravitationally and become planets. We vary properties of the system such as dust-to-gas ratio, relative particle-gas velocity and gas pressure, for comparison to numerical simulations of protoplanetary disks. Experimentally calibrated numerical calculations of the particle motion within the instability regions will be used to model the evolution of protoplanetary disks at the scale of small dust grains, representing an unprecedented precision in our understanding of these difficult to study systems.

  • Cascade photon upconversion amplification for selective multispectral narrow-band near-infrared photodetection
  • Annan publikation (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • Facing the fact that selective detection of multiple narrow spectral bands in the near-infrared (NIR) region still poses a fundamental challenge, we have, in this work, developed NIR photodetectors (PDs) using photon upconversion nanocrystals (UCNCs) combined with perovskite films. In order to conquer the relatively high pumping threshold of UCNCs, we designed a novel cascade amplification strategy for upconversion luminescence (UCL) through cascading the superlensing effect of dielectric microlens arrays and the plasmonic effect of gold nanorods, which readily leads to a UCL enhancement by more than four orders of magnitude under weak light irradiation. By accommodating multiple optical active lanthanide ions in a core-shell-shell hierarchical architecture, the developed PDs on top can detect three well-separated narrow bands in the NIR region, i.e., 808, 980, and 1540 nm, respectively. Due to the large UCL enhancement, the obtained PDs demonstrate extremely high responsivity of 30.73, 23.15, 12.20 A/W and detectivity of 5.36, 3.45, 1.91x10^11 Jones for the 808, 980, and 1540 nm light detection, respectively, together with short response times in the range of 80-120 ms. Moreover, we demonstrate for the first time that the response to the excitation modulation frequency of a PD can be employed to discriminate the incident light wavelength. We believe that our work provides a novel insight for developing NIR PDs, and that it can spur the development of other applications using upconversion nanotechnology.

By accommodating multiple optically active lanthanide ions in a core-shell-shell hierarchical architecture, developed PDs on top of this structure can detect three well-separated narrow bands in the NIR region, i.e., those centered at 808, 980, and 1540 nm. Due to the large UCL enhancement, the obtained PDs demonstrate extremely high responsivities of 30.73, 23.15, and 12.20 A W-1 and detectivities of 5.36, 3.45, and 1.91 x 10(11) Jones for 808, 980, and 1540 nm light detection, respectively, together with short response times in the range of 80-120 ms. Cascade amplified upconversion luminescence: Applied in narrow band NIR photodetection Selective detection of multiple narrow spectral bands in the near-infrared (NIR) region is still a challenge. Recently, Hongwei Song and Wen Xu at Jilin University/China, Haichun Liu at KTH Royal Institute of Technology/Sweden, and their co-workers have successfully fabricated a novel multiple NIR bands photo-detectors (PDs) by combining multiple-excitation-bands core-shell upconversion nanocrystals (UCNCs) with MAPbI(3) perovskite photoelectric conversion layer. Through a cascade optical field modulation strategy, a combination of microlenses and gold plasmon nanocrystals, the emission intensity of the UCNCs and the photoelectric signal of the PDs can be enhanced four orders of magnitude. Moreover, the excitation frequency of the PD has been employed to discriminate the wavelength of incident light for the first time. This work provides a novel insight for developing multiple bands NIR PDs, and for applications of upconversion nanotechnology.

  • 2021
  • Ingår i: Cuihuà xuébào. - : Elsevier BV. - 0253-9837 .- 1872-2067. ; 42:9, s. 1553-1560
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This vertically self-pillared (VSP) structure extends the application range of traditional porous materials with facile mass/ion transport and enhanced reaction kinetics. Here, we prepare a single crystal metal-organic framework (MOF), employing the ZIF-67 structure as a proof of concept, which is constructed by vertically self-pillared nanosheets (VSP-MOF). We further converted VSP-MOF into VSP-cobalt sulfide (VSP-CoS2) through a sulfidation process. Catalysis plays an important role in almost all battery technologies; for metallic batteries, lithium anodes exhibit a high theoretical specific capacity, low density, and low redox potential. However, during the half-cell reaction (Li++e=Li), uncontrolled dendritic Li penetrates the separator and solid electrolyte interphase layer. When employed as a composite scaffold for lithium metal deposition, there are many advantage to using this framework: 1) the VSP-CoS2 substrate provides a high specific surface area to dissipate the ion flux and mass transfer and acts as a pre-catalyst, 2) the catalytic Co center favors the charge transfer process and preferentially binds the Li+ with the enhanced electrical fields, and 3) the VSP structure guides the metallic propagation along the nanosheet 2D orientation without the protrusive dendrites. All these features enable the VSP structure in metallic batteries with encouraging performances.

  • Quasi-single-crystalline CoO hexagrams with abundant defects for highly efficient electrocatalytic water oxidation
  • 2018
  • Ingår i: Chemical Science. - : Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC). - 2041-6520 .- 2041-6539. ; 9:34, s. 6961-6968
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Defects and structural long-range ordering have been recognized as two crucial characters for advanced electrocatalysts. However, these two features have rarely been achieved together. Herein, we report the preparation of single-crystalline CoO hexagrams and demonstrate their exceptional electrocatalytic properties for water oxidation. The quasi-single-crystalline CoO hexagrams, prepared at the critical phase transition point of -Co(OH)(2)/Co(OH)F hexagrams, possess both abundant oxygen vacancies as defects and structural long-range ordering. The matching between the b-axis of Co(OH)F crystals and the a-axis of -Co(OH)(2) crystals is critical for the formation of the CoO hexagram single crystals. The quasi-single-crystalline CoO hexagrams with abundant defects are highly efficient for water oxidation by delivering a 10 mA cm(-2) current density at a low overpotential of 269 mV in a 1 M KOH aqueous solution.

  • Development of Pdn/g-C3N4 adsorbent for Hg0 removal – DFT study of influences of the support and Pd cluster size
  • 2019
  • Ingår i: Fuel. - : Elsevier BV. - 0016-2361. ; 254
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Elemental mercury in the flue gas is highly hazardous to the ecosystem. However, its removal from gas phase is of challenges as it is highly volatile, chemically very stable and insoluble in water. It is therefore imperative to develop novel adsorbents that are efficient in the removal of elemental mercury from gas mixtures. In this study, density functional theory (DFT) was adopted to assist the development of novel adsorbents for mercury removal based on the in-depth understanding of the adsorption of Hg0 on g-C3N4, single Pd atoms and Pdn(n=2–4) clusters as well as the influences of the support and the size of Pd clusters on Hg0 adsorption. It is found that Hg0 atoms are physically adsorbed on the pristine g-C3N4 and are chemisorbed on the pure Pdn clusters and the Pdn/g-C3N4. The strongest adsorption happens on the Pd2 cluster and the Pd3/g-C3N4, while single Pd atoms doped on the g-C3N4 do not adsorb Hg0 atoms effectively. For a Pd4 cluster, there are at least four adsorption sites for the adsorption of Hg0, while these sites become more active in the presence of the support and the number of active sites for Hg0 adsorption on a Pd4 cluster doped on the g-C3N4 becomes seven due to the enhanced charge transfer from Hg atoms to the Pd cluster and the g-C3N4 surface. The most charge transfers are found to take place in the case of Pd2, Pd2/g-C3N4 and Pd3/g-C3N4, indicating the most intensive interactions between Hg0 and these configurations. Moreover, the shortened Pd-Hg bonds in the Pd3/g-C3N4 and the Pd4/g-C3N4 also shows the enhanced mercury adsorption, while opposite phenomena were observed in the other two structures, i.e., the Pd/g-C3N4 and the Pd2/g-C3N4.

  • Impacts of demand and supply factors on the capacity scheduling performance of logistics service supply chain with mass customisation service modes: an empirical study from China
  • 2017
  • Ingår i: Production planning & control (Print). - : TAYLOR & FRANCIS LTD. - 0953-7287 .- 1366-5871. ; 28:9, s. 727-743
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This paper studies the influence of the demand-supply environment on the capacity scheduling performance of the logistics service supply chain. According to the key characteristics of the demand-supply environment, the cases of five Chinese companies were introduced and cross-analysed, then research hypotheses were developed. After receiving 154 valid questionnaires and testing our hypotheses, some key conclusions were obtained. From the aspect of demand, there is a positive correlation between the customised levels of demand and the scheduling cost of logistics service integrators but a negative correlation between the customised levels of demand and the scheduling flexibility; From the aspect of supply, a higher self-support ratio of logistics source and a higher sourcing integrity of logistics service integrators will lead to a higher scheduling cost and a lower scheduling flexibility; a whole-process performance evaluation is a moderator, which will positively improve the impact of the whole process scheduling performance.

  • Apolipoprotein m promotes growth and inhibits apoptosis of colorectal cancer cells through upregulation of ribosomal protein s27a
  • 2021
  • Ingår i: EXCLI Journal. - 1611-2156. ; 20, s. 145-159
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Colorectal cancer (CRC) is one of the frequent malignant tumors and has a high mortality-to-incidence ratio. Apolipoprotein M (ApoM), a lipoprotein superfamily member, is primarily bound to high-density lipoprotein (HDL) particles. Our previous studies opined that ApoM crucially modulates CRC progression, but its role in CRC has not been elucidated. Here, lentivirus infection technology was used to overexpress ApoM in Caco-2 cells. Cell growth, apoptosis as well as clone formation assays were performed to explore the biological influences of ApoM in Caco-2 cells. Differentially expressed genes were analyzed via GeneChip microarrays and Quantitative real-time PCR (qPCR) along with Western blotting were applied to verify the results. Ribosomal protein S27a (RPS27A) expression in CRC and tumor-adjacent tissues was detected by qPCR, and its correlation with clinico-pathologic characteristics was explored. Our results showed that ApoM overexpression could promote Caco-2 cell proliferation and inhibit apoptosis. The microarray evaluation uncovered 2671 genes, which were differentially expressed, including RPS27A. The qPCR as well as the Western blotting data showed that ApoM overexpression significantly increased the expression of RPS27A. Moreover, RPS27A expression was remarkably higher in CRC tissues in contrast with the tumor-adjacent tissues and was positively correlated with the ApoM level in tumor tissues, and higher RPS27A expression was associated with smaller tumors and lower T stage. Functional recovery experiments indicated that knockdown of RPS27A counteracted the apoptosis inhibition and clone formation pro-motion induced by ApoM overexpression in Caco-2 cells. In conclusion, ApoM promotes CRC cell growth and inhibits apoptosis through upregulation of RPS27A.
