  • The Seventh Visual Object Tracking VOT2019 Challenge Results
  • 2019
  • Ingår i: 2019 IEEE/CVF INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON COMPUTER VISION WORKSHOPS (ICCVW). - : IEEE COMPUTER SOC. - 9781728150239 ; , s. 2206-2241
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The Visual Object Tracking challenge VOT2019 is the seventh annual tracker benchmarking activity organized by the VOT initiative. Results of 81 trackers are presented; many are state-of-the-art trackers published at major computer vision conferences or in journals in the recent years. The evaluation included the standard VOT and other popular methodologies for short-term tracking analysis as well as the standard VOT methodology for long-term tracking analysis. The VOT2019 challenge was composed of five challenges focusing on different tracking domains: (i) VOT-ST2019 challenge focused on short-term tracking in RGB, (ii) VOT-RT2019 challenge focused on "real-time" short-term tracking in RGB, (iii) VOT-LT2019 focused on long-term tracking namely coping with target disappearance and reappearance. Two new challenges have been introduced: (iv) VOT-RGBT2019 challenge focused on short-term tracking in RGB and thermal imagery and (v) VOT-RGBD2019 challenge focused on long-term tracking in RGB and depth imagery. The VOT-ST2019, VOT-RT2019 and VOT-LT2019 datasets were refreshed while new datasets were introduced for VOT-RGBT2019 and VOT-RGBD2019. The VOT toolkit has been updated to support both standard short-term, long-term tracking and tracking with multi-channel imagery. Performance of the tested trackers typically by far exceeds standard baselines. The source code for most of the trackers is publicly available from the VOT page. The dataset, the evaluation kit and the results are publicly available at the challenge website(1).

  • Loss of TET reprograms Wnt signaling through impaired demethylation to promote lung cancer development
  • 2022
  • Ingår i: Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences of the United States of America. - : Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences (PNAS). - 0027-8424 .- 1091-6490. ; 119:6
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Oncogenic imbalance of DNA methylation is well recognized in cancer development. The ten-eleven translocation (TET) family of dioxygenases, which facilitates DNA demethylation, is frequently dysregulated in cancers. How such dysregulation contributes to tumorigenesis remains poorly understood, especially in solid tumors which present infrequent mutational incidence of TET genes. Here, we identify loss-of-function mutations of TET in 7.4% of human lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD), which frequently co-occur with oncogenic KRAS mutations, and this co-occurrence is predictive of poor survival in LUAD patients. Using an autochthonous mouse model of KrasG12D-driven LUAD, we show that individual or combinational loss of Tet genes markedly promotes tumor development. In this Kras-mutant and Tet-deficient model, the premalignant lung epithelium undergoes neoplastic reprogramming of DNA methylation and transcription, with a particular impact on Wnt signaling. Among the Wnt-associated components that undergo reprogramming, multiple canonical Wnt antagonizing genes present impaired expression arising from elevated DNA methylation, triggering aberrant activation of Wnt signaling. These impairments can be largely reversed upon the restoration of TET activity. Correspondingly, genetic depletion of beta-catenin, the transcriptional effector of Wnt signaling, substantially reverts the malignant progression of Tet-deficient LUAD. These findings reveal TET enzymes as critical epigenetic barriers against lung tumorigenesis and highlight the therapeutic vulnerability of TET-mutant lung cancer through targetingWnt signaling.

  • Drastically increased absorption in vertical semiconductor nanowire arrays: A non-absorbing dielectric shell makes the difference
  • 2012
  • Ingår i: Nano Reseach. - : Springer Science and Business Media LLC. - 1998-0124 .- 1998-0000. ; 5:12, s. 863-874
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Enhanced absorption of especially long wavelength light is needed to enable the full potential of semiconductor nanowire (NW) arrays for optoelectronic applications. We show both experimentally and theoretically that a transparent dielectric shell (Al2O3 coating) can drastically improve the absorption of light in InAs NW arrays. With an appropriate thickness of the Al2O3 shell, we achieve four times stronger absorption in the NWs compared to uncoated NWs and twice as good absorption as when the dielectric completely fills the space between the NWs. We provide detailed theoretical analysis from a combination of full electrodynamic modeling and intuitive electrostatic approximations. This reveals how the incident light penetrates better into the absorbing NW core with increasing thickness of the dielectric shell until a resonant shell thickness is reached. We provide a simple description of how to reach this strongly absorbing resonance condition, making our results easy to apply for a broad wavelength range and a multifold of semiconductor and dielectric coating material combinations.

  • Acetylation of Checkpoint suppressor 1 enhances its stability and promotes the progression of triple-negative breast cancer
  • 2022
  • Ingår i: Cell Death Discovery. - : Springer Nature. - 2058-7716. ; 8:1
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Checkpoint suppressor 1 (CHES1), a transcriptional regulator, had been dysregulated in many types of malignancies including breast cancer, and its expression level is strongly associated with progression and prognosis of patients. However, the underlying regulatory mechanisms of CHES1 expression in the breast cancer and the effects of post-translational modifications (PTMs) on its functional performance remain to be fully investigated. Herein, we found that CHES1 had a high abundance in triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) and its expression was tightly associated with malignant phenotype and poor outcomes of patients. Furthermore, we confirmed that CHES1 was an acetylated protein and its dynamic modification was mediated by p300 and HDAC1, and CHES1 acetylation enhanced its stability via decreasing its ubiquitination and degradation, which resulted in the high abundance of CHES1 in TNBC. RNA-seq and functional study revealed that CHES1 facilitated the activation of oncogenic genes and pathways leading to proliferation and metastasis of TNBC. Taken together, this research established a novel regulatory role of acetylation on the stability and activity of CHES1. The results demonstrate the significance of CHES1 acetylation and underlying mechanisms in the progression of TNBC, offering new potential candidate for molecular-targeted therapy in breast cancer.

  • VLBI astrometry on the white dwarf pulsar AR Scorpii
  • 2023
  • Ingår i: Monthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society. - : Oxford University Press (OUP). - 0035-8711 .- 1365-2966. ; 520:2, s. 2942-2951
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • AR Scorpii (AR Sco), the only-known radio-pulsing white dwarf binary, shows unusual pulsating emission at the radio, infrared, optical, and ultraviolet bands. To determine its astrometric parameters at the radio band independently, we conducted multi-epoch Very Long Baseline Interferometry (VLBI) phase-referencing observations with the European VLBI Network at 5 GHz and the Chinese VLBI Network plus the Warkworth 30-m telescope (New Zealand) at 8.6 GHz. By using the differential VLBI astrometry, we provide high-precision astrometric measurements on the parallax (pi = 8.52(-0.07)(+0.04) mas) and proper motion (mu(alpha) = 9.48(-0.07)(+0.04) mas yr(-1), mu(delta) = -51.32(-0.38)(+0.22) mas yr (-1)). The new VLBI results agree with the optical Gaia astrometry. Our kinematic analysis reveals that the Galactic space velocities of AR Sco are quite consistent with that of both intermediate polars and polars. Combined with the previous tightest VLBI constraint on the size, our parallax distance suggests that the radio emission of AR Sco should be located within the light cylinder of its white dwarf.

  • Global change effects on plant communities are magnified by time and the number of global change factors imposed
  • 2019
  • Ingår i: Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences of the United States of America. - : National Academy of Sciences. - 0027-8424 .- 1091-6490. ; 116:36, s. 17867-17873
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Accurate prediction of community responses to global change drivers (GCDs) is critical given the effects of biodiversity on ecosystem services. There is consensus that human activities are driving species extinctions at the global scale, but debate remains over whether GCDs are systematically altering local communities worldwide. Across 105 experiments that included over 400 experimental manipulations, we found evidence for a lagged response of herbaceous plant communities to GCDs caused by shifts in the identities and relative abundances of species, often without a corresponding difference in species richness. These results provide evidence that community responses are pervasive across a wide variety of GCDs on long-term temporal scales and that these responses increase in strength when multiple GCDs are simultaneously imposed.Global change drivers (GCDs) are expected to alter community structure and consequently, the services that ecosystems provide. Yet, few experimental investigations have examined effects of GCDs on plant community structure across multiple ecosystem types, and those that do exist present conflicting patterns. In an unprecedented global synthesis of over 100 experiments that manipulated factors linked to GCDs, we show that herbaceous plant community responses depend on experimental manipulation length and number of factors manipulated. We found that plant communities are fairly resistant to experimentally manipulated GCDs in the short term (<10 y). In contrast, long-term (≥10 y) experiments show increasing community divergence of treatments from control conditions. Surprisingly, these community responses occurred with similar frequency across the GCD types manipulated in our database. However, community responses were more common when 3 or more GCDs were simultaneously manipulated, suggesting the emergence of additive or synergistic effects of multiple drivers, particularly over long time periods. In half of the cases, GCD manipulations caused a difference in community composition without a corresponding species richness difference, indicating that species reordering or replacement is an important mechanism of community responses to GCDs and should be given greater consideration when examining consequences of GCDs for the biodiversity–ecosystem function relationship. Human activities are currently driving unparalleled global changes worldwide. Our analyses provide the most comprehensive evidence to date that these human activities may have widespread impacts on plant community composition globally, which will increase in frequency over time and be greater in areas where communities face multiple GCDs simultaneously.

  • A Thermal Excitation Based Partial Discharge Detection Method for Cable Accessory
  • 2023
  • Ingår i: IEEE Transactions on Power Delivery. - 0885-8977 .- 1937-4208. ; 38:4, s. 2703-2710
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Partial discharge (PD) test has been widely used in condition assessment for power cables. However, discharge extinguish phenomenon occurred in PD detection hinders the effective detection of potential defects in cable accessories. For this reason, a novel PD detection method based on thermal excitation is proposed in this paper to eliminate the extinguish phenomenon and to detect the potential defects in earlier stage. First, the physical processes in PD activity and the reasons for discharge extinguishing are introduced. Then, the principle and mechanism of the thermal excitation detection method are described and analyzed respectively, that is excitation by external heating to break the dynamic equilibrium of charge movement within the defect and further stimulate new discharges. And a finite element simulation model is constructed to determine the thermal excitation parameters. Finally, the effectiveness is validated by performing thermal excitation-based PD test on some defective cables. The experimental results show that this method can significantly increase the number of discharges in off-line test, while also stimulating PD of higher amplitudes in on-line monitoring. This method can improve the sensitivity of PD detection for cable accessories and detect potential defects in early stage.

  • Experimental Investigation on Drawdown of Floating Particles in Viscous Systems Driven by Coaxial Mixers
  • 2019
  • Ingår i: Industrial and Engineering Chemistry Research. - : American Chemical Society (ACS). - 0888-5885 .- 1520-5045. ; 58, s. 11060-11071
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • In view of the current situation of single form and low efficiency, a coaxial mixer with wide adaptability was combined with the drawdown of floating particles in viscous systems, and the effects of operation mode, impeller type, impeller diameter, impeller submergence, system viscosity, solid concentration and particle size were investigated experimentally. It is found that the coaxial mixer under corotation mode can achieve the critical drawdown of floating particles with lower speed and power than the corresponding single-shaft mixer, and the advantage becomes more obvious with increasing system viscosity and solid volume fraction. Under the same conditions, compared with the axial and radial flow impellers, the mixed flow impeller with down-pumping mode can effectively draw the floating particles down with the lowest critical speed and power. Moreover, a larger impeller diameter and smaller impeller submergence are recommended for the drawdown of floating particles, but the impeller diameter should not exceed half of the vessel diameter.

  • A wide-range operating synaptic device based on organic ferroelectricity with low energy consumption
  • 2018
  • Ingår i: RSC Advances. - : Royal Society of Chemistry. - 2046-2069. ; 8:47, s. 26549-26553
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • In thiswork, a wide-range operating synaptic device based on organic ferroelectricity has been demonstrated. The device possesses a simple two-terminal structure by using a ferroelectric phase-separated polymer blend as the active layer and gold/indium tin oxide (ITO) as the top/bottom electrodes, and exhibits a distinctive history-dependent resistive switching behavior at room temperature. And the device with low energy consumption (similar to 50 fJ mu m(-2) per synaptic event) can provide a reliable synaptic function of potentiation, depression and the complex memory behavior simulation of differential responses to diverse stimulations. In addition, using simulations, the accuracy of 32 x 32 pixel image recognition is improved from 76.21% to 85.06% in the classical model Cifar-10 with 1024 levels of the device, which is an important step towards the higher performance goal in image recognition based on memristive neuromorphic networks.

  • Boride-derived oxygen-evolution catalysts
  • 2021
  • Ingår i: Nature Communications. - : Springer Nature. - 2041-1723. ; 12
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Metal borides/borates have been considered promising as oxygen evolution reaction catalysts; however, to date, there is a dearth of evidence of long-term stability at practical current densities. Here we report a phase composition modulation approach to fabricate effective borides/borates-based catalysts. We find that metal borides in-situ formed metal borates are responsible for their high activity. This knowledge prompts us to synthesize NiFe-Boride, and to use it as a templating precursor to form an active NiFe-Borate catalyst. This boride-derived oxide catalyzes oxygen evolution with an overpotential of 167 mV at 10 mA/cm2 in 1 M KOH electrolyte and requires a record-low overpotential of 460 mV to maintain water splitting performance for over 400 h at current density of 1 A/cm2. We couple the catalyst with CO reduction in an alkaline membrane electrode assembly electrolyser, reporting stable C2H4 electrosynthesis at current density 200 mA/cm2 for over 80 h.

  • An Eigenbackground Subtraction Method using Recursive Error Compensation
  • 2006
  • Ingår i: to appear in "Advances in Multimedia Information Processing - PCM 2006", LNCS (Springer) Vol. 4261, 2006. ; 4261
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Eigenbackground subtraction is a common method for movingobject detection. The method uses the difference between input image and the reconstructed background image to detect foreground objects based on eigenvalue decomposition. In the method, foreground regions are represented in the reconstructed image using eigenbackground. This results in errors that are spread out over the entire reconstructed reference image. This will also result in degradation of quality of reconstructed background leading to inaccurate moving object detection. In order to compensate these regions, an efficient recursive error compensation method is proposed. The experimental results show that a better approximation of the background is constructed by the proposed method and more accurate foreground objects can be detected based on the reconstructed background.

  • Recursive Error-Compensated Dynamic Eigenbackground Learning and Adptive Background Subtraction in Video
  • 2008
  • Ingår i: Optical Engineering. - : SPIE-Intl Soc Optical Eng. - 1560-2303 .- 0091-3286. ; 47:5, s. 11 pages (article No. 057001)-
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We address the problem of foreground object detection through background subtraction. Although eigenbackground models are successful in many computer vision applications, background subtraction methods based on a conventional eigenbackground method may suffer from high false-alarm rates in the foreground detection due to possible absorption of foreground changes into the eigenbackgroundmodel. This paper introduces an improved eigenbackground modeling method for videos by recursively applying an error compensation process to reduce the influence of foreground moving objects on the eigenbackground model. An adaptive threshold method is also introduced for background subtraction, where the threshold is determined by combininga fixed global threshold and a variable local threshold. A fast algorithm is then given as an approximation to the proposed method by imposing and exploiting a constraint on motion consistency, leading to about 50% reduction in computations. Experiments have been performed on a rangeof videos with satisfactory results. Performance is evaluated using an objective criterion. Comparisons are made with two existing methods.

  • Low-loss light transmission in a rectangular-shaped hybrid metal trench at 1550 nm
  • 2013
  • Ingår i: Optics Express. - 1094-4087. ; 21:14, s. 17053-17059
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • A hybrid plasmonic waveguide consisting of a high-index dielectric core embedded inside a rectangular-shaped metallic trench is proposed and its guiding properties are investigated at the wavelength of 1550 nm. Numerical simulations based on the finite element method have demonstrated that the introduced dielectric core could greatly reduce the modal loss of the metal trench while maintaining strong confinement of light. The effects of dielectric core size, material of the cladding and the dielectric core on the modal properties have been systematically investigated. The proposed hybrid plasmonic structure can be realized employing fabrication techniques of the traditional metal trench waveguides and could be leveraged as important elements for highly-integrated photonic circuits. • A free-standing humidity sensor with high sensing reliability for environmental and wearable detection
  • 2022
  • Ingår i: Nano Energy. - : Elsevier BV. - 2211-2855 .- 2211-3282. ; 103, s. 107780-107780
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Humidity measurement has been of extreme importance in both conventional environment monitoring and emerging digital health management. State-of-the-art flexible humidity sensors with combined structures, however, lack sensing reliability when they subject to high humidity with condensation and/or liquid water invasion. Here, we report a free-standing humidity sensor by creating a stable open porous graphite structure and controlling the number of oxygen-related groups at the molecular level. The sensor indicates high sensing reliability against water liquid wetting and machine washing as well as many mechanical deformations. We demonstrate the sensor has wide potential applications in challenge environmental monitoring and wearable body area sensing networks. Particularly, the concept of the humidity sensing strategy is applicative to not only cellulose-based materials such as cotton and linen, but also protein-based materials such as silk, paving a new route for producing high-performance and cost-effective humidity sensors.

  • Quantifying Degradation Parameters of Single-Crystalline Ni-Rich Cathodes in Lithium-Ion Batteries
  • 2023
  • Ingår i: Angewandte Chemie - International Edition. - 1433-7851 .- 1521-3773. ; 62:32
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Single-crystal LiNixCoyMnzO2 (SC-NCM, x+y+z=1) cathodes are renowned for their high structural stability and reduced accumulation of adverse side products during long-term cycling. While advances have been made using SC-NCM cathode materials, careful studies of cathode degradation mechanisms are scarce. Herein, we employed quasi single-crystalline LiNi0.65Co0.15Mn0.20O2 (SC-NCM65) to test the relationship between cycling performance and material degradation for different charge cutoff potentials. The Li/SC-NCM65 cells showed >77 % capacity retention below 4.6 V vs. Li+/Li after 400 cycles and revealed a significant decay to 56 % for 4.7 V cutoff. We demonstrate that the SC-NCM65 degradation is due to accumulation of rock-salt (NiO) species at the particle surface rather than intragranular cracking or side reactions with the electrolyte. The NiO-type layer formation is also responsible for the strongly increased impedance and transition-metal dissolution. Notably, the capacity loss is found to have a linear relationship with the thickness of the rock-salt surface layer. Density functional theory and COMSOL Multiphysics modeling analysis further indicate that the charge-transfer kinetics is decisive, as the lower lithium diffusivity of the NiO phase hinders charge transport from the surface to the bulk.

  • Human hippocampal connectivity is stronger in olfaction than other sensory systems
  • 2021
  • Ingår i: Progress in Neurobiology. - : Elsevier BV. - 0301-0082 .- 1873-5118. ; 201
  • Forskningsöversikt (refereegranskat)abstract
    • During mammalian evolution, primate neocortex expanded, shifting hippocampal functional networks away from primary sensory cortices, towards association cortices. Reflecting this rerouting, human resting hippocampal functional networks preferentially include higher association cortices, while those in rodents retained primary sensory cortices. Research on human visual, auditory and somatosensory systems shows evidence of this rerouting. Olfaction, however, is unique among sensory systems in its relative structural conservation throughout mammalian evolution, and it is unknown whether human primary olfactory cortex was subject to the same rerouting. We combined functional neuroimaging and intracranial electrophysiology to directly compare hippocampal functional networks across human sensory systems. We show that human primary olfactory cortex—including the anterior olfactory nucleus, olfactory tubercle and piriform cortex—has stronger functional connectivity with hippocampal networks at rest, compared to other sensory systems. This suggests that unlike other sensory systems, olfactory-hippocampal connectivity may have been retained in mammalian evolution. We further show that olfactory-hippocampal connectivity oscillates with nasal breathing. Our findings suggest olfaction might provide insight into how memory and cognition depend on hippocampal interactions.
