  • High Performance and Stable All-Inorganic Metal Halide Perovskite-Based Photodetectors for Optical Communication Applications
  • 2018
  • Ingår i: Advanced Materials. - : WILEY-V C H VERLAG GMBH. - 0935-9648 .- 1521-4095. ; 30:38
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Photodetectors are critical parts of an optical communication system for achieving efficient photoelectronic conversion of signals, and the response speed directly determines the bandwidth of the whole system. Metal halide perovskites, an emerging class of low-cost solution-processed semiconductors, exhibiting strong optical absorption, low trap states, and high carrier mobility, are widely investigated in photodetection applications. Herein, through optimizing the device engineering and film quality, high-performance photodetectors based on all-inorganic cesium lead halide perovskite (CsPbIxBr3-x), which simultaneously possess high sensitivity and fast response, are demonstrated. The optimized devices processed from CsPbIBr2 perovskite show a practically measured detectable limit of about 21.5 pW cm(-2) and a fast response time of 20 ns, which are both among the highest reported device performance of perovskite-based photodetectors. Moreover, the photodetectors exhibit outstanding long-term environmental stability, with negligible degradation of the photoresponse property after 2000 h under ambient conditions. In addition, the resulting perovskite photodetector is successfully integrated into an optical communication system and its applications as an optical signal receiver on transmitting text and audio signals is demonstrated. The results suggest that all-inorganic metal halide perovskite-based photodetectors have great application potential for optical communication.

  • miR-124 inhibits cell proliferation in breast cancer through downregulation of CDK4
  • 2015
  • Ingår i: Tumor Biology. - : Springer Science and Business Media LLC. - 1423-0380 .- 1010-4283. ; 36:8, s. 5987-5997
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Studies have shown that microRNAs (miRNAs) are involved in the malignant progression of human cancer. However, little is known about the potential role of miRNAs in breast carcinogenesis. miR-124 expression in breast cancer tissue was measured by quantitative real-time PCR (qRT-PCR). Target prediction algorithms and luciferase reporter gene assays were used to investigate the target of miR-124. Breast cancer cells growth was regulated by overexpression or knockdown miR-124. At the end of the study, tumor-bearing mice were tested to confirm the function of miR-124 in breast cancer. In this study, we demonstrated that the expression of miR-124 was significantly downregulated in breast cancer tissues compared with matched adjacent non-neoplastic tissues. We identified and confirmed that cyclin-dependent kinase 4 (CDK4) was a direct target of miR-124. Overexpression of miR-124 suppressed CDK4 protein expression and attenuated cell viability, proliferation, and cell cycle progression in MCF-7 and MDA-MB-435S breast cancer cells in vitro. Overexpression of CDK4 partially rescued the inhibitory effect of miR-124 in the breast cancer cells. Moreover, we found that miR-124 overexpression effectively repressed tumor growth in xenograft animal experiments. Our results demonstrate that miR-124 functions as a growth-suppressive miRNA and plays an important role in inhibiting tumorigenesis by targeting CDK4.

  • Impact of Amine Additives on Perovskite Precursor Aging : A Case Study of Light-Emitting Diodes
  • 2021
  • Ingår i: The Journal of Physical Chemistry Letters. - : American Chemical Society (ACS). - 1948-7185. ; 12:25, s. 5836-5843
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Amines are widely employed as additives for improving the performance of metal halide perovskite optoelectronic devices. However, amines are well-known for their high chemical reactivity, the impact of which has yet to receive enough attention from the perovskite light-emitting diode community. Here, by investigating an unusual positive aging effect of CH3NH3I/CsI/PbI2 precursor solutions as an example, we reveal that amines gradually undergo N-formylation in perovskite precursors over time. This reaction is initialized by hydrolysis of dimethylformamide in the acidic chemical environment. Further investigations suggest that the reaction products collectively impact perovskite crystallization and eventually lead to significantly enhanced external quantum efficiency values, increasing from similar to 2% for fresh solutions to greater than or similar to 12% for aged ones. While this case study provides a positive aging effect, a negative aging effect is possible in other perovksite systems. Our findings pave the way for more reliable and reproducible device fabrication and call for further attention to underlying chemical reactions within the perovskite inks once amine additives are included.

  • Bidirectional optical signal transmission between two identical devices using perovskite diodes
  • 2020
  • Ingår i: NATURE ELECTRONICS. - : NATURE PUBLISHING GROUP. - 2520-1131. ; 3:3, s. 156-164
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • A solution-processed perovskite diode that functions as both optical transmitter and receiver can be used to build a monolithic pulse sensor and a bidirectional optical communication system. The integration of optical signal generation and reception into one device-thus allowing a bidirectional optical signal transmission between two identical devices-is of value in the development of miniaturized and integrated optoelectronic devices. However, conventional solution-processable semiconductors have intrinsic material and design limitations that prevent them from being used to create such devices with a high performance. Here we report an efficient solution-processed perovskite diode that is capable of working in both emission and detection modes. The device can be switched between modes by changing the bias direction, and it exhibits light emission with an external quantum efficiency of over 21% and a light detection limit on a subpicowatt scale. The operation speed for both functions can reach tens of megahertz. Benefiting from the small Stokes shift of perovskites, our diodes exhibit a high specific detectivity (more than 2 x 10(12) Jones) at its peak emission (~804 nm), which allows an optical signal exchange between two identical diodes. To illustrate the potential of the dual-functional diode, we show that it can be used to create a monolithic pulse sensor and a bidirectional optical communication system.

  • No evidence for functional litter diversity effects on litter decomposition, fungal decomposers and nutrient immobilization
  • Annan publikation (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • Biodiversity and ecosystem functioning theory suggests that litter mixtures composed of dissimilar leaf species can enhance decomposition due to species trait complementarity. Here we create a continuous gradient of litter chemistry trait variability within species mixtures to assess effects of litter dissimilarity on three related processes in a natural stream: litter decomposition, fungal biomass accrual in the litter, and nitrogen and phosphorus immobilization. Litter from a pool of eight leaf species was analyzed for chemistry traits affecting decomposition (lignin, nitrogen, and phosphorus) and assembled in all of the 28 possible two-species combinations. Litter dissimilarity was characterized in terms of a range of functional diversity measures, using Euclidean and Gower distances and dendrogram-based indices. Despite favorable experimental conditions for litter dissimilarity effects to arise, we found no significant relationships between decomposition rate of individual leaf species and litter functional dissimilarity, irrespective of whether decomposition was mediated by microbes alone or by both microbes and litter-consuming invertebrates. Likewise, no effects of functional dissimilarity emerged on either fungal biomass accrual or changes during decomposition of nitrogen or phosphorus concentrations in individual leaf species. These results provide support for the contention that litter diversity effects on decomposition in streams are less pronounced than in forest environments, and in particular are less common than effects on terrestrial primary productivity. Key to understanding these discrepancies may be the constant supply of nutrients provided by the flowing water in streams, exacerbated by very large-scale cultural nutrient enrichment of surface waters in many parts of the world.

  • Genotypic and Phenotypic Analyses of Two "Isogenic" Strains of the Human Fungal Pathogen Cryptococcus neoformans var. neoformans
  • 2019
  • Ingår i: Mycopathologia. - : SPRINGER. - 0301-486X .- 1573-0832. ; 184:2, s. 195-212
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The Cryptococcus neoformans species complex is a model organism for fungal studies. Many studies have used two strains, JEC20 and JEC21, and their derivatives. These two strains were obtained through 10 rounds of backcrosses and have been assumed near identical except at the mating-type locus. Here we obtained and compared the JEC20 genome sequence with the published JEC21 genome. Our comparison revealed 5322 single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) with the majority (N=3816, 71.7%) located in three genomic regions, including the previously noted mating-type region. The remaining 1506 SNPs (28.3%) were distributed throughout all 14 chromosomes, predominantly at chromosomal ends. To study the potential effects of these three SNP-rich regions on phenotypes, 24 progenies from the JEC20xJEC21 cross representing eight recombinant genotypes were analyzed for their mating ability, melanin production, capsule formation, and growths at 30 degrees C and 40 degrees C. Significant phenotypic variations were found among the progeny. However, the observed phenotypic variations could not be explained by the three SNP-rich regions. Further genome sequencing of our JEC21 and the 24 progenies revealed only six segregating SNPs outside of the three SNP-rich regions between JEC20 and JEC21, a result indicating that the 1500 SNPs identified in the published JEC21 genome might be caused by sequencing errors and/or strain mixing. However, the six SNPs and the three SNP-rich regions could not explain the observed phenotypic variations. Our analyses suggest that spontaneous mutations accumulated under laboratory conditions could have significant effects on phenotypes and on our interpretations of experimental results.

  • Spatial variation in the effects of air pollution on cardiovascular mortality in Beijing, China
  • 2019
  • Ingår i: Environmental Science and Pollution Research. - : Springer. - 0944-1344 .- 1614-7499.
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Due to lack of data from multiple air quality monitoring stations, studies about spatial association between concentrations of ambient pollutants and mortality in China are rare. To investigate the spatial variation of association between concentrations of particulate matter less than 10 μm in aerodynamic diameter (PM10) and nitrogen dioxide (NO2) and cardiovascular mortality in Beijing, China, we collected data including daily deaths, concentrations of PM10 and NO2, and meteorological factors from January 1, 2009, to December 31, 2010, in all 16 districts of Beijing. Generalized additive model (GAM) and generalized additive mixed model (GAMM) were used to examine the citywide and district-specific effects of PM10 and NO2 on cardiovascular mortality. The citywide effect derived from GAMM was lower than that derived from GAM and the strongest effects were identified for 2-day moving average lag 0–1. For every 10 μg/m3 increases in concentrations of PM10 and NO2, the corresponding daily cardiovascular mortality increases in 0.31% (95%CI 0.15%, 0.46%) and 1.63% (95%CI 1.11%, 2.13%), respectively. The death risk associated with air pollutants varied across different geographic districts in Beijing. We found spatially varied adverse effects of air pollution on cardiovascular deaths in Beijing. But there was insufficient evidence to show the significant spatial heterogeneity in mortality effects of PM10 and NO2 in this study.

    • Owing to lack of data from multiple air quality monitoring stations, studies about spatial association between concentrations of ambient pollutants and mortality in China are rare. To investigate the spatial variation of association between concentrations of particulate matter less than 10 mu m in aerodynamic diameter (PM10), nitrogen dioxide (NO2) and carbon monoxide (CO) and cardiovascular mortality in Beijing, China, we collected data including daily deaths, concentrations of PM10, NO2 and CO, and meteorological factors from 1 January 2009 to 31 December 2010 in all 16 districts of Beijing. Generalized additive model (GAM) and generalized additive mixed model (GAMM) were used to examine the citywide and district-specific effects of PM10, NO2 and CO on cardiovascular mortality. The citywide effect derived from GAMM was lower than that derived from GAM, and the strongest effects were identified for 2-day moving average lag 0-1. The interquartile increases in concentrations of PM10, NO2 and CO were associated with 2.46 (95% confidence interval (CI), 1.22-3.72), 4.11 (95% CI, 2.82-5.42) and 2.23 (95% CI, 1.14-3.33) percentage increases in daily cardiovascular mortality by GAMM, respectively. The relative risk of each district compared with reference district was generally statistically significant. The death risk associated with air pollutants varies across different geographic districts in Beijing. The data indicate that the risk is high in suburban areas and rural counties. We found significant and spatially varied adverse effects of air pollution on cardiovascular deaths across the rural and urban areas in Beijing.

  • Acute Effects of Nitrogen Dioxide on Cardiovascular Mortality in Beijing : An Exploration of Spatial Heterogeneity and the District-specific Predictors
  • 2016
  • Ingår i: Scientific Reports. - London, United Kingdom : Nature Publishing Group. - 2045-2322. ; 6:2
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The exploration of spatial variation and predictors of the effects of nitrogen dioxide (NO2) on fatal health outcomes is still sparse. In a multilevel case-crossover study in Beijing, China, we used mixed Cox proportional hazard model to examine the citywide effects and conditional logistic regression to evaluate the district-specific effects of NO2 on cardiovascular mortality. District-specific predictors that could be related to the spatial pattern of NO2 effects were examined by robust regression models. We found that a 10 μg/m(3) increase in daily mean NO2 concentration was associated with a 1.89% [95% confidence interval (CI): 1.33-2.45%], 2.07% (95% CI: 1.23-2.91%) and 1.95% (95% CI: 1.16-2.72%) increase in daily total cardiovascular (lag03), cerebrovascular (lag03) and ischemic heart disease (lag02) mortality, respectively. For spatial variation of NO2 effects across 16 districts, significant effects were only observed in 5, 4 and 2 districts for the above three outcomes, respectively. Generally, NO2 was likely having greater adverse effects on districts with larger population, higher consumption of coal and more civilian vehicles. Our results suggested independent and spatially varied effects of NO2 on total and subcategory cardiovascular mortalities. The identification of districts with higher risk can provide important insights for reducing NO2 related health hazards.

  • Ambient Fine Particulate Matter Exposure and Risk of Cardiovascular Mortality : Adjustment of the Meteorological Factors
  • 2016
  • Ingår i: International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health. - Basel : MDPI AG. - 1661-7827 .- 1660-4601. ; 13:11
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Few studies have explicitly explored the impacts of the extensive adjustment (with a lag period of more than one week) of temperature and humidity on the association between ambient fine particulate matter (PM2.5) and cardiovascular mortality. In a time stratified case-crossover study, we used a distributed lag nonlinear model to assess the impacts of extensive adjustments of temperature and humidity for longer lag periods (for 7, 14, 21, 28 and 40 days) on effects of PM2.5 on total cardiovascular mortality and mortality of cerebrovascular and ischemic heart disease and corresponding exposure-response relationships in Beijing, China, between 2008 and 2011. Compared with results only controlled for temperature and humidity for 2 days, the estimated effects of PM2.5 were smaller and magnitudes of exposure-response curves were decreased when longer lag periods of temperature and relative humidity were included for adjustments, but these changes varied across subpopulation, with marked decreases occurring in males and the elderly who are more susceptible to PM2.5-related mortalities. Our findings suggest that the adjustment of meteorological factors using lag periods shorter than one week may lead to overestimated effects of PM2.5. The associations of PM2.5 with cardiovascular mortality in susceptible populations were more sensitive to further adjustments for temperature and relative humidity.

  • BCAT1 decreases the sensitivity of cancer cells to cisplatin by regulating mTOR-mediated autophagy via branched-chain amino acid metabolism
  • 2021
  • Ingår i: Cell Death and Disease. - : Springer Science and Business Media LLC. - 2041-4889. ; 12:2
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Cisplatin is one of the most effective chemotherapy drugs and is widely used in the treatment of cancer, including hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) and cervical cancer, but its therapeutic benefit is limited by the development of resistance. Our previous studies demonstrated that BCAT1 promoted cell proliferation and decreased cisplatin sensitivity in HCC cells. However, the exact role and mechanism of how BCAT1 is involved in cisplatin cytotoxicity remain undefined. In this study, we revealed that cisplatin triggered autophagy in cancer cells, with an increase in BCAT1 expression. The cisplatin-induced up-regulation of BCAT1 decreased the cisplatin sensitivity by regulating autophagy through the mTOR signaling pathway. In addition, branched-chain amino acids or leucine treatment inhibited cisplatin- or BCAT1-mediated autophagy and increased cisplatin sensitivity by activating mTOR signaling in cancer cells. Moreover, inhibition of autophagy by chloroquine increased cisplatin sensitivity in vivo. Also, the knockdown of BCAT1 or the administration of leucine activated mTOR signaling, inhibited autophagy, and increased cisplatin sensitivity in cancer cells in vivo. These findings demonstrate a new mechanism, revealing that BCAT1 decreases cisplatin sensitivity in cancer cells by inducing mTOR-mediated autophagy via branched-chain amino acid leucine metabolism, providing an attractive pharmacological target to improve the effectiveness of chemotherapy.

    • The silver nanosheets (AgNSs) prepared via normal silver mirror reaction were used to improve the performance of organic solar cells. AgNSs with a size of about 100 nm in width and 10 nm in thickness formed a 3-D network on an indium tin oxide (ITO) surface. Organic solar cells with a structure of ITO/AgNSs/poly(3,4-ethylene dioxythiophene) poly(styrenesulfonate) (PEDOT:PSS)/poly(3-hexylthiophene) and [6,6]-phenyl C-61 butyric acid methyl ester (P3HT:PC61BM)/LiF/Al exhibited an open circuit voltage (V-oc) of 0.60 +/- 0.01 V, short circuit current density (J(sc)) of 11.16 +/- 0.08 mA/cm(2), a fill factor (FF) of 53.69 +/- 0.92%, and power conversion efficiency (PCE) of 3.60 +/- 0.06%. The PCEs of organic solar cells with 3-D AgNSs layers were 1.29 times that of the control device without 3-D AgNSs layer. We attributed the improvement of the efficiency to localized surface plasmon resonance (LSPR) induced by the 3-D network of AgNSs, which enhanced the light harvest of active layers, increased the probability of exciton generation and dissociation.

    • A novel solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC) incorporating the semiconductor with the ionic conductor to replace the traditional electrolyte layer with improved performance has been recently reported. In the present work, we found that the redox stable electrode material La0.7Sr0.3Cr0.5Fe0.5O3-delta(LSCrF) can be considered as a good candidate for such configuration, electrolyte layer-free fuel cells (EFFCs), due to its high ionic and electronic conductivities, excellent catalytic activity and good chemical stability. EFFCs based on the composite of perovskite oxide LSCrF and ionic conductor Ce0.8Sm0.2O2-delta (SDC) offered promising performances, i.e., 1059 mW cm(-2) at 550 degrees C without any electronic short circuiting problem. It even exhibited a highly promising result of 553 mW cm(-2) at 470 degrees C in further low-temperature operation. These high performances can be attributed to the improved conductivity, more triple-phase boundaries (TPB) and accelerated oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) of LSCrF-SDC composite. The influence of the weight ratio between LSCrF and SDC on the EFFC electrochemical performance was investigated. This new discovery indicates a great potential for exploring multifunctional perovskites for the new SOFC technologies.

    • Dendritic cells (DCs) are indispensable for defense against pathogens but may also contribute to immunopathology. Activation of DCs upon the sensing of pathogens by Toll-like receptors (TLRs) is largely mediated by pattern recognition receptor/nuclear factor-kappa B (NF-kappa B) signaling and depends on the appropriate ubiquitination of the respective signaling molecules. However, the ubiquitinating and deubiquitinating enzymes involved and their interactions are only incompletely understood. Here, we reveal that the deubiquitinase OTU domain, ubiquitin aldehyde binding 1 (OTUB1) is upregulated in DCs upon murine Toxoplasmagondii infection and lipopolysaccharide challenge. Stimulation of DCs with the TLR11/12 ligand T. gondii profilin and the TLR4 ligand lipopolysaccharide induced an increase in NF-kappa B activation in OTUB1-competent cells, resulting in elevated interleukin-6 (IL-6), IL-12, and tumor necrosis factor (TNF) production, which was also observed upon the specific stimulation of TLR2, TLR3, TLR7, and TLR9. Mechanistically, OTUB1 promoted NF-kappa B activity in DCs by K48-linked deubiquitination and stabilization of the E2-conjugating enzyme UBC13, resulting in increased K63-linked ubiquitination of IRAK1 (IL-1 receptor-associated kinase 1) and TRAF6 (TNF receptor-associated factor 6). Consequently, DC-specific deletion of OTUB1 impaired the production of cytokines, in particular IL-12, by DCs over the first 2 days of T. gondii infection, resulting in the diminished production of protective interferon-gamma (IFN-gamma) by natural killer cells, impaired control of parasite replication, and, finally, death from chronic T.encephalitis, all of which could be prevented by low-dose IL-12 treatment in the first 3 days of infection. In contrast, impaired OTUB1-deficient DC activation and cytokine production by OTUB1-deficient DCs protected mice from lipopolysaccharide-induced immunopathology. Collectively, these findings identify OTUB1 as a potent novel regulator of DCs during infectious and inflammatory diseases.

    • Reactive oxygen species (ROS) are implicated in epithelial cell-state transition and deposition of extracellular matrix upon airway injury. Of the many cellular targets of ROS, oxidative DNA modification is a major driving signal. However, the role of oxidative DNA damage in modulation profibrotic processes has not been fully delineated. Herein, we report that oxidative DNA base lesions, 8-oxoG, complexed with 8-oxoguanine DNA glycosylase 1 (OGG1) functions as a pioneer factor, contributing to transcriptional reprogramming within airway epithelial cells. We show that TGFβ1-induced ROS increased 8-oxoG levels in open chromatin, dynamically reconfigure the chromatin state. OGG1 complexed with 8-oxoG recruits transcription factors, including phosphorylated SMAD3, to pro-fibrotic gene promoters thereby facilitating gene activation. Moreover, 8-oxoG levels are elevated in lungs of mice subjected to TGFβ1-induced injury. Pharmacologic targeting of OGG1 with the selective small molecule inhibitor of 8-oxoG binding, TH5487, abrogates fibrotic gene expression and remodeling in this model. Collectively, our study implicates that 8-oxoG substrate-specific binding by OGG1 is a central modulator of transcriptional regulation in response to tissue repair.

    • ZnO is a promising material used as the electron transport layer in the inverted organic solar cells (IOSCs). However, the electrical or photoelectric properties of ZnO nanoparticles are governed by the surface states of the nanoparticles. Here, we demonstrate that the large number of hydroxyl (-OH) existed on the ZnO nanoparticles films have a vast impact on the performance of IOSCs with the structure of ITO/ZnO/poly(3-hexylthiophene) (P3HT):[6,6]-phenyl C-61 butyric acid methyl ester (PCBM)/MoO3/Ag. The surface hydroxyl groups depredate active layer via elevating photocatalytic activity of the ZnO, hence deteriorate the device performance. Experimental results show that hydroxyl groups can be effectively detached from ZnO film by annealing. Hydroxyl groups detach more with increasing annealing temperature, resulting in less degradation of the active layer. Therefore, the efficiency is significantly improved due to increased photo-current density and decreased series resistance of IOSCs. The best device exhibits a power conversion efficiency of 3.05% after annealing at 150 degrees C.

    • For next-generation Internet-of-Everything applications, for example, artificial-neural-network image sensors, artificial retina, visible light communication, on-chip light interconnection, and flexible devices, etc., high-performance microscale photodetectors are in urgent demands. 2D material (2DM) photodetectors have been researched and demonstrated impressive performances. However, they have not met the demands in filterless narrowband photoresponse, wide linear dynamic range (LDR), ultralow dark current, and large on/off ratio, which are key performances for these applications. 2D Ruddlesden-Popper perovskites (2D-RPPs) are recently highlighted photovoltaic and optoelectronic materials. Embedding ultrathin 2D-RPPs into 2DM photodetectors holds potentials to improve these performances. Herein, a single-crystalline ultrathin (PEA)(2)PbI4 is integrated into a vertical-stacked graphene-(PEA)(2)PbI4-graphene micro photoconductor (V-PEPI-PC). V-PEPI-PC exhibits narrowband photoresponses at 517 nm with a full-width-at-half-maximum of 15 nm and a wide LDR of 122 dB. Due to the multiple quantum wells in (PEA)(2)PbI4, V-PEPI-PC demonstrates an ultralow dark current of 1.1 x 10(-14) A (44 pA mm(-2)), a high specific detectivity of 1.2 x 10(13) Jones, and a high on/off ratio of 1.6 x 10(6). Owing to the short vertical channel, V-PEPI-PC shows a fast response rise time of 486 mu s. Therefore, the vertical-stacked photodetectors based on hybrid 2D-RPPs and 2DMs may have great potentials in future optoelectronics.

    • Lowering the operating temperature of the solid oxide fuel cells (SOFCs) is one of the world R&D tendencies. Exploring novel electrolytes possessing high ionic conductivity at low temperature becomes extremely important with the increasing demands of the energy conversion technologies. In this work, perovskite La0.1SrxCa0.9-xMnO3-δ (LSCM) materials were synthesized and composited with the ionic conductor Sm0.2Ce0.8O1.9 (SDC). The LSCM-SDC composite was sandwiched between two nickel foams coated with semiconductorNi0.8Co0.15Al0.05LiO2- δ (NCAL) to form the fuel cell device. The strontium content in theLSCM and the ratios of LSCM to SDC in the LSCM-SDC composite have significant effects on the electrical properties and fuel cell performances. The best performance has been achieved from LSCM-SDC composite with a weight ratio of 2:3. The fuel cells showed OCV over 1.0 V and excellent maximum output power density of 800 mW/cm2 at 550 ºC. Device processes and ionic transport processes were also discussed.

  • Rational molecular passivation for high-performance perovskite light-emitting diodes
  • 2019
  • Ingår i: Nature Photonics. - : Springer Nature Publishing AG. - 1749-4885 .- 1749-4893. ; 13:6, s. 418-424
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • A major efficiency limit for solution-processed perovskite optoelectronic devices, for example light-emitting diodes, is trap-mediated non-radiative losses. Defect passivation using organic molecules has been identified as an attractive approach to tackle this issue. However, implementation of this approach has been hindered by a lack of deep understanding of how the molecular structures influence the effectiveness of passivation. We show that the so far largely ignored hydrogen bonds play a critical role in affecting the passivation. By weakening the hydrogen bonding between the passivating functional moieties and the organic cation featuring in the perovskite, we significantly enhance the interaction with defect sites and minimize non-radiative recombination losses. Consequently, we achieve exceptionally high-performance near-infrared perovskite light-emitting diodes with a record external quantum efficiency of 21.6%. In addition, our passivated perovskite light-emitting diodes maintain a high external quantum efficiency of 20.1% and a wall-plug efficiency of 11.0% at a high current density of 200 mA cm−2, making them more attractive than the most efficient organic and quantum-dot light-emitting diodes at high excitations.

  • Super-enhancers conserved within placental mammals maintain stem cell pluripotency
  • 2022
  • Ingår i: Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences of the United States of America. - : Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences (PNAS). - 0027-8424 .- 1091-6490. ; 119:40
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Despite pluripotent stem cells sharing key transcription factors, their maintenance involves distinct genetic inputs. Emerging evidence suggests that super-enhancers (SEs) can function as master regulatory hubs to control cell identity and pluripotency in humans and mice. However, whether pluripotency-associated SEs share an evolutionary origin in mammals remains elusive. Here, we performed comprehensive comparative epigenomic and transcription factor binding analyses among pigs, humans, and mice to identify pluripotency-associated SEs. Like typical enhancers, SEs displayed rapid evolu-tion in mammals. We showed that BRD4 is an essential and conserved activator for mammalian pluripotency-associated SEs. Comparative motif enrichment analysis revealed 30 shared transcription factor binding motifs among the three species. The majority of transcriptional factors that bind to identified motifs are known regulators associated with pluripotency. Further, we discovered three pluripotency-associated SEs (SE-SOX2, SE-PIM1, and SE-FGFR1) that displayed remarkable conservation in pla-cental mammals and were sufficient to drive reporter gene expression in a pluripotency-dependent manner. Disruption of these conserved SEs through the CRISPR-Cas9 approach severely impaired stem cell pluripotency. Our study provides insights into the understanding of conserved regulatory mechanisms underlying the maintenance of plu-ripotency as well as species-specific modulation of the pluripotency-associated regula-tory networks in mammals.

  • Gradient Heating Epitaxial Growth Gives Well Lattice-Matched Mo2C-Mo2N Heterointerfaces that Boost Both Electrocatalytic Hydrogen Evolution and Water Vapor Splitting
  • 2022
  • Ingår i: Angewandte Chemie International Edition. - : Wiley-Blackwell. - 1433-7851 .- 1521-3773. ; 61:47
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • An optimized approach to producing lattice-matched heterointerfaces for electrocatalytic hydrogen evolution has not yet been reported. Herein, we present the synthesis of lattice-matched Mo2C-Mo2N heterostructures using a gradient heating epitaxial growth method. The well lattice-matched heterointerface of Mo2C-Mo2N generates near-zero hydrogen-adsorption free energy and facilitates water dissociation in acid and alkaline media. The lattice-matched Mo2C-Mo2N heterostructures have low overpotentials of 73 mV and 80 mV at 10 mA cm(-2) in acid and alkaline solutions, respectively, comparable to commercial Pt/C. A novel photothermal-electrocatalytic water vapor splitting device using the lattice-matched Mo2C-Mo2N heterostructure as a hydrogen evolution electrocatalyst displays a competitive cell voltage for electrocatalytic water splitting.
