  • Enhancing electroreduction activity and selectivity of N2-to-NH3 through proton-feeding adjustments in Ag@AgP2@Ni-CoP@C core-shell nanowires
  • 2023
  • Ingår i: Applied Catalysis B. - : ELSEVIER. - 0926-3373 .- 1873-3883. ; 337
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The synthesis of NH3 via electrochemical N2 fixation at ambient conditions has been proposed as a promising alternative to the traditional Haber-Bosch process. However, the development of highly efficient and selective electrocatalysts remains a challenge. In this study, uniform Ag@AgP2 @Ni-CoP@C core-shell nanowires were synthesized using a template-engaged strategy. The merging of conductive Ag core with active AgP2 and porous carbon-coated Ni-doped CoP shells favors the mass and electron transfers, effectively lowering the activation energy toward the reduction of N2 to NH3. Density functional theory (DFT) calculations further indicates that the sandwiched AgP2 layer plays crucial roles in promoting electrocatalytic kinetics and suppressing the competitive hydrogen evolution reactions. Benefiting from these advantages, the titled catalyst achieved a high NH3 yield of 16.84 & mu;g h-1 mg-1 cat. at-0.4 V (vs. reversible hydrogen electrode, RHE) and a high Faradaic efficiency of 21.7 % at-0.3 V vs. RHE, as well as high electrochemical and structure stability.

  • P-doped Co3S4/NiS2 heterostructures embedded in N-doped carbon nanoboxes: Synergistical electronic structure regulation for overall water splitting
  • 2023
  • Ingår i: Journal of Colloid and Interface Science. - : ACADEMIC PRESS INC ELSEVIER SCIENCE. - 0021-9797 .- 1095-7103. ; 652, s. 369-379
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Water splitting using transition metal sulfides as electrocatalysts has gained considerable attention in the field of renewable energy. However, their electrocatalytic activity is often hindered by unfavorable free energies of adsorbed hydrogen and oxygen-containing intermediates. Herein, phosphorus (P)-doped Co3S4/NiS2 hetero-structures embedded in N-doped carbon nanoboxes were rationally synthesized via a pyrolysis-sulfidation-phosphorization strategy. The hollow structure of the carbon matrix and the nanoparticles contained within it not only result in a high specific surface area, but also protects them from corrosion and acts as a conductive pathway for efficient electron transfer. Density functional theory (DFT) calculations indicate that the intro-duction of P dopants improves the conductivity of NiS2 and Co3S4, promotes the charge transfer process, and creates new electrocatalytic sites. Additionally, the NiS2-Co3S4 heterojunctions can enhance the adsorption efficiency of hydrogen intermediates (H*) and lower the energy barrier of water splitting via a synergistic effect with P-doping. These characteristics collectively enable the titled catalyst to exhibit excellent electrocatalytic activity for water splitting in alkaline medium, requiring only small overpotentials of 150 and 257 mV to achieve a current density of 10 mA cm-2 for hydrogen and oxygen evolution reactions, respectively. This work sheds light on the design and optimization of efficient electrocatalysts for water splitting, with potential implications for renewable energy production.

  • Identification and characterisation of taste-enhancing peptides from oysters (Crassostrea gigas) via the Maillard reaction
  • 2023
  • Ingår i: Food Chemistry. - : Elsevier. - 0308-8146 .- 1873-7072. ; 424
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Oysters, which are flavourful edible marine products, have been utilised to produce Maillard reaction products (MRPs), which contribute to saltiness enhancement. Here, the molecular weight distribution, free amino acids, and taste characteristics of MRPs were analysed, while ultraviolet light was used to observe the Maillard reaction. Both thermal degradation and cross-linking reactions occur during the Maillard reaction. When the Maillard reaction time was 90 min, the saltiness, umami, and richness of the MRPs peaked, however bitterness reached its lowest value. Moreover, at an MRP concentration of 1.5 mg/mL, salts were reduced by 35.71% in a 3 mg/mL sodium chloride solution without reducing saltiness, based on sensory evaluation. Glycation sites of the MRPs, which are crucial for saltiness enhancement and derived from a variety of protein sources, were determined using nano-HPLC-MS/MS analysis. Our study establishes the foundation for preparing salt-enhancing peptides, accelerating the popularisation of oyster-derived flavouring agents.

  • Three novel umami peptides derived from the alcohol extract of the Pacific oyster (Crassostrea gigas) : identification, characterizations and interactions with T1R1/T1R3 taste receptors
  • 2024
  • Ingår i: FOOD SCIENCE AND HUMAN WELLNESS. - : Tsinghua University Press. - 2213-4530. ; 13:1, s. 146-153
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Oyster (Crassostrea gigas), the main ingredient of oyster sauce, has a strong umami taste. In this study, three potential umami peptides, FLNQDEEAR (FR-9), FNKEE (FE-5), and EEFLK (EK-5), were identified and screened from the alcoholic extracts of the oyster using nano-HPLC-MS/MS analysis, iUmami-Scoring Card Method (iUmami-SCM) database and molecular docking (MD). Sensory evaluation and electronic tongue analysis were further used to confirm their tastes. The threshold of the three peptides ranged from 0.38 to 0.55 mg/mL. MD with umami receptors T1R1/T1R3 indicated that the electrostatic interaction and hydrogen bond interaction were the main forces involved. Besides, the Phe592 and Gln853 of T1R3 were the primary docking site for MD and played an important role in umami intensity. Peptides with two Glu residues at the terminus had stronger umami, especially at the C-terminus. These results contribute to the understanding of umami peptides in oysters and the interaction mechanism between umami peptides and umami receptors. & COPY; 2024 Beijing Academy of Food Sciences. • An international laboratory comparison of dissolved organic matter composition by high resolution mass spectrometry : Are we getting the same answer?
  • 2020
  • Ingår i: Limnology and Oceanography. - : Wiley. - 1541-5856. ; 18:6, s. 235-258
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • High-resolution mass spectrometry (HRMS) has become a vital tool for dissolved organic matter (DOM) characterization. The upward trend in HRMS analysis of DOM presents challenges in data comparison and interpretation among laboratories operating instruments with differing performance and user operating conditions. It is therefore essential that the community establishes metric ranges and compositional trends for data comparison with reference samples so that data can be robustly compared among research groups. To this end, four identically prepared DOM samples were each measured by 16 laboratories, using 17 commercially purchased instruments, using positive-ion and negative-ion mode electrospray ionization (ESI) HRMS analyses. The instruments identified similar to 1000 common ions in both negative- and positive-ion modes over a wide range of m/z values and chemical space, as determined by van Krevelen diagrams. Calculated metrics of abundance-weighted average indices (H/C, O/C, aromaticity and m/z) of the commonly detected ions showed that hydrogen saturation and aromaticity were consistent for each reference sample across the instruments, while average mass and oxygenation were more affected by differences in instrument type and settings. In this paper we present 32 metric values for future benchmarking. The metric values were obtained for the four different parameters from four samples in two ionization modes and can be used in future work to evaluate the performance of HRMS instruments.

  • Evaluation of parental education using biomechanical visualization to increase child restraint use in China
  • 2022
  • Ingår i: Accident Analysis and Prevention. - : Elsevier BV. - 0001-4575 .- 1879-2057. ; 169, s. 106633-
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Introduction: Despite demonstrated effectiveness of child restraint system (CRS), its use in China is extremely low due to the lack of national legislation requiring the use of CRS, as well as lack of child passenger safety knowledge among caregivers. Implementing an effective intervention is urgently needed to promote the use of CRS. In this study, we primarily evaluated the effectiveness of biomechanical visualization delivered in the context of CRS education to promote CRS use.& nbsp; Methods: We conducted a cluster randomised controlled trial to test the effects of educational intervention programs on increased use of CRS. Participants included caregivers from 8 pre-schools located in two cities (i.e., Chaozhou and Shantou) in China. Following a baseline survey, 8 pre-schools were randomly assigned into 1 of 4 groups with 2 schools in each group: 1) CRS education-only, 2) CRS education with behavioral skill training, 3) CRS education with biomechanical visualization, and 4) control. The primary outcome was CRS use, and the secondary outcomes included scores of child passenger safety-related knowledge and CRS use-related attitudes. The effect of the intervention was assessed among caregivers at two time points: baseline preintervention and 6 months postintervention.& nbsp; Results: More than 70% caregivers had never used CRS at baseline. No statistically significant between-group differences CRS use were observed at baseline preintervention (34.2%, 25.4%, 29.6% and 21.9%, respectively, P = 0.18). However, compared to the control group, odds of CRS non-use was significantly lower in caregivers assigned to the CRS education with biomechanical visualization (adjusted odd ratio (AOR) = 0.11, 95% confidence interval (CI) = 0.07-0.17), CRS education with behavioral skill training (AOR = 0.15, 95%CI = 0.10-0.24) and CRS education-only (AOR = 0.26, 95%CI = 0.17-0.41) groups, respectively. Statistically significant differences were also observed in the secondary outcomes postintervention across groups. Specifically, the CRS education with biomechanical visualization and CRS education with behavioral skill training groups had higher mean knowledge change scores than the CRS education-only group (3.3 +/- 1.5 vs. 2.9 +/- 2.2, p = 0.035 and 3.2 +/- 1.9 vs. 2.9 +/- 2.2, p = 0.039, respectively). We also observed a significantly higher increase in the attitudes scores in the CRS education with biomechanical visualization group compared with the CRS education-only group (4.7 +/- 2.1 vs. 3.5 +/- 2.8, p = 0.026).& nbsp; Conclusions: This study shows that both biomechanical visualization and behavioral skill training supplements to education improved understanding of CRS knowledge compared to education only, and all three strategies led to increased CRS use. Importantly, CRS education with biomechanical visualization was shown to be more effective than CRS education alone in improving caregiver's knowledge and attitudes. The use of biomechanical visualization may be an effective supplement to traditional education programs.
