- I kapitlet diskuteras beskrivs ett tvärdisciplinärt forskningsprojekt och hur barn kan göras delaktiga och få inflytande i stadsplaneringsprocesser. Barnrättskonventionens artiklar 3 och 12, barns rätt att uttrycka åsikter och bli lyssnade till samt deras rätt till delaktighet i beslut som rör dem själva, fungerar som utgångspunkter. Göteborgs stad arbetar aktivt med att införliva barnperspektivet i det kontinuerliga arbetet, och det återfinns bland annat i policydokument, visioner och riktlinjer. Staden har också utvecklat en modell för barnkonsekvensanalys med intentionen att ”stärka och utveckla barnperspektivet och barns eget perspektiv i planeringen”. Forskningsprojektet ”Barn som medskapare av stadens rum” har haft som syfte att sammanföra barn, skolpersonal, forskare och planerare kring gemensamma frågor om hur barn kan göras delaktiga i stadsplaneringsprocesser och hur det arbetet kan det ingå i skolans ordinarie verksamhet.

- Rapporten summerar följeforskning av det första året av det läsfrämjande projektet "Stärkta bibliotek - Staden där vi läser för våra barn!" Projektet drivs av Kulturförvaltningen i Göteborg och fokuserar folkbibliotekens läsfrämjande arbete mot målgruppen barn och unga och deras familjer. Projektet är en del av Kulturrådets satsning "Stärkta bibliotek" som syftar till att stärka landets biblioteksverksamhet. Följeforskningen följde det läsfrämjande arbetet som genomfördes på tre arenor: på biblioteken, genom uppsökande verksamhet och digitalt. Särskilt uppmärksamhet har ägnats läsfrämjande praktiker och samverkan, fortbildning och utbildning samt praktiker kring bokgåvor. Även jämlikhetsfrågor var viktig för följeforskningen då projektet genomfördes inom ramen för Göteborgs verksamhetsövergripande satsning på mobiliseringen "Staden där vi läser för våra barn".

The Negotiation of Urgency: Economies of Attention in an Italian Emergency Room

- Urgency in a hospital Emergency Room (ER) is not a self-evident state. Urgency is made, by establishing priorities, distributing attention and material resources, and deciding who and what needs to be attended to first – and, simultaneously, who and what has to wait. The process of determining urgency is known as “triage” (from the French verb, trier, “to choose”). This thesis is about the vicissitudes of triage in an Italian ER. Based on one year of ethnographic fieldwork, the thesis explores what happens when urgency is at stake; when it is contested and caught up between different, and frequently conflicting, perspectives. It explores how urgency is determined in practice, and shows how triage always is a vulnerable process of negotiation guided by economies of attention. How is urgency actually shaped in interactions between patients, their families and friends, and the ER staff? The different chapters explore how time in the ER is created through shifting registers of attention, and how attention in the ER is affected by widespread economic and social precarity, and neoliberal national policies of governance. It discusses how triage increasingly is structured by attitudes of mistrust; and also by potential or real outbreaks of violence. Addressing the particular positioning of the ER as a thick space of conjunction between neoliberal state politics and people's increasing need for care and recognition, the thesis aims to contribute to medical anthropology literature by analyzing triage not as a neutral medical way of sorting, but as a practice that actively creates difference. It explores both the limits of triage, and how those limits can spark improvisation and creative reinvention.

Genom att utveckla och integrera dessa synsätt och verktyg vill artikeln argumentera för att man får tillgång till nya berättelser om platsen; berättelser som går utöver den traditionella, „normala“ historien om staten, enskilda byggnaders materiella utformning och den sociokulturella och ekonomiska eliten. En långsiktig effekt blir att det möjliggör ökad mångfald och inkludering både i fråga om förmedling och representation av platser som komplexa rumsliga och sociokulturella helheter.

- Digital technology is transforming the assemblage and dissemination of historical information. Museums, libraries, archives, and universities increasingly modify their digital research infrastructures in order to make data open and available. The imminent assessment and representation of historical data has admittedly challenged the boundaries of historical knowledge and generated new research questions. The process of reconstructing, visualizing and rendering historical data has equally developed together with technology. This is the case in both academic and heritage contexts and in less immediatedly obvious popular uses, such as the increasingly significant presence and use of history within videogames. Regardless of specific context, as this collection of articles shows, the process of digitally capturing and representing historical data is often analogous to and determined by the digital platform used.

- Under rivningsraseriet på 1960- och 70-talen försvann 40 % av Sveriges äldre bostadsbestånd och i städerna gapade stora hål. Många liknade stadslandskapet vid en krigszon. Det handlade om att ersätta Sveriges gamla städer med moderna städer, och om att bygga bort Lortsverige. Otaliga människor förlorade sina hem och livsmiljöer genom rivning utan att först ha blivit tillfrågade. Och till en början var det tyst, inga protester. För den som var lyhörd fanns det dock gott om kritiska reflektioner och skepsis redan tidigt i processen: den uttrycktes av stadsforskare, arkitekter och deras studenter. Var de befintliga stadsmiljöerna verkligen så dåliga och utan värden? Varför kunde husen inte renoveras? Handlar detta inte om vår kulturhistoria? Fanns det inga andra sätt att planera dessa områden?

En diskussion om urban materialitet och staden som kulturarv samt om den specifika kontext som cirkulering på bebyggelsenivå ingår i, sätter in dessa frågor i ett större sammanhang. Här kartläggs vilka aktörer som är involverade, såväl hantverkare som akademiker, och vilka idéer och visioner som driver dem. Vidare undersöks när och var butiker nischade mot byggnadsvård växte fram. Rapporten bidrar till ny kunskap om byggnadsvårdsfältets framväxt och verksamhet, och hur detta är relaterad till de senaste decenniernas stadsomvandling.

- Elizabeth A. Povinelli, Franz Boas Professor at Columbia University, is a philosopher and anthropologist who has critically engaged with Michel Foucault’s ideas as well as scholarship inspired by his works. Povinelli has been dedicated to research on colonialism within liberalism and is also a filmmaker and founding member of The Karrabing Film Collective. The film collective is part of a larger organization of Aboriginal peoples and artists living in the Australian Northern Territory that refuses ‘fantasies of sovereignty and property’.[1]As Povinelli shares with us during the interview, her trajectory was constituted in the middle of the 1980s following her life-changing encounter with the elders in Belyuen in the Australian Northern Territory. In the wake of that encounter, and with urgent issues raised about indigeneity due to changes in Australian law, Povinelli has been working even closer with her Karrabing family. The changes in law both acknowledged Aboriginal peoples' rights to their territory and imposed certain ideas of identity, family and culture, producing an entanglement between rights and government. These efforts to manage differences – cultural, race, gender – are problematized and deciphered in Povinelli’s ethnographic work with a focus on how late settler liberalism has been reconfigured with novel expressions of colonialism and imperialism.

- Vi möter våld i någon form dagligen, om inte som ”offer” eller ”förövare”, så när vi läser tidningen, tittar på tv eller går på bio. Hela världen kan förefalla organiserad med utgångspunkt i våld. Med våld upprätthålls stater, grupphierarkier och individuella maktpositioner. Merparten av våldsutövarna är män liksom hälften av offren. Den andra hälften av offren är kvinnor och barn. Det här mönstret är globalt och historiskt konstant och gör att vi, som i titeln på den här boken, kan tala om att våld har ett kön. Våldets kön närmar sig våld som kulturell företeelse. Vilka betydelser har våld i olika historiska och samhälleliga kontexter? Vilka funktioner fyller våldet på en strukturell nivå och för enskilda individer? Vilka konsekvenser får våldet för våldsutsatta personer? Genom att placera våld i sin historiska och kulturella kontext synliggörs dess samhälleliga funktioner, de normer det utgår ifrån och vilken kulturell mening det bär. Våldets kön riktar sig till studenter på högskolenivå, särskilt de professionsutbildningar där studenterna i framtiden kommer att möta våldsutövning och våldsutsatthet. Den kan även användas i andra typer av utbildningar, såsom i fortbildning av personer som redan arbetar i verksamheter där de direkt eller indirekt möter en våldsproblematik.

The minutes you need to boil an egg, the temperature outside, the hours until the end of the workday, the hourly pay rate of your job, the recommended amount of salt in your daily diet, the number of likes on your latest social media post. Numbers help to make sense of what we think, feel and know. Everything can be measured, once we learn how to count.Since the 16th century, Europeans have become increasingly obsessed with collecting data. The ability to describe the world quantitatively gave way to modern science and the hope that we could understand how things are.When you count things, you probably feel achievement and success: the number of followers you have on social media, the clicks on your latest post, the number of steps you have taken this day. But to know what decisions you need to make, good metrics and a clear understanding of what is being measured are needed. If you can’t measure it, you can’t manage it. Or can you?This exhibition is part of Me-Mind, a Creative Europe project that aims to measure and visualise the effect of culture. Throughout the process, we’ve come up with great questions about what measuring and counting mean, their challenges and the effect they can have on people. We’re sharing these thoughts in the form of an exhibition.Please ask yourself about your relationship with data as you are going through the sections of the exhibition. - Mistrust is increasingly a daily reality of healthcare delivery worldwide. Yet it remains understudied as a form of relationship and a force in its own right. I address this gap through the ethnography of an Italian Emergency Department (ED), where conflicts have increased since the 2008 financial crisis. I show how mistrust does not result in a breakdown of healthcare interactions. Rather, mistrust is used in ambivalent care relationships to negotiate the roles, the risks, and the power that patients and staff are willing to entrust to others. Mistrust manifests in risk management strategies within relationships of “mistrustful dependency.”.

- Motivation & challenge: Computer Science suffers from a lack of diversity that gets perpetuated by the most dominant and visible role models. The community is doing itself a disservice by upholding techno-solutionism, short-term efficiency, and busyness as central values. Those models are created and consolidated over time through social and cultural interactions that increase the perpetration of gender stereotypes. Exposing people to diverse types of role models and stories can contribute to making them more aware of the complexity of reality and inspire them taking better informed decisionsmaking on their career paths. Likewise, showing different role models to stakeholders in society and industry can contribute to increase the workforce diversity in the profession of computing as well as to make a shift towards the consolidation of different role models. This, in turn, may contribute to strengthen resilience and adequacy for solving issues related to diversity, equality and inclusion in Computer Science and more importantly allowing women take the ownership of their career path. Goal: To encourage the dissemination, sharing and creation of stories that show diverse career pathways to address gender stereotypes created by dominant stories in Computer Science. We tackle this issue by developing a framework for storytelling around female scientists and professionals to show a diversity of possibilities for women in pursuing an academic career based on the ownership of their pathways. Method: We apply a qualitative approach to analyse stories collected using the auto-ethnography and use thematic analysis to unpack the components of what in these stories contribute to building the academic path in the field of Computer Science. Authors used their own professional histories and experiences as input. They highlighted the central values of their research visions and approaches to life and emphasised how they have helped to take decisions that shaped their professional paths. Results: We present a framework made of the nine macro-themes emerging from the autoethnography analysis and two dimensions that we pick from the literature (interactions and practices). The framework aims to be a reflecting storytelling tool that could support women in Computer Sciences to create their own paths. Specifically, the framework addresses issues related to communication, dissemination to the public, community engagement, education, and outreach to increase the diversity within Computer Science, AI and STEM in general. Impact: The framework can help building narratives to showcase the variety of values supported by Computer Science. These stories have the power of showing the diversity of people as well as highlighting the uniqueness of their research visions in contributing to transformation of our global society into a supportive, inclusive and equitable community. Our work aims to support practitioners who design outreach activities for increasing diversity and inclusion, and will help other stakeholders to reflect on their own reality, values and priorities. Additionally, the outcomes are useful for those who are working in improving the gender gap in Computer Science in academia and industry. Finally, they are meant for women who are willing to proceed into an academic career in this area by offering a spur for reflection and concrete actions that could support them in their path from PhD to professorship.

- The word smuggler often unleashes a simplified, negative image painted by the media and the authorities. Such state-centric perspectives hide many social, political and economic relations generated by smuggling. This book looks at the practice through the eyes of the smugglers, revealing how their work can be productive, subversive and deeply sociopolitical. By tracing the illegalised movement of people and goods across borders, Seeing Like a Smuggler shows smuggling as a contradiction within the nation-state system, and in a dialectical relation with the national order of things. It raises questions on how smuggling engages and unsettles the ethics, materialities, visualities, histories and the colonial power relations that form borders and bordering. Covering a wide spectrum of approaches from personal reflections and ethnographies to historical accounts, cultural analysis and visual essays, the book spans the globe from Colombia to Ethiopia, Singapore to Guatemala, Afghanistan to Zimbabwe, and from Kurdistan to Bangladesh, to show how people deal with global inequalities and the restrictions of poverty and immobility.

- How does artistic research engage with the concept of local? In what ways can art practice be an intervention into traditional notions of history and culture? How does it engage with local and global identities? This book raises questions about transient art practices and site-specific works within communities, as well as art and research based experiences localized in urban and rural spaces, within the body and memory. Being There is a wide-ranging anthology that demonstrates the field of artistic research has never been stronger. The essays and meditations are by visual artists, writers, performers, filmmakers, historians, sound artists, and activists who have worked together in the Nordic Summer University and who share a desire to unite their creative practices with critical enquiry. Their contributions were generated within twice-yearly symposia that moved between Nordic and Baltic countries over a three year cycle of practice-based research. Some contributions are enigmatic meditations on place, whilst others, paradoxically, address the question of what is local through the notion of the nomadic. Whether describing quests of individual artists, or relating to collective endeavours, these works are engaged with the spaces in between. Each offers the reader a thoughtful encounter with the aesthetic, and the political, within a myriad of art practices across a rapidly evolving Europe. - This article attempts to rethink some problematic ways and motivations for engaging in (field) recording and working with recorded sounds. Interweaving reflections from my long-term soundscape archiving initiative undertaken in Stockholm, with projects of others aiming at preserving cultures through sound, I reflect upon ethical challenges that emerge against the prospect of second and following lives and deaths of recordings. Does the second life of a recorded event risk replicating power relationships that the original recording was enmeshed in? What can be gained and, more importantly, lost while conceiving a second life of a recorded sound? This article intends to open up an array of such questions which, as I suggest, need to be taken into consideration already before and during the recording process. As a discursive tool that does not resolve those concerns but instead creates space for critical reflection, I propose a concept of acoustethics. In a nutshell, acoustethics, as this portmanteau of acoustics and ethics suggests, is an ethically informed approach to the world’s soundscapes. I argue that any kind of engagement with the auditory world through recording technologies requires careful consideration of multiple agencies contributing to the recorded sound. As a reflective attitude to the sonic realm, acoustethics acknowledges that any recording takes place within already existing fields of relations and simultaneously generates new links between subjects, histories, worldviews, technologies, and other forces. In other words, any recording is intrinsically field recording.

Many of these studies focus on the role of music as a collective emblem, a social catalyst and a unifying force for people in vulnerable situations.In April 2019, Nordic ethnomusicologists gathered in Stockholm to discuss how experiences and knowledge from previous studies could enrich today's research. This book is the result of this meeting.

- This paper discusses how ties with society are accumulated and interpreted as the ‘culture’ of an artefact. Following the reinterpretation of a painted statue into a white museum artefact, I argue that the rules we have to follow in approaching an artefact create a series of unrelated socio-cultural connotations which shape our perception of the object. The culture of the artefact is therefore largely the culture of the context through which it is presented. Hence, by distancing an artefact from an established context you also distance it from the networks that make up a large part of its cultural value. To discuss this process I draw on the works of Michael Callon and Bruno Latour, describing the presentation as a ‘translation’ – a process where the artefact is reinterpreted from one state into another. As a method to describe values sprung from the presentation of the artefact, I propose, and exemplify, a vocabulary of limitations for mapping the ties between society and artefact in different contexts. This vocabulary – developed for this article – helps us identify deeper connections between artefact, context and society by focusing on how interaction has been shaped around the artefact.

- Ambjörnsson and Svensson analyse a group of queer feminist activists watching the reality show Paradise Hotel. Inspired by the feminist research tradition’s interest in consumers, the reality TV format is understood as a genre centred on intervention, participation and emotionality, rather than merely representation. Following Sara Ahmed’s thoughts on orientation, the viewers’ emotional reactions of approaching and distancing themselves from the programme are used to investigate various ways of handling and managing vulnerability. This is achieved through localizing a specific queer feminist viewing position, where the viewers’ feminist identification with female subordination is combined with a camp attitude towards the despised and failed. Thus, through embracing and exposing themselves to the hyperbolic, exaggerated, shameless and sometimes sexist and homophobic representations in the programme, they simultaneously negotiate marginalization, subordination, a longing for inclusion in mainstream society and their own potential middle-class advantage.
