- This essay outlines a heuristic model of a teaching practice that attempts to operate within the fundamentally contested field of artistic research by exploring the terms and processes of conflicted institutional practices and rhetorics. Taking account of the different ways in which artistic research has become a highly visible moment of institutional conflict, this paper outlines an approach to teaching early-stage researchers through active processes of knowledge conflict. The model outlined here proposes a group process by which fault-lines of conflict and disagreement may be thematized and operationalized within a teaching praxis. The provisional model being proposed is based upon concrete experiment and application over the last decade in a range of formal and informal educational settings.

- For the third year, the AHA festival investigates the meeting between art and science in a three-day event at the Chalmers University of Technology hosted by the Department of Architecture and the Department of Physics. An international festival intended to provide enlightening experiences, staging surprises, new thoughts and displaced perspectives that lead to alternative modes of thinking about exploring the world through art and science. We invite scientists (physicists, historians, astronomers, engineers), artists (dancers, musicians, painters, poets, acrobats) who reside in these borderlands and wish to share their vision and work. The key intention is to celebrate both art and science as key knowledge building devices.The first year’s theme ’Embodiment’ (2014) explored the body as our anchor in the world, followed by the 2015 theme on ’Numbers’, a delightful net we cast over the world. This year's theme is ’Uni-verse,’ again a natural consequence of our interest in the relation between art and science. The elemental force that drives science as well as art is curiosity. Come be curious with us! During the festival we have chosen to divide the word universe into three: uni and "-" and verse. Uni means that something is combined into a whole. Verse means that we are turned in a direction, the origin of the word tells us that it is the plow that turns at the end of the field. And the dash "-" is all the spaces and cracks where new discoveries can grow. Art and science unfolds in the gap between what we know and what we want to know.

- Vi har länge velat prata om den amerikanske målaren John Singer Sargent (1856-1925) och när vi var i Boston och såg hans fantastiska målningar där, bestämde vi oss att göra ett avsnitt om denna spännande och redan på sin tid mycket populära konstnär! Sargent är mest känd för sina porträtt, men vi valde ”Carnation, Lily, Lily, Rose”, som målades 1885-86 och som finns på Tate Britain i London. Vad betyder den mystiska titeln som låter som en trollformel egentligen? Och är det en spegling av ett och samma barn vi ser? Vilken skandal ledde till att Sargent var tvungen att lämna Paris och hur hamnade han i Cotswolds, där målningen färdigställdes under två sensomrar? Varför arbetade Sargent under långa perioder bara 10 minuter per dag med verket? Och hur kom det sig att läsarskaran bakom The Pall Mall Gazette röstade fram målningen som den man minst av alla ville ha i sitt hem?

Jag och tre andra manusförfattare skriver varsitt kortfilmsmanus med respektive metod. Jag intervjuar dem efteråt och för egen processdagbok, och jämför de olika manusen: vad har de olika metoderna för olika förlopp, och hur kan dessa skillnader förklaras?Utifrån en kritisk diskussion av olika manusmanualer, undersöker jag dessa prospektiva kontra retrospektiva skrivpraktiker med fokus dels på process och dels på resultat. Resultaten som kan användas både i manusförfattande samt i skrivundervisning.

- Chinese Whispers is an edition based on the children’s game with which it shares its name. A voice recording of a whispered word chosen by the editors of the volume was passed on to an initial contributor who was asked to work with the recording, the sound itself as well as its transcription, and produce a sound- and text-based contribution to the volume. Additionally, our initial contributor was asked to pick a subsequent contributor to the series and make another sound recording of the whispered word for this person to work with. We set out to allow this process to continue until we reached a point where we had six confirmed contributors to the volume, each of which had agreed to produce an individual edition containing a CD and various forms of printed matter.The resulting volume is a box-set containing six separate contributions that share the same format and are interlinked by the gradual mutation and disintegration of the original word recorded which remains the undisclosed basis of volume in its entirety.Contributors: Neil Chapman, Jill Magi, Sissu Tarka, Uriel Orlow, Brendan Fernandes and Jaanika Peerna.

- Counting Each Step of the Sun explores the diverse set of intersections between the voice of or in a text, the voice during actual reading, vocalization and subvocalization processes, and the recorded voice. It features contributions that in some way problematize, displace and deconstruct any easy set of identifications and distinctions between these different vocal realms as well as those which seek to render possible mutations, hybridizations, points of indiscernability and crossovers between them.The title of the proposed volume derives from an autobiographical story recounted by Allen Ginsberg in a BBC interview with Jeremy Andrews. Spending time in a friend’s New York apartment, Ginsberg tells Andrews how he experienced an aural hallucination in which William Blake recited his poem ‘Ah! Sunflower’ to him in a voice much like Ginsberg’s own yet distinctly different, emanating from his sternum. Ginsberg proceeds to recite the poem himself – ‘Ah! Sunflower, weary of time, who countest the steps of the sun, seeking after that sweet golden clime, where the travelers journey is done, where the youth pined away with desire, and the pale virgin shrouded in snow, arise from their graves and aspire, where my sunflower wishes to go.’ – bringing to mind his 1969 recording of the poem, performed accompanied by a small harmonium on top of the sound of which Ginsberg and others half recites, half sings Blake’s poem.Although this present volume does not engage specifically with the work of Allen Ginsberg, nor that of William Blake, it does draw upon the interplay between voices in this story – that is, the interplay between the voice of or in Blake’s text, the peculiar voices in Ginsberg’s subvocalization-cum-aural hallucination, the voice of Ginsberg reading, the voice we find on the recording of Ginsberg singing, and the voice of Ginsberg recounting his story. On the basis of such interplay, we have been gathering contributions from poets, sound poets, musicians and artists whose current and/or past work we feel have in some way engaged with or intervened in this general field. Contributors have been encouraged to think and work with similar intersections and interstitial spaces in their own poetics, and/or in the work of others, producing text and sound pieces/collages using editing and remixing processes that in some way destabilize, displace and render uncertain any easy and comfortable distinction between these different vocal realms.This volume collects the contributions we received and includes the work of Charles Bernstein, Caroline Bergvall, Christian Bök, Johannes Heldén, Kenneth Goldsmith, Lars-Gunnar Bodin and Danny Snelson.

- Theme of the festival: Stateless Mind #5 - Calling it Home, focuses on the concepts of home, materially and metaphorically in relation to the given environment and surroundings. It brings together artistic practices that explore the idea of home as an ideal place, identity, and a sense of belonging. For some people home is a house, connected to a particular place. For others, it is the city- or landscape, the color of the sky, or a sense of belonging to a certain group of people or community who shares the same values, beliefs, or way of life. The festival will feature around 20 artists with different backgrounds in Scandinavia, Asia and USA. The majority of them are based in Europe as migrants. The participating artists are invited to create works in response to their exploration and experiences of the hybridity that exist in a multicultural society. They will create performances that reflect and investigate the concept of home, while contributing to a Nordic attribution on cultural diversity and potentially reclaiming their own history and narratives in response to dominant discourses. Stateless Mind #5 - Calling it Home seeks to contribute to a bigger public awareness of the work of intercultural artists. It offers nuances about what home means and adds to the dialogue of the global movements or migration. It wishes to stimulate an interest in art, that enables a transnational connectedness between people in the local communities and internationally concerning the multi-cultural society we are living in. Diaspora refers to a group of people living outside their ancestral homeland, and in the context of this festival, it pertains to artists who discuss and respond to their exploration and experiences of hybridity resulting from multiple cultural heritages. - Tiny Festival Producers producerar och framför, med sin nomadiska praktik, platsspecifika och tvärkonstnärliga verk samt deltar i konstnärlig forskning vid Nordic Summer University. Året 2023: Samverkat med komponisten och artisten Iryna Novikova aka Insomnia Taxxi. Möjliggjort att fyra Ukrainska kulturarbetar i exil har haft residens i föreningen via SWAN-nätverket / Artists-at-Risk som medverkat i produktionen 'The Answering Machine' av Finn Iunker. Arbetet med "The Answering Machine" har fungerat som en motståndshandling. Mot alienation, separation och apati. För sammanhållning, solidaritet och humor. Medverkande: Benedikte Esperi, Galyna Dutka, Yuliia Rossoshko, Cia Runesson, Andres Skreia, Stella Shokotko, Glib Skvortsov, Annikki Wahlöö and Iryna Novikova. - LOCAL COLOUR : Ghosts, variations is a collaboration between In Edit Mode Press and Canadian poet Derek Beaulieu. The publication takes as its point of departure, Paul Auster’s novella Ghosts, and, in particular, Derek Beaulieu’s reworking of Auster’s text, Local Colour. Focusing on the tension created in Beaulieu’s manuscript between the textual narrative and the graphical mark, and the opening it seems to provide toward a realm of intermediality and experimentation, we have solicited a series of textual, aural, oral, musical, and other interpretations, as well as more machinic ‘utilisations,’ of Beaulieu’s manuscript. What interests us, in particular, is the way in which Local Colour seems to split Auster’s narrative text open, deterritorialising it by rendering it graphical and freeing it up, by the same gesture, to a potential excess of meaning. Seeking to extend and amplify this ambitious project, what we attempt with this volume, is to open Beaulieu’s project up for others to split open. We seek to deterritorialise the coloured rectangles of his manuscript – in every sense a violent yet affirmative gesture – and explore the horizons toward which such violence might take us. In doing so, Local Colour: Ghosts, variations collects and counterposes a wide array of strategies and approaches. It is an ambitious, vigorous collection that oscillates and moves between textual narrative, graphical mark, and aural impression, exploring these different realms while rendering uncertain any easy distinction between them.

What used to be science fiction has suddenly become everyday reality. Our bodies are enhanced and degraded through genetic engineering, environmental pollutants, conveniences, and steroids. The body of society is fragmented and at the same time interconnected ever more tightly by smartphones, algorithms, viruses, and drones. The work is based at Korsvägen in central Gothenburg, a place where many different perspectives come together. The voice of the narrator moves among different times and viewpoints in order to bring to life a world in transition, where many events remain incomprehensible until, suddenly, they are reality. What are we choosing not to see today that is already shaping life in the future? And what did we refuse to see yesterday that we have to live with today? - What if och scenen Zoom, a 30 min context specific semi-digital performance made for the conversation and video platform Zoom, for and in the interdisciplinary project Categorisation supposting the implemenation of Universal Design in Sweden (Kattu) that I devoloped and worked with during 2020. The project investigated categorisation of disability and gender as patterns of inequality and the basis for discrimenation. I was invited as an artist and an artisitic researcher to in part contribute to the project as a whole but in part also produce an autnomous work, it became a performance as a discussion tool - to be able discussiong future bodies and societys.

- Amidst the hysteria for constant connectivity, transparency and ‘efficient’ creativity which belies the current crisis of creativity, this paper asserts the value of poetic incommunicability—to creativity and to society. The role of the poet-artist-designer is vital in constructing structures of multivocality which activate the dynamic relations between communicability and incommunicability. The paradoxically ‘efficient’ mechanisms of these structures can be understood through theories of poetry depicted by Viktor Shklovsky and André Breton.The ‘black box’, a figure of incommunicability borrowed from science, represents the possibility of temporary disconnection, a critical precondition of creativity. Conceptualizing and valuing such spaces while designing the interruptibility of their reciprocal relations with communicability—the architecture of their porosity—becomes the primary task of ‘dialogical design’.These themes are explored, conveyed, delayed and complicated through the device of the metalogue, which collages and connects, often in a more physical narrative sense.

- This book explores the concept of digital epistemology. In this context, the digital will not be understood as merely something that is linked to specific tools and objects, but rather as different modes of thought. For example, the digital within the humanities is not just databases and big data, topic modelling and speculative visualizations; nor are the objects limited to computer games, other electronic works, or to literature and art that explicitly relate to computerization or other digital aspects. In what way do digital tools and expressions in the 1960s differ to the ubiquitous systems of our time? What kind of artistic effects does this generate? Is the present theoretical fascination for materiality an effect or a reaction to a digitization? Above all: how can early modern forms such as the cabinets of curiosity, emblem books and the archival principle of pertinence contribute to the analyses of contemporary digital forms?

Moving beyond traditional explanations of their enduring appeal – that they embody an aesthetic that combines horror with a mindless target; that lower age ratings for zombie games widen the market; or that Artificial Intelligence routines for zombies are easier to develop – the book provides a multidisciplinary and comprehensive look at this cultural phenomenon. Drawing on detailed case studies from across the genre, contributors from a variety of backgrounds offer insights into how the study of zombies in the context of video games informs an analysis of their impact on contemporary popular culture. Issues such as gender, politics, intellectual property law, queer theory, narrative storytelling and worldbuilding, videogame techniques and technology, and man’s relation to monsters are closely examined in their relation to zombie video games. - NUESTRAS MADRES is an artwork by the art collective IDA performed at the AHRA Architecture and Feminisms Conference (2016), which consisted of a collective ritual and a poetry reading. The ritual created a safe space where a group of participants sat around a table taking turns in sharing their stories about their mothers while embroidering their mothers’ names on a single tablecloth. These were synthesized into a poem and presented the following day. IDA investigates issues in private and public space connected to knowledge production and gender normativity. Even though the role of mothers and their knowledge is usually connected to the private sphere, the knowledge of our mothers and their mothers shared en la mesa - over the table - is important in the construction of political subjects. How has this knowledge helped us survive in society as women, queer, indigenous, working class, Muslim, immigrant - as human beings?

- We wanted to investigate the historical and sounding landscapes from which the book Tapesha- vet originated and made an expedition to some central places on Härnäset in Bohuslän. What were the “conditions” from which the poems had arisen, and what were the soundscapes that, at least partly, formed the basis for the “singing”? We visited the quarry in Ed, shell gravel slopes at Röe homestead, Fågelviken with its gunpowder store, and Näverkärr’s forests. The voices in the Tapeshavet Hörspiel (Hansson & Hultqvist, 2020) approach four different levels of narration: shorter (poetic) excerpts from Tapeshavet, documentary in situ comments and conversations, stories in and about special places, and to that some reflections on the research project in general. In terms of sound the material largely consists of ambient (environmental) sounds, micro-sounds (close-ups of natural sounds), performances on natural and created found objects in search of their sounding properties, as well as further processing of environmental and object sounds.

- Text av Per Stern från Nya Lidköpingdtidningen: På plats är också feministiska dansaktivisten Ami Skånberg Dahlstedt. Under sitt föredrag leder hon hela skaran av åhörare ut på gräsmattan bakom museet för att utöva den långsamma gångtekniken suriashi. Hon är doktorand i dans på Roehamptons universitet i England och har under flera år utövat suriashi på olika platser i världen, ensam eller tillsammans med andra. – Suriashi är en viktig komponent i japansk dans. Den kan göras både snabbt och långsamt. Men när jag började gå i suriashi i städer märkte jag att vi mest behöver den långsamma varianten, säger hon. Vilket alla gör på gräsmattan. Och man är aldrig ensam, även om det ser ut så. Ens anmödrar och förfäder finns alltid med en. Aktivistformen suriashi kontrasterar mot den högljudda protesten med näven i luften. – Det är en tyst och långsam form av aktivism, säger Ami Skånberg Dahlstedt.

- I boken Collecting I finns privatpersonens I:s samlingar fotodokumenterade. I samlar och jag har samlat på I genom ett urval som avslöjar något om henne och samtidigt väcker något hos mig. Parallellt med fotograferandet har detta något skrivits fram i korta texter. Ett något som har med ritualer, tid och kroppar att göra. Collecting I är utgiven på förlaget Sailor Press som med sin utgivning utforskar fältet mellan konst och grafisk formgivning i direkt och nära samarbete med konstnärer. Sailor Press drivs av bokformgivaren Matilda Plöjel. Release för Collecting I hölls på Galleri Format i Malmö den 21/5 2022, i samtal med Thomas Millroth, konsthistoriker, kritiker, curator, författare och Helga Härenstam, konstnär som parallellt hade release för boken Semester på samma förlag.
