Data collection was made by questionnaires, focus interviews and written documents. The results that were obtained shows that: most of students were men and the average age was 21 years; most of them had studied music before they registered in the Music Teaching Course and the attraction to music was the main reason for choosing their carrier; classical guitar, voice and electric guitar were the main instruments of the students; rock and roll, classical music and Brazilian popular music were their musical preferences. The information that was collected will help to change some of the aspects of the political and pedagogical scheme of the Music Teaching Course.
