  • On the Generalized Normal Form for MIMO-Systems
  • 1995
  • Rapport (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • In this report will we investigate how a generalized normal form can be calculated for MIMO-systems. The method given is constructive and it will be shown how the calculation of the normal form of affine polynomial state space systems follow as a special case. Also exact input-output linearization and noninteracting control using the generalized normal form will be discussed.

  • Neuronal basis of crossed actions from the reticular formation on feline hindlimb motoneurons.
  • 2003
  • Ingår i: The Journal of neuroscience : the official journal of the Society for Neuroscience. - 1529-2401. ; 23:5, s. 1867-78
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Pathways through which reticulospinal neurons can influence contralateral limb movements were investigated by recording from motoneurons innervating hindlimb muscles. Reticulospinal tract fibers were stimulated within the brainstem or in the lateral funiculus of the thoracic spinal cord contralateral to the motoneurons. Effects evoked by ipsilaterally descending reticulospinal tract fibers were eliminated by a spinal hemisection at an upper lumbar level. Stimuli applied in the brainstem evoked EPSPs, IPSPs, or both at latencies of 1.42 +/- 0.03 and 1.53 +/- 0.04 msec, respectively, from the first components of the descending volleys and with properties indicating a disynaptic linkage, in most contralateral motoneurons: EPSPs in 76% and IPSPs in 26%. EPSPs with characteristics of monosynaptically evoked responses, attributable to direct actions of crossed axon collaterals of reticulospinal fibers, were found in a small proportion of the motoneurons, whether evoked from the brainstem (9%) or from the thoracic cord (12.5%). Commissural neurons, which might mediate the crossed disynaptic actions (i.e., were antidromically activated from contralateral motor nuclei and monosynaptically excited from the ipsilateral reticular formation), were found in Rexed's lamina VIII in the midlumbar segments (L3-L5). The results reveal that although direct actions of reticulospinal fibers are much more potent on ipsilateral motoneurons, interneuronally mediated actions are as potent contralaterally as ipsilaterally, and midlumbar commissural neurons are likely to contribute to them. They indicate a close coupling between the spinal interneuronal systems used by the reticulospinal neurons to coordinate muscle contractions ipsilaterally and contralaterally.

  • The Earning Days are Over? Trends in transformation of journalisms in the Nordic countries and Russia - contexts and visions
  • 2012
  • Ingår i: Media Transformations. - 2029-865X .- 2029-8668. ; 8, s. 24-46
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Based on a comparative look at media transformations that have emerged in the Nordic countries and Russia, this article questions a simplified concept of transition, i.e., an adaptation of the "East" to models from the "West". The transformation of media system(s) is global, although it takes different forms in different countries due to historical and political reasons. We focus on the conditions for maintaining journalistic work in light of emerging challenges to earlier models for economical sustainability. We find similar pressures towards transformations of the media sector in the Nordic countries and in Russia due to technological changes affecting work organization. We find fewer similarities in the transformation of intermedia competition. In the Nordic countries, adaptation to transformation is constrained by the journalists' maintenance of well-established professional values. In Russia, these constraints are less present, whereas there is a stronger focus on adaptation to economic and political constraints. Credibility claims would require the media in Russia to free itself from the control that evidently has come in with the ownership and sponsorship structures. Media in the Nordic countries meet the challenges of organizational reliability in a different way, but also in this context the news media are challenged to find a way to reliably cope with new forms of financing and new business models.

  • Fäbodens kulturmiljö : ny kunskap om gamla värden
  • 1993
  • Ingår i: Kulturmiljövård. - Stockholm : Riksantikvarieämbetet. - 1100-4800. ; :6, s. 28-30

  • Degradation of superparamagnetic iron oxide nanoparticle-induced ferritin by lysosomal cathepsins and related immune response
  • 2012
  • Ingår i: Nanomedicine. - : Future Medicine. - 1743-5889 .- 1748-6963. ; 7:5, s. 705-717
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Aim: To examine the physiological impact of superparamagnetic iron oxide nanoparticles (SPIONs) on cell function and its interaction with oxysterol laden cells. Materials andamp; methods: Intracellular iron was determined by Prussian blue staining. Cellular ferritin, cathepsin L and ferroportin were analyzed by flow cytometry and fluorescence microscopy. Cytokine secretion was determined by ELISA and immunoblotting. Results: In U937 and THP 1 cells, we did not detect any loss of cell viability on SPION loading. Desferrioxamine prevents induction of both ferritin and cathepsin L by SPIONs. Inhibition of lysosomal cathepsins upregulates both endogenous- and SPION-induced ferritin. SPION loading induces membranous ferroportin and incites secretion of ferritin, TNF-alpha and IL-10. 7 beta-hydroxycholesterol exposure reduces SPION uptake by cells. Conclusion: SPION loading results in upregulation of lysosomal cathepsin, membranous ferroportin and ferritin degradation, which is associated with secretion of both pro- and anti-inflammatory cytokines. A reduced SPION uptake by oxysterol-laden cells may lead to a compromised MRI with elevated cathepsins and ferritin.

  • An integrated approach to understand the mechanisms underlying salt stress tolerance in Casuarina glauca and its relation with nitrogen-fixing Frankia Thr
  • 2016
  • Ingår i: Symbiosis. - : Springer Science and Business Media LLC. - 0334-5114 .- 1878-7665. ; 70:1, s. 111-116
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Salinity is one of the most wide spread abiotic stresses affecting agricultural productivity, with an impact on more than 800 million hectares worldwide. A promising solution for the recovery of saline soils encompasses the use of actinorhizal plants, a group of perennial dicotyledonous angiosperms including species highly resilient to extreme environmental conditions. These plants are able to establish root-nodule symbiosis with N-2-fixing actinobacteria of the genus Frankia. In this review, we discuss the main physiological and biochemical mechanisms underlying salt tolerance in the model Casuarina glauca supplemented with chemical nitrogen or obtaining it from symbiotic Frankia. In the first part, an overview of the impact of increasing NaCl concentrations in photosynthesis, antioxidative system and membrane integrity is presented. The second part addresses the effect of salt stress in the symbiosis between C. glauca and Frankia strain Thr. Preliminary results from analyses of the branchlets proteome and nodule metabolome are presented as well.

  • 2018
  • Ingår i: Metallofizika i Noveishie Tekhnologii. - : National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine (Co. LTD Ukrinformnauka). - 1024-1809. ; 40:8, s. 1081-1091
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Influence of sintering temperature on both phase composition and structure of ceramic matrix composites based on cubic boron nitride with binders in a form of Al and the Ti, Cr, V carbides are investigated by methods of physical materials science. As the object of study, three cBN–TiC–Al, cBN–Cr3C2–Al, cBN–VC–Al compositions containing 60% vol. cBN are selected. The composites are obtained by high-pressure high-temperature (HPHT) sintering in high-pressure apparatus AVTT-30 in the temperature range of 1600– 2450°C under pressure of 7.7 GPa. In the process of HPHT sintering of composites in the cBN–TiC–Al and cBN–Cr3C2–Al systems, the formation of titanium and chromium diborides is found at the temperatures of sintering Тsint ≥ 1850°С and Тsint ≥ 2150°С, respectively, simultaneously with the formation of alu-minium nitride.

  • The internal rotenone-insensitive NADPH dehydrogenase contributes to malate oxidation by potato tuber and pea leaf mitochondria
  • 1998
  • Ingår i: Physiologia Plantarum. - : Wiley. - 0031-9317. ; 104:3, s. 329-336
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Inside-out submitochondrial particles from both potato (Solanum tuberosum L. cv. Bintje) tubers and pea (Pisum sativum L. cv. Oregon) leaves possess three distinct dehydrogenase activities: Complex I catalyzes the rotenone-sensitive oxidation of deamino-NADH, NDin(NADPH) catalyzes the rotenone-insensitive and Ca2+-dependent oxidation of NADPH and NDin(NADH) catalyzes the rotenone-insensitive and Ca2+-independent oxidation of NADH. Diphenylene iodonium (DPI) inhibits complex I, NDin(NADPH) and NDin (NADH) activity with a Ki of 3.7, 0.17 and 63 µM, respectively, and the 400-fold difference in Ki between the two NDin made possible the use of DPI inhibition to estimate NDin (NADPH) contribution to malate oxidation by intact mitochondria. The oxidation of malate in the presence of rotenone by intact mitochondria from both species was inhibited by 5 µM DPI. The maximum decrease in rate was 10–20 nmol O2 mg-1 min-1. The reduction level of NAD(P) was manipulated by measuring malate oxidation in state 3 at pH 7.2 and 6.8 and in the presence and absence of an oxaloacetate-removing system. The inhibition by DPI was largest under conditions of high NAD(P) reduction. Control experiments showed that 125 µM DPI had no effect on the activities of malate dehydrogenase (with NADH or NADPH) or malic enzyme (with NAD+ or NADP+) in a matrix extract from either species. Malate dehydrogenase was unable to use NADP+ in the forward reaction. DPI at 125 µM did not have any effect on succinate oxidation by intact mitochondria of either species. We conclude that the inhibition caused by DPI in the presence of rotenone in plant mitochondria oxidizing malate is due to inhibition of NDin(NADPH) oxidizing NADPH. Thus, NADP turnover contributes to malate oxidation by plant mitochondria.
