  • A global perspective on party organizations. Validating the Varieties of Party Identity and Organization Dataset (V-Party)
  • 2022
  • Ingår i: Electoral Studies. - : Elsevier BV. - 0261-3794. ; 75
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Party organization is a central concept in comparative politics. Yet, data on party organizational features is sparse, scattered and available for a limited set of countries and parties. To advance global research on party organizations, we present the Varieties of Party Identity and Organization Dataset (V-Party) – the most comprehensive dataset to date, including a wide range of information about organizational features and party stances of more than 1900 parties in 168 countries between 1970 and 2019. In this paper, we focus particular attention on new measures that relate to parties' territorial reach, ties to social organizations, candidate nomination procedures, personalization, and internal cohesion. We validate these new measures using Adcock and Collier's (2001) three-pronged validation approach, looking at content, criterion and construct validity, to showcase and emphasize the potential of V-Party.

  • Isotopic and historical evidence of regional stockfish trade in the Skagerrak during the 16th century
  • 2024
  • Ingår i: Journal of Archaeological Science. - 2352-409X .- 2352-4103. ; 54, s. 104439-
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Preserved fish was one of the main traded commodities in medieval and early modern times, and herring and cod were the socioeconomically most important species. This paper brings together stable isotope ratio analysis of archaeological cod bones and documentary data from customs records originating from the early modern Swedish town of Nya Lödöse (1473–1624 CE), shedding new light on the import of stockfish (dried cod). The combined results show that the stockfish imported to Nya Lödöse was mainly produced in the Danish town of Skagen, and the importance of Bergenfish was negligible. The Skagen fisheries targeted large gadids, skates, and flatfish and have hitherto been bypassed in archaeological research on the medieval and early modern fish trade. The findings of this research highlight the intense connectivity between communities across the Skagerrak and give an example of the comprehensive regional fish trade that existed alongside the long-distance trade. Another important conclusion is that the isotopic values for cod caught in the Skagerrak must be used with caution since this sea basin is populated by several different cod stocks. The North Sea cod population inhabits a large part of the Skagerrak, and cod bones with isotopic values consistent with the North Sea might thus have been fished in the Skagerrak.

  • BaZrO3 stability under pressure: The role of nonlocal exchange and correlation
  • 2020
  • Ingår i: Physical Review B. - 2469-9969 .- 2469-9950. ; 101:22
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The ground-stale structure of BaZrO3 is experimentally known to be cubic down to absolute zero. However, there exist several measured properties and experimental characterizations that earlier computational works have failed to accurately describe and explain within this cubic symmetry. Among these properties and observations are the dielectric constant and the parallel mean-squared relative displacement value that tracks the fluctuations in distance for Ba-O atom pairs. Previous density-functional theory (DFT) studies have resolved the issue by assuming that BaZrO(3 )undergoes a phase transition from cubic to tetragonal I4/mcm symmetry, possibly while forming a glasslike state that reflects cubic symmetry on average. In this paper, we show that the set of experimental results can indeed be satisfactorily explained by DFT entirely within the cubic symmetry. We find that past theory limitations arose from the choice of exchange-correlation-functional approximations and that the inclusion of Fock exchange in hybrids significantly improves the DFT performance. We also find that the inclusion of nonlocal correlation effects is beneficial. We conclude by making a prediction for the phase-transition pressure for the transition from cubic to tetragonal symmetry at zero kelvin.
