  • Cherenkov radiation emitted by solitons in optical fibers
  • 1995
  • Ingår i: Physical Review A - Atomic, Molecular, and Optical Physics. - 2469-9926 .- 2469-9934. ; 51:3, s. 2602-2607
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We demonstrate a simple, fully analytic method of calculating the amount of radiation emitted by optical solitons perturbed by higher-order dispersion effects in fibers and find good agreement with numerical results. It is pointed out that this radiation mechanism is analogous to the well-known Cherenkov radiation processes in nonlinear optics. © 1995 The American Physical Society.

  • Radiationless optical solitons with oscillating tails
  • 1994
  • Ingår i: Optics Communications. - : Elsevier BV. - 0030-4018. ; 110:5-6, s. 540-544
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We investigate, analytically and numerically, stationary soliton-like pulse propagation in nonlinear optical fibres, taking into account the effects of fourth order dispersion. A new type of stationary stable soliton-like solution is found. A unique feature of this type of solution is their unusual asymptotic behaviour (oscillating tails). © 1994.

  • An alliance of humans and machines for machine learning : Hybrid intelligent systems and their design principles
  • 2021
  • Ingår i: Technology in society. - : Elsevier. - 0160-791X .- 1879-3274. ; 66
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • With the growing number of applications of artificial intelligence such as autonomous cars or smart industrial equipment, the inaccuracy of utilized machine learning algorithms could lead to catastrophic outcomes. Human-in-the-loop computing combines human and machine intelligence resulting in a hybrid intelligence of complementary strengths. Whereas machines are unbeatable in logic and computation speed, humans are contributing with their creative and dynamic minds. Hybrid intelligent systems are necessary to achieve high accuracy and reliability of machine learning algorithms. In a design science research project with a Swedish manufacturing company, this paper presents an application of human-in-the-loop computing to make operational processes more efficient. While conceptualizing a Smart Power Distribution for electric industrial equipment, this research presents a set of principles to design machine-learning algorithms for hybrid intelligence. From being AI-ready as an organization to clearly focusing on the customer benefits of a hybrid intelligent system, designers need to build and strengthen the trust in the human-AI relationship to make future applications successful and reliable. With the growing trends of technological advancements and incorporation of artificial intelligence in more and more applications, the alliance of humans and machines have become even more crucial.

  • What do you know when you know something about history?
  • 2014
  • Ingår i: Historical Encounters. - Callaghan : HERMES History Education Research Network. - 2203-7543. ; 1:1, s. 50-61
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • What does it mean to know something about history? If you know “your” history, what is it that you know? For many, it is definitely about being able to provide dates, to state what happened or how people lived in the past; while for others it means being able to conduct genealogical research or being able to navigate in a video game that takes place in an historical environment. In a school context, the issue of knowledge is always central. Pupils and teachers meet in, around and through knowledge, and moreover, knowledge is assessed daily. This article addresses how pupils in the last years of the nine-year period of Swedish compulsory schooling regard knowledge about history. The aim is to investigate how Swedish 15 years old pupils in Grade 9 describe knowledge about history, as well as what type of knowledge about history pupils appear to hold.

  • Acute Myocarditis Associated With Desmosomal Gene Variants
  • 2022
  • Ingår i: JACC. Heart failure. - : ELSEVIER SCI LTD. - 2213-1779 .- 2213-1787. ; 10:10, s. 714-727
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • BACKGROUND The risk of adverse cardiovascular events in patients with acute myocarditis (AM) and desmosomal gene variants (DGV) remains unknown.OBJECTIVES The purpose of this study was to ascertain the risk of death, ventricular arrhythmias, recurrent myocarditis, and heart failure (main endpoint) in patients with AM and pathogenic or likely pathogenetic DGV.METHODS In a retrospective international study from 23 hospitals, 97 patients were included: 36 with AM and DGV (DGV[+]), 25 with AM and negative gene testing (DGV[-]), and 36 with AM without genetics testing. All patients had troponin elevation plus findings consistent with AM on histology or at cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR). In 86 patients, CMR changes in function and structure were re-assessed at follow-up.RESULTS In the DGV(+) AM group (88.9% DSP variants), median age was 24 years, 91.7% presented with chest pain, and median left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF) was 56% on CMR (P = NS vs the other 2 groups). Kaplan-Meier curves demonstrated a higher risk of the main endpoint in DGV(+) AM compared with DGV(-) and without genetics testing patients (62.3% vs 17.5% vs 5.3% at 5 years, respectively; P < 0.0001), driven by myocarditis recurrence and ventricular arrhythmias. At follow-up CMR, a higher number of late gadolinium enhanced segments was found in DGV(+) AM. CONCLUSIONS Patients with AM and evidence of DGV have a higher incidence of adverse cardiovascular events compared with patients with AM without DGV. Further prospective studies are needed to ascertain if genetic testing might improve risk stratification of patients with AM who are considered at low risk. • Study on Power Saving Based on Radio Frame in LTE Wireless Communication System Using DRX
  • 2011
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Long Term Evolution (LTE) of 3GPP provides high bandwidth for data transfer. Having high bandwidth transfer will exhaust the user equipment (UE)'s battery power quickly. To extend the UE's battery lifetime the 3GPP standards for LTE support Enhanced Discontinuous Reception (DRX). The DRX allow an idle UE to save battery by turning off the radio receiver for a predefined period. Since the Transmission Time Interval (TTI) is related to the size of the data block passed from the higher networks layers to the radio link layer, the DRX scheduler should vary the resource allocation of each user basis on TTI. In this paper, we have evaluated the influences of the TTI sizes as well as the effects of LTE DRX Light and Deep Sleep mode on power consumption for Voice and Web traffic.
