  • On the N best problem for hypergraphs
  • 2016
  • Konferensbidrag (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • We propose an algorithm for computing the $N$ best roots of a weighted hypergraph, in which the weight function is given over an idempotent and multiplicatively monotone semiring. We give a set of conditions that ensures that the weight function is well-defined and that solutions exist. Under these conditions, we prove that the proposed algorithm is correct.  This generalizes a previous result for weighted tree automata, and in doing so, broadens the practical applications.

  • Physical self-esteem : a ten year follow-up study from early adolescence to early adulthood
  • 2015
  • Ingår i: International Journal of Adolescent Medicine and Health. - : Walter de Gruyter. - 0334-0139 .- 2191-0278. ; 27:1, s. 31-39
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Introduction: One variable that has been consistently associated with adolescents’ physical activity is perceived activity competence. Perceived physical (or sport) competence is considered a sub-domain to the physical self-esteem or self-worth (i.e., a person’s valuation of what is good and worthy in their self-description).Objective: This study aimed to describe levels of and inter-correlations among physical self-esteem, physical activity, and body mass index in a longitudinal design spanning adolescence to early adulthood.Materials and methods: At mean ages of 12.7, 15.7, 17.7 and 22.7 years, we measured perceived physical self-esteem in 39 (22 boys) Swedish adolescents. Physical activity (steps/day) for four consecutive schooldays, height, and weight were also measured. Results: No significant difference between the four time points for any variable of perceived physical self-esteem was seen, neither in boys nor girls. In general, all physical self-variables revealed non-linear trajectories across time, where the general trend was an increase during the younger ages followed by a decrease during older ages. At ages 12 and 15 years in boys and girls physical condition and physical strength as well as body attractiveness and physical strength, respectively, had the strongest correlations to physical self-esteem. At age 17 and 22 years sports competence had the strongest correlation to self-esteem in girls, while body attractiveness and physical strength had the strongest correlation to self-esteem in boys. Conclusion: An overall stability in physical self-esteem was found. However the impact of a sub-domain upon physical self-esteem vary during adolescence and early adulthood. Such information may be useful when creating physical activity programs that support and develop physical self-esteem.

  • Labor force diversity and firm survival
  • 2020
  • Ingår i: Journal of regional science. - : John Wiley & Sons. - 0022-4146 .- 1467-9787. ; 60:5, s. 903-928
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We analyze the influence that the diversity of individuals, both within a firm and in the region where the firm is located, has on firm survival. We estimate a hazard model using microdata for Swedish firms for the years 2002-2013. Results show that firm-specific diversity in education, age, and gender are positively associated with firm survival. However, firm-specific diversity by place of origin is negatively associated with firm survival. Yet the cultural diversity among the inhabitants in the region where the firm is located enhances firm survival. Magnitudes of the effects vary by region and industrial sector.

  • Labor force diversity and new firm formation
  • 2022
  • Ingår i: The annals of regional science. - : Springer. - 0570-1864 .- 1432-0592. ; 68, s. 9-28
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Many countries have experienced increases in the diversity of their labor forces. Our paper examines one such country—Sweden—and relates the diversity of the local labor force, in terms of demography, culture, education, occupation and industry, to new firm formation. We measure diversity using entropy measures that account for a wider range of differences than is typically used. Our empirical analysis finds a positive relationship between diversity of the labor force, in terms of demography, culture and education, and the rate of new firm formation. Our results add to the literature on the workings of agglomeration economies in urban growth through variations in human capital, information spillovers and innovation.

  • Efficient network interface architecture for network-on-chips
  • 2009
  • Ingår i: 2009 NORCHIP. - 9781424443109
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • In this paper, we present novel network interface architecture for on-chip networks to increase memory parallelism and to improve the resource utilization. The proposed architecture exploits AXI transaction based protocol to be compatible with existing IP cores. Experimental results with synthetic test case demonstrate that the proposed architecture outperforms the conventional architecture in term of latency.

  • Genetic Influences on Political Ideologies : Twin Analyses of 19 Measures of Political Ideologies from Five Democraciesand Genome-Wide Findings from Three Populations
  • 2014
  • Ingår i: Behavior Genetics. - : Springer Science and Business Media LLC. - 0001-8244 .- 1573-3297. ; 44:3, s. 282-294
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Almost 40 years ago, evidence from large studies of adult twins and their relatives suggested that between 30 and 60 % of the variance in social and political attitudes could be explained by genetic influences. However, these findings have not been widely accepted or incorporated into the dominant paradigms that explain the etiology of political ideology. This has been attributed in part to measurement and sample limitations, as well the relative absence of molecular genetic studies. Here we present results from original analyses of a combined sample of over 12,000 twins pairs, ascertained from nine different studies conducted in five democracies, sampled over the course of four decades. We provide evidence that genetic factors play a role in the formation of political ideology, regardless of how ideology is measured, the era, or the population sampled. The only exception is a question that explicitly uses the phrase “Left–Right”. We then present results from one of the first genome-wide association studies on political ideology using data from three samples: a 1990 Australian sample involving 6,894 individuals from 3,516 families; a 2008 Australian sample of 1,160 related individuals from 635 families and a 2010 Swedish sample involving 3,334 individuals from 2,607 families. No polymorphisms reached genome-wide significance in the meta-analysis. The combined evidence suggests that political ideology constitutes a fundamental aspect of one’s genetically informed psychological disposition, but as Fisher proposed long ago, genetic influences on complex traits will be composed of thousands of markers of very small effects and it will require extremely large samples to have enough power in order to identify specific polymorphisms related to complex social traits.

  • Antibodies against citrullinated vimentin in rheumatoid arthritis : Higher sensitivity and extended prognostic value concerning future radiographic progression as compared with antibodies against cyclic citrullinated peptides
  • 2008
  • Ingår i: Arthritis and Rheumatism. - : Wiley. - 0004-3591 .- 1529-0131. ; 58:1, s. 36-45
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • OBJECTIVE: The Sa autoantigen can be found in inflamed synovium of patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA), and at least part of the humoral RA-specific anti-Sa response is directed against citrullinated vimentin. This study was undertaken to evaluate the sensitivity, specificity, and prognostic value of determination of levels of antibodies against modified citrullinated vimentin (anti-MCV) as compared with antibodies against cyclic citrullinated peptides (anti-CCP) in an inception cohort of patients with early RA. METHODS: Clinical data, radiographs, and measurements of levels of anti-MCV and anti-CCP antibodies were obtained in 273 patients with early RA at baseline, after 3 months, and after 1, 2, 3, and 5 years. Autoantibodies were also analyzed in 100 healthy controls. RESULTS: Of the 273 patients, 193 (70.7%) were anti-MCV positive and 158 (57.9%) were anti-CCP positive at the time of diagnosis, with nearly equal specificities (95% and 96%, respectively). Forty (14.7%) were anti-MCV positive only, and 5 (1.8%) were anti-CCP positive only. Anti-MCV-positive and anti-MCV-negative patients had similar disease activity at baseline, but presence of anti-MCV was predictive of subsequent high disease activity and continued radiographic progression. Changes in anti-MCV level showed stronger correlation with changes in clinical parameters than did changes in anti-CCP level. The subgroup of patients who were anti-MCV positive and anti-CCP negative showed a higher rate of radiographic destruction than did patients who were negative for both anti-MCV and anti-CCP. CONCLUSION: These findings show that when patients with early RA are compared with healthy controls, analysis of anti-MCV yields greater sensitivity and unchanged specificity as compared with analysis of anti-CCP. Anti-MCV also appears to perform better than anti-CCP in identifying poor radiographic prognosis in patients with early RA.
