  • A MonoSLAM Approach to Lane Departure Warning System
  • 2014
  • Ingår i: 2014 IEEE/ASME International Conference on Advanced Intelligent Mechatronics (AIM 2014). - 9781479957378 ; , s. 640-645
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Lane Departure Warning (LDW) systems are one of the widely researched topics under Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), because they are seen as the most viable way to prevent the traffic accidents caused by involuntary lane departures from happening. Various methods and algorithms used for lane tracking to be used in LDW in the literature; however, most of them only track the lanes or the position of the vehicle inside the lane. This article introduces MonoSLAM based method for LDW design, assuming that the camera is moving in a previously unknown scene. While applying this method, a constant lateral velocity model for the vehicle is used, which assumes that the vehicle is exposed to undetermined Gaussian lateral accelerations. As the first output, the localization of the vehicle on the road is achieved. Moreover, the method is applied with a low cost webcam attached on a vehicle. Five control points for each lane is used to track the lanes and these control points are modelled as if they have a constant position. Detection is made with steerable filters exploiting the state covariance from EKF to make detection more robust. In addition to this, off-line experimental results are given for 200 frames. Results of lane slope on image plane compared with ground truth marked manually for performance benchmarking and localization estimation of a scenario similar to loop closure test is given.

  • Strain Rate Effects on Fracture Behavior of Austempered Ductile Irons
  • 2018
  • Ingår i: AIP Conference Proceedings. - : Author(s). - 1551-7616 .- 0094-243X. ; 1979
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • In this work, the mechanical behavior of the austempered ductile iron (ADI) JS/1050-6 was investigated, with particular attention to the strain rate effects on the material ductility. Tensile tests at different strain rates (up to 103 s(-1)) and temperatures (ranging from 213 to 343 K) were performed. Samples with different geometries, smooth and round notched bars, were used to evaluate the effect of the stress triaxiality level on the strain at fracture. For each configuration, the evolution paths of stress and strain were extracted in the point where failure is expected performing numerical analyses at the continuum scale. Stress histories were used as input in a micromechanics analysis aimed to analyze the heterogeneous state of stress, determined by the presence of the graphite nuclei, under the different loading conditions obtained in the experiments. The main result is that, under dynamic conditions, the stress field redistribution, due to the adiabatic condition, postpones the failure occurrence, regardless temperature and strain rate effects on the matrix ductility.

  • Biogas enterprises : A chance or a challenge for rural development?
  • 2018
  • Ingår i: Challenged Ruralities. - Copenhagen : University of Copenhagen – Department of Geosciences and Natural Resource Management.
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This paper addresses the question whether biogas plants (businesses based on renewable energy) often marketed as a great opportunity for rural development can at the same time pose a hidden challenge. Departing from the concept of embeddedness of enterprises in the local environment, our objective is realized with the help of two models of biogas plants. In the first model, biogas plants operate as an integral part of agricultural farms (biogas on-farm model); in the second model, they operate as independent companies established through investments by external entrepreneurs (biogas off-farm model). The two models have proven to affect the economies of particular biogas enterprises very differently. In the first model, the support of existing agricultural farms is of great importance as those usually are important for local stakeholders. In the second model, biogas plants that emerge as new external investments must build interactions with local entities from scratch. From an economic point of view, the lack of functioning mechanisms in this sense may influence further directions of development for many rural areas traditionally associated with agriculture.
