- Production control systems must have accurate models for the prediction of tundish temperature to meet increasing demands on control and production rate in continuous casting. The models have to be simple. They must also include the effect of variations in steel flow and mixing, including shortcut flows from the inlet stream towards the outlet end. To meet this demand, a tank in series model was designed, which also included the effect of dynamic shortcut flows. The model has been verified by data from experiments with chemical tracers in a 14 tonne straight tundish. The tracers have been added both in the ladle and close to the inlet end in the tundish and the response in the steel entering the mould has been studied The data seem to confirm that there is a different distribution of the steel flow in the period shortly after the ladle change. The difference could be explained either as shortcut flows caused by buoyancy or by increased stirring. It is possible to choose a configuration of tanks that allows simulation of both the transient behaviour at ladle change and the steady state conditions during the main part of the casting by changing the adjustable parameters for the shortcut flow without changing the configuration of tanks.

Arrival Flight Efficiency in Numbers: What New the Covid-19 Crisis is Bringing to the Picture?

- Covid-19 pandemic affected aviation severely, resulting in unprecedented reduction of air traffic. While aviationis slowly re-gaining traffic volumes, we use the opportunity to study the arrival performance in the Terminal Maneuvering Area (TMA) in non-congested scenarios. Applying flight efficiency and environmental performance indicators (PIs) to the historical data of arrivals to Stockholm Arlanda airport, we discover noticeable inefficiencies, despite significant reduction of traffic intensity. We analyse the impact of such factors as weather and traffic intensity on arrival efficiency in isolated scenarios when only one factor dominates. Our analysis uncovers that weather has a stronger influence than congestion on vertical efficiency, while congestion affects both, but mostly lateral efficiency.

- Molecular and brain regional/network-wise pathophysiological changes at preclinical stages of Alzheimer's disease (AD) have primarily been found through knowledge-based studies conducted in late-stage mild cognitive impairment/dementia populations. However, such an approach may compromise the objective of identifying the earliest spatial-temporal pathophysiological processes. We investigated 261 individuals with subjective memory complaints, a condition at increased risk of AD, to test a whole-brain, non-a-priori method based on partial least squares in unraveling the association between plasma A beta 42/A beta 40 ratio and an extensive set of brain regions characterized through molecular imaging of A beta accumulation and cortical metabolism. Significant associations were mapped onto large-scale networks, identified through an atlas and by knowledge, to elaborate on the reliability of the results. Plasma A beta 42/beta 40 ratio was associated with A beta-PET uptake (but not FDG-PET) in regions generally investigated in preclinical AD such as those belonging to the default mode network, but also in regions/networks normally not accounted including the central executive and salience networks which likely have a selective vulnerability to incipient A beta accumulation. The present whole-brain approach is promising to investigate early pathophysiological changes of AD to fully capture the complexity of the disease, which is essential to develop timely screening, detection, diagnostic, and therapeutic interventions. - TWIP (TWinning Induced Plasticity) steels are attracting a lot of attention due to their combination of strength and ductility. In a previous work [1] (B. Lindahl, M. Selleby, Calphad 43 (2013) 86-93) a thermodynamic assessment of the Al-Fe-Mn system, which forms the basis of TWIP steels, was presented. The previous assessment treated the A2/B2 order-disorder transformation in the bcc phase using a two-sublattice model. In the present work a four-sublattice model has been used in order to also be able to describe the transition into the ordered DO3 compound that occurs at lower temperatures. pair interaction energies for the Fe-Mn system are evaluated which prove crucial to the extrapolations into the Al-Fe-Mn system. Along with this various aspects of modeling chemical ordering using the Calphad approach are discussed. Equations for determining the ternary compound energies from binary pair interactions energies are presented and equations for determining the parameter values from the ordered parameters are derived.
