  • The Gap between Higher Education and the Software Industry - A Case Study on Technology Differences
  • 2023
  • Ingår i: ACM International Conference Proceeding Series. - : Association for Computing Machinery (ACM). - 9781450399562 ; , s. 11-21
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We see an explosive global labour demand in the Software Industry, and higher education institutions play a crucial role in supplying the industry with professionals with relevant education. Existing literature identifies a gap between what software engineering education teaches students and what the software industry demands. Using our open-sourced Job Market AnalyseR (JMAR) text-analysis tool, we compared keywords from higher education course syllabi and job posts to investigate the knowledge gap from a technology-focused departure point. We present a trend analysis of technology in job posts over the past six years in Sweden. We found that demand for cloud and automation technology such as Kubernetes and Docker is rising in job ads but not that much in higher education syllabi. The language used in higher education syllabi and job ads differs where the former emphasizes concepts and the latter technologies more heavily. We discuss possible remedies to bridge this mismatch to draw further conclusions in future work, including calibrating JMAR to other industry-relevant aspects, including soft skills, software concepts, or new demographics.

  • Search for pair-produced scalar and vector leptoquarks decaying into third-generation quarks and first- or second-generation leptons in pp collisions with the ATLAS detector
  • 2023
  • Ingår i: Journal of High Energy Physics. - : Springer Nature. - 1029-8479 .- 1126-6708. ; 2023:6
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • A search for pair-produced scalar and vector leptoquarks decaying into quarks and leptons of different generations is presented. It uses the full LHC Run 2 (2015–2018) data set of 139 fb−1 collected with the ATLAS detector in proton–proton collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of s = 13 TeV. Scalar leptoquarks with charge −(1/3)e as well as scalar and vector leptoquarks with charge +(2/3)e are considered. All possible decays of the pair-produced leptoquarks into quarks of the third generation (t, b) and charged or neutral leptons of the first or second generation (e, μ, ν) with exactly one electron or muon in the final state are investigated. No significant deviations from the Standard Model expectation are observed. Upper limits on the production cross-section are provided for eight models as a function of the leptoquark mass and the branching ratio of the leptoquark into the charged or neutral lepton. In addition, lower limits on the leptoquark masses are derived for all models across a range of branching ratios. Two of these models have the goal of providing an explanation for the recent B-anomalies. In both models, a vector leptoquark decays into charged and neutral leptons of the second generation with a similar branching fraction. Lower limits of 1980 GeV and 1710 GeV are set on the leptoquark mass for these two models. [Figure not available: see fulltext.] © 2023, The Author(s).

  • A numerical study of sound propagation over urban canyons.
  • 2008
  • Ingår i: Proceedings of Meetings on Acoustics. - : ASA. - 1939-800X. ; 4
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Because quiet areas in dense urban environments are important, there is high interest in propagation to areas shielded from direct road traffic noise. Sound levels in shielded areas are strongly influenced by distant sources, so intermediate propagation factors such as metrology, screening, and intermediate canyons must therefore be addressed in a realistic propagation model. A numerical investigation of sound propagation across the open tops of intermediate urban canyons has been performed, using the Parabolic Equation and Equivalent Sources methods. Results have been collected for various canyon geometries, and the influence of multiple canyons, canyon/rooftop absorption, variable rooftop height, and correlated versus uncorrelated source models has been investigated. By characterizing the "insertion loss" of canyons intermediate to the source and receiver, the influence of these intermediate canyons could be addressed simply, without the overhead of a detailed numerical calculation.
