  • Neutron position sensitive detectors for the ESS
  • 2014
  • Ingår i: Proceedings of Science. - : Proceedings of Science (PoS). ; Vertex2014, s. 029-029
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The European Spallation Source (ESS) in Lund, Sweden will become the world's leading neutron source for the study of materials. It will be a long pulse source, with an average beam power of 5 MW delivered to the target station. The ESS is in the construction phase, which started in 2013 with the completion of the Technical Design Report (TDR). The instruments are being selected from conceptual proposals submitted by groups from around Europe. These instruments present numerous challenges for detector technology in the absence of the availability of Helium-3, which is the default choice for detectors for instruments built until today and due to the extreme rates expected across the ESS instrument suite. Additionally a new generation of source requires a new generation of detector technologies to fully exploit the opportunities that this source provides. To meet this challenge at a green-field site, the detectors will be sourced from partners across Europe through numerous in-kind arrangements; a process that is somewhat novel for the neutron scattering community. This contribution presents briefly the current status of detectors for the ESS, and outlines the timeline to completion. For a conjectured instrument suite based upon instruments recommended for construction, a recently updated snapshot of the current expected detector requirements is presented. A strategy outline as to how these requirements might be tackled by novel detector developments is shown. In terms of future developments for the neutron community, synergies should be sought with other disciples, as recognized by various recent initiatives in Europe, in the context of the fundamentally multi-disciplinary nature of detectors. This strategy has at its basis the in-kind and collaborative partnerships necessary to be able to produce optimally performant detectors that allow the ESS instruments to be world-leading. This foresees and encourages a high level of collaboration and interdependence at its core, and rather than each group being all-rounders in every technology, the further development of centres of excellence across Europe for particular technologies and niches.

  • Conducting Polymer Nanowires and Nanodots Made with Soft Lithography
  • 2002
  • Ingår i: Nano letters (Print). - : American Chemical Society (ACS). - 1530-6984 .- 1530-6992. ; 2:12, s. 1373-1377
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The conducting polymer poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene) doped with poly(4-styrenesulfonate) (PEDOT-PSS) was patterned by micromolding in capillaries (MIMIC), in the form of nanowires on a glass or a Si wafer. The periods of the molded nanowires were 833 or 278 nm. By applying force on top of the stamp during MIMIC, the height of these nanowires could be changed. An alternative method of preparing structured surfaces is the liquid embossing technique, used to pattern polymers deposited from dispersion. Nanowires (278 nm) and 2-D nanodots on semiconducting polymer (poly(3-(2'-methoxy-5'-octyphenyl) thiophene)) POMeOPT were also achieved by another soft lithography technique-soft-embossing. The possibility to pattern both semiconducting and metallic conjugated polymers from aqueous solutions or organic solvents on a submicron level makes it possible to use these materials in flexible optoelectronic devices where light propagation and electronic paths are defined by patterning.

  • Microstructure of selective laser melted AlSi10Mg alloy
  • 2019
  • Ingår i: Materials & design. - : Elsevier BV. - 0264-1275 .- 1873-4197. ; 168
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The influence of laser power during selective laser melting (SLM) on the grain morphology and texture component in AlSi10Mg alloy has been investigated, using electron backscattered diffraction (EBSD). Both equiaxed and columnar grainswere observed. The formation of equiaxed grainswas attributed to the huge thermal gradient on the border of melt pool and the columnar to equiaxed transition (CET) occurred in front of the columnar grains. The grain size of lowlaser power samplewas found smaller than that of higher ones. A fine pseudoeutectic structure, in which Si existed as fibrous, was observed because of the high cooling rate. This paper, from a new angle, explained the formations of three different zones across the melt pool, which were differentiated by the morphology of Si phase. The three zones correspond to the three temperature zones, whichwere divided by liquidus and solidus temperature, during the heating by laser beam. The coarse zones are formed by reheating the basic metal to semi-solid state when the temperature is lower than the liquidus temperature but higher than the solidus temperature.

  • 3D Integration of Microcombs
  • 2023
  • Ingår i: 2023 Conference on Lasers and Electro-Optics Europe and European Quantum Electronics Conference, CLEO/Europe-EQEC 2023.
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Microcombs based on silicon nitride are a promising technology in applications such as sensing, metrology and telecommunication [1]. These applications often require to combine a nonlinear waveguide with a linear integrated processor on the same chip to perform functionalities such as splitting, demultiplexing, and optical buffering. However, there is a fundamental performance tradeoff between linear and nonlinear waveguides. For microcomb generation, thick waveguide cores are necessary to achieve the desired anomalous dispersion, while for linear operation a thin core improves the loss of a single mode (SM) waveguide [2]. The dissimilar requirements in waveguide thickness brings challenges for planar integrated technologies. Here, we propose and demonstrate wafer-level three-dimensional integration of microcombs using two different Si3N4 core thicknesses: a thick core featuring dispersion-engineered microcombs and a thinner core for linear processing (see Fig. 1a). This technology breaks off the fundamental tradeoff between loss and confinement in thick waveguides and opens the door to combine high-performance microcombs with ultra-low-loss silicon nitride waveguide technology [3]. We demonstrate this approach by efficiently coupling a microcomb between two layers of Si3N4 and demultiplexing a few lines with an arrayed waveguide grating (AWG) (Fig 1b).

  • Effects of dyslexia on postural control in adults.
  • 2010
  • Ingår i: Dyslexia. - : Wiley. - 1076-9242 .- 1099-0909. ; 16, s. 162-174
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Dyslexia has been shown to affect postural control. The aim of the present study was to investigate the difference in postural stability measured as torque variance in an adult dyslexic group (n=14, determined using the Adult Dyslexia Checklist (ADCL) and nonsense word repetition test) and an adult non-dyslexic group (n=39) on a firm surface and on a foam block and with eyes open and eyes closed. Another aim was to investigate the correlation between ADCL scores and postural stability.Findings showed that ADCL scores correlated with torque variance in the anteroposterior direction on foam with eyes closed (p=0.001) and in the lateral direction on the foam surface with eyes closed (p=0.040) and open (p=0.010). General Linear Model analysis showed that high dyslexia scores were associated with increased torque variance (p<0.001). However, we found no significant difference between dyslexics and non-dyslexics, though there were indications of larger torque variance in the dyslexics. The findings suggest that adults with high dyslexic ADCL scores may experience sub-clinical balance deficits. Hence, assessing motor ability and postural control in those with high ADCL scores is motivated. Copyright (c) 2010 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.
