  • UniCarbKB: Putting the pieces together for glycomics research
  • 2011
  • Ingår i: Proteomics. - : Wiley. - 1615-9853. ; 11:21, s. 4117-4121
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Despite the success of several international initiatives the glycosciences still lack a managed infrastructure that contributes to the advancement of research through the provision of comprehensive structural and experimental glycan data collections. UniCarbKB is an initiative that aims to promote the creation of an online information storage and search platform for glycomics and glycobiology research. The knowledgebase will offer a freely accessible and information-rich resource supported by querying interfaces, annotation technologies and the adoption of common standards to integrate structural, experimental and functional data. The UniCarbKB framework endeavors to support the growth of glycobioinformatics and the dissemination of knowledge through the provision of an open and unified portal to encourage the sharing of data. In order to achieve this, the framework is committed to the development of tools and procedures that support data annotation, and expanding interoperability through cross-referencing of existing databases. • Marketing with working consumers : The case of a carmaker and its brand community
  • 2015
  • Ingår i: Organization. - : Sage Publications. - 1350-5084 .- 1461-7323. ; 22:5, s. 682-701
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Consumers have entered the world of contemporary organizations. They are even being reconsidered as workers. This article contributes to the body of literature on this theme by focusing on collaborative marketing, which is the organization of marketing work conducted jointly by marketing professionals and consumers. This article draws on the ethnographic study of a collaborative marketing programme organized by the carmaker Alfa Romeo that engaged Alfisti, the enthusiastic consumers of the Alfa Romeo brand. Previous research has analysed work carried out by consumers. This article instead analyses the organization of consumer work and what marketing professionals do to integrate consumer work into their marketing work. This article concludes that marketing professionals control working consumers as if they were wage labourers, which most consumers do not appreciate. Conversely, working consumers compel marketers to engage in social and emotional labour, which marketers are not accustomed to and try to limit.

  • Unilateral denervation of the rat urinary bladder and reinnervation: a predominance for ipsilateral changes
  • 1986
  • Ingår i: Acta Physiologica Scandinavica. - 0001-6772. ; 127:2, s. 223-231
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Unilateral removal of the pelvic ganglion affected the bladder-half on the denervated side more profoundly than that on the non-denervated side. At an early stage (3-7 days) the former was heavier, had a lower choline acetyltransferase activity, developed less tension to nerve stimulation and, in course of time, became more sensitized to methacholine in vitro than the latter. At a late stage (30-60 days) the nerve-evoked contractile responses on the denervated side had increased, which was almost wholly attributed to the atropine-sensitive part of the contraction, but the recovery was not complete. On the non-denervated side the nerve-evoked responses were not significantly changed. It was calculated that in the normally innervated bladders 25-30% of the cholinergic nerves of each half were of contralateral origin. The figure was lower (18%) for the nerves mediating the atropine-resistant response.

  • Managing chronic whiplash associated pain with a combination of low-dose opioid (remifentanil) and NMDA-antagonist (ketamine)
  • 2007
  • Ingår i: European Journal of Pain. - : Wiley. - 1090-3801 .- 1532-2149. ; 11:7, s. 719-732
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The aim was to investigate the efficacy of a combination of low-dose remifentanil (REMI) and ketamine (KET) compared to the single drugs and placebo (P) on whiplash associated pain (WAD) in a double-blind, randomized, placebo-controlled, cross-over study. Twenty patients with chronic (>1 year) WAD were included. Four different drug combinations were tested in four sessions: placebo/placebo (P/P), placebo/remifentanil (P/REMI), ketamine/placebo (KET/P) and ketamine/remifentanil (KET/REMI). Target concentrations were 1 and 2 ng/ml (stepwise) for remifentanil and 100 ng/ml for ketamine. Habitual pain intensity was assessed on a visual analogue scale (VAS). Experimental pain was assessed with electrical stimulation (single and repeated) of tibialis anterior (TA) muscle, pressure pain algometry applied over infraspinatus (IS) and TA muscles and VAS scores after intramuscular hypertonic saline infusion in TA. KET/REMI significantly reduced habitual pain. KET/REMI infused at low REMI target concentration (1 ng/ml) significantly elevated electrical intramuscular pain thresholds (single and repeated). Pain thresholds to electrical stimulation were similarly increased by both P/REMI and KET/REMI at 2 ng/ml target concentration. Pressure pain thresholds were increased by both KET/REMI and P/REMI. VAS-scores after intramuscular saline were also similarly decreased by both REMI combinations. Seven out of 20 subjects were non-responders (<50% pain relief). No correlation was found between effects on spontaneous pain and experimental pain. KET/REMI showed an analgesic effect on habitual pain. Experimental pain was attenuated by both combinations containing the opioid, however, KET seemed to enhance the effect of REMI on electrical pain thresholds when a low REMI target concentration was used.

  • Evaluation of HPV Genotyping Assays for Archival Clinical Samples
  • 2015
  • Ingår i: Journal of Molecular Diagnostics. - New York, USA : Elsevier. - 1525-1578 .- 1943-7811. ; 17:3, s. 293-301
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Human papillomavirus (HPV) testing and genotyping of FFPE tissue samples is important in epidemiological investigations. Here, we compare four different HPV genotyping methods for use in FFPE clinical samples. Comparative testing was performed on 99 samples with a clinical suspicion of HPV. Specimens were analyzed with Anyplex II HPV28 detecting 28 genotypes using real-time PCR and melting curve analysis, CLART HPV2 detecting 35 genotypes using PCR and microarray detection, and MGP5+/6+ consensus primer system together with pyrosequencing. Results were compared to a real-time PCR reference protocol detecting 14 genotypes. In total, 68% of the samples were positive for an HPV genotype using the reference protocol and MGP5+/6+ primer system. Anyplex II HPV28 analysis and CLART HPV2 had 82% and 72% positive samples, respectively. All four methods showed good agreement when comparing the 14 genotypes included in the reference protocol. When evaluating all genotypes, the Anyplex II HPV28 assay and the CLART assay changed the status of the sample (individually or together) from negative with respect to the reference protocol to positive for either a Group 1 (n = 4) or Group 2 (n = 6) genotype. We conclude from this study that for an extended genotyping approach with a high sensitivity for FFPE specimens, both the Anyplex II HPV28 and CLART HPV2 assays are suitable alternatives despite minor intra-assay differences.

  • Life-style and self-rated global health in Sweden : A prospective analysis spanning three decades
  • 2013
  • Ingår i: Preventive Medicine. - : Elsevier BV. - 0091-7435 .- 1096-0260. ; 57:6, s. 802-806
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Objective. To study the relations between lifestyle factors (smoking, drinking, exercise, vegetable consumption, social relations) and global self-rated health in the adult Swedish population. Method. The data come from the Swedish Level of Living Survey, a face-to-face panel study. The analysis follows the respondents with good health in 1991 (N = 4035) and uses multivariate logistic regression to assess the relations between lifestyle factors in 1991 and health in 2000 and 2010. Results. Baseline (1991) exercise, social support, smoking and vegetable consumption are associated with health in 2000 and/or 2010.2000: Weekly exercise in 1991 increases the probability of good health by 6 percentage points [95% CI: 1-10] compared to no exercise, and smoking 10 or more cigarettes a day decreases the probability of good health by 5 percentage points [95% CI 1-8]. Lacking social support decreases the probability of good health by 17 percentage points (95% CI: 9-25). 2010: Smoking 10 or more cigarettes a day decreases the probability of good health by 10 percentage points [95% CI 5-15], and eating vegetables every day increases the probability of good health by 4 percentage points [95% CI 0.2-7]. Conclusions. Exercise, smoking, social support and vegetable consumption are related to self-rated health 2000 and/or 2010.

  • Rule-Based Control of Series HEVs Derived from Deterministic Dynamic Programming
  • 2008
  • Rapport (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We present a model of a series HEV including resistive losses in the energy storage and varying efficiency of the combustion engine and generator. An optimal control problem minimizing fuel consumption is solved using the model and deterministic dynamic programming. It is evaluated on several standard city bus driving cycles and the solutions are analyzed to extract rules useful for real-time controlling. The resulting real-time strategy is compared to the optimal control using simulations. The strategy has a threshold value determining when to switch off the generator. This threshold value has a driving cycle dependent optimum giving the minimum increase in fuel consumption compared to the optimal control, and the optimal value can thus be chosen based on driving cycle characteristics. We see that the optimal value is related to the mean power demand of the driving cycle. The proposed real-time strategy performs well, and a minimum increase of 5 % can be achieved even on a driving cycle not used for rule extraction.

  • Solving the radiative transfer equation with a mathematical particle method
  • 2015
  • Ingår i: Optics Letters. - : Optics Info Base, Optical Society of America. - 0146-9592 .- 1539-4794. ; 40:18, s. 4325-4328
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We solve the radiative transfer equation (RTE) using a recently proposed mathematical particle method, originally developed for solving general functional equations. We show that, in the case of the RTE, it gives several advantages, such as handling arbitrary boundary conditions and phase functions and avoiding numerical instability in strongly forward-scattering media. We also solve the RTE, including fluorescence, and an example is shown with a fluorescence cascade where light is absorbed and emitted in several steps. We show that the evaluated particle method is straightforward to implement, which is in contrast with many traditional RTE solvers, but a potential drawback is the tuning of the method parameters.

  • Unemployment, Employment Commitment and Well-being : The Psychosocial Meaning of (Un)employment among Women and Men
  • 1999
  • Doktorsavhandling (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • The general aim of this thesis is to study the psychosocial meaning of (un)employment among women and men. This is mainly done by analysing employment commitment, or non-financial employment motivation, and mental well-being among a random sample of 3 500 Swedes that were interviewed in the beginning of 1996, when all were unemployed, and then again in the end of 1997, when the labour market situation varied. In general, the results from this study support the unemployment studies that have emphasised the importance of employment for the possibility to create and maintain a satisfactory life situation.
