  • Pollination of the Lady's slipper orchid (Cypripedium calceolus) in Scandinavia - taxonomic and conservational aspects
  • 2009
  • Ingår i: Nordic Journal of Botany. - : Wiley. - 0107-055X .- 1756-1051. ; 27:4, s. 266-273
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The Lady's slipper orchid Cypripedium calceolus L. is considered one of the most beautiful orchids of Europe. Consequently, the species has suffered from over-collecting and is now critically endangered in many countries. Although pollination success is suspected to influence the long-term survival of Cypripedium calceolus, relatively little is known about the identity of its pollinators in mainland Sweden - a region that comprises the largest European populations. In order to identify which species pollinate eight representative populations in mainland Sweden, we observed and sampled visitors to flowers using a standardized protocol. Specimens were identified and any pollen smear found on their body was examined for the presence of Cypripedium pollen. Nine species were recognized as effective pollen vectors (Andrena cineraria, A. carantonica, A. haemorrohoa, A. helvola, A. nigroaenea, A. praecox, Colletes cunicularius, Lasioglossum fratellum and L. fulvicorne), four of them for the first time in Scandinavia. This is the first time that a species of Colletes is reported to carry pollen of Cypripedium in this region. All but one specimens were females. Our results suggest a taxonomically heterogeneous pollinator fauna for Cypripedium calceolus and are discussed in light of the management of this species.

  • Dialogical Family Guidance (dfg)-Development and implementation of an intervention for families with a child with neurodevelopmental disorders
  • 2021
  • Ingår i: Nursing Open. - : Wiley. - 2054-1058. ; 8:1, s. 17-28
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Aim: To describe the development and implementation of a Dialogical Family Guidance (DFG) intervention, aimed at families with a child with neurodevelopmental disorders (NDD). Design: The DFG components are presented and the content of a DFG training course. Professionals' experiences after the DFG training were evaluated. Methods: Dialogical Family Guidance development phases and implementation process are examined. The Revised Standards for Quality Improvement Reporting Excellence checklist (SQUIRE 2.0) was used to provide a framework for reporting new knowledge. Results: The DFG training course seemed to increase possibilities of a more independent role as a nurse to deliver the DFG family intervention. The project showed that the use of dialogue can be difficult for some professionals. Analysis of the questionnaire completed after DFG training reported a high level of satisfaction. DFG training offered a new approach to deliver knowledge and understanding to families using dialogue, including tailored psychoeducation and emotional and practical guidance.

  • Health, functionality, and social support in families with a child with a neurodevelopmental disorder - a pilot study
  • 2019
  • Ingår i: Neuropsychiatric Disease and Treatment. - 1178-2021. ; 15, s. 1151-1161
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Introduction: Several studies have reported that having a child with a neurodevelopmental disorder (NDD) increases parental stress and that parental psychosocial functioning influences child's development and behavior. It is unclear how parents of children with NDD experience family functionality, family health and receive support and if there are differences between experiences of mothers and fathers. Methods: Families with children referred to a neurocognitive unit were invited to the study. A modified version of the FAmily Functionality, HEalth, and Social support (FAFHES) questionnaire was used. Open-ended questions were also included. Results: Parents rated their social support lower than their family functionality and family health. Family functionality correlated positively with family health. No significant differences were found between mothers' and fathers' experiences. A three-months test-retest using the FAFHES showed no significant change in ratings of family functionality, family health, and social support. Conclusions: Family functionality was connected to family health in families with a child with NDD. Mothers and fathers experienced their family health, family functionality, and received social support in similar ways.

  • Randomized Clinical Trial Comparing Dialogical Family Guidance with Ordinary Clinical Treatment for Families with a Child with Neurodevelopmental Disorders
  • 2022
  • Ingår i: Advances in Neurodevelopmental Disorders. - : Springer Science and Business Media LLC. - 2366-7532 .- 2366-7540. ; 6:1, s. 36-52
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Objectives Previous studies have highlighted the need to offer targeted interventions to strengthen the wellbeing of family members in families with children with neurodevelopmental disorders (NDD). Interventions for this target group require research and development. The purpose of this study was to test a new family intervention: Dialogical Family Guidance (DFG). Methods Families of children with NDD were randomized into an intervention group that was delivered DFG and a comparison group provided with ordinary clinical treatment. The Family Functioning, Family Health and Social Support (FAFHES) and the DFG instrument were used to collect data at baseline and after 3 months. Repeated measure analysis of variance (ANOVA) was used as an analytical strategy. Results There was a significant within-subjects effect of time on family health and social support, indicating that family health and social support increased in both groups over time. There was also a significant between-subjects effect of group and interaction between time and group on social support, indicating that social support increased more in the intervention group than in the control group. Managing in daily life and the relationship between parents were associated with family functioning and family health. Conclusion DFG can strengthen parental experiences of social support. Managing in daily life, relationship between parents, practical guidance, psychoeducation, dialogue, and receiving positive feedback on parenting were strengthening factors during DFG. However, the results of this study must be considered as only preliminary, as they relate only to parental perceptions of the intervention effects.

  • Collaboration Patterns in Distributed Software Development Projects
  • 2012
  • Ingår i: Proceedings - International Conference on Software Engineering. ; , s. 1235-1244
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The need for educating future software engineers in the field of global software engineering is recognized by many educational institutions. In this paper we outline the characteristics of an existing global software development course run over a period of nine years, and present a flexible project framework for conducting student projects in a distributed environment. Based on data collected from fourteen distributed student projects, a set of collaboration patterns is identified and their causes and implications described. Collaboration patterns are a result of the analysis of collaboration links within distributed student teams, and can assist teachers in better understanding of the dynamics found in distributed projects.

  • Creating ultrathin nanoscopic collagen matrices for biological and biotechnological applications
  • 2007
  • Ingår i: Small. - : Wiley. - 1613-6810 .- 1613-6829. ; 3:6, s. 956-963
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The biofunctionalization of materials creates interfaces on which proteins, cells, or tissues can fulfill native or desired tasks. Here we report how to control the assembly of type I collagen into well-defined nanoscopic matrices of different patterns. Collagen fibrils in these ultrathin (approximately 3 nm) matrices maintained their native structure as observed in vivo. This opens up the possibility to create programmable biofunctionalized matrices using collagen-binding proteins or proteins fused with collagen-binding domains. Applied to eukaryotic cells, these nanostructured matrices can direct cellular processes such as adhesion, orientation and migration.

  • Estimating Uncertainty in Deep Learning for Reporting Confidence : An Application on Cell Type Prediction in Testes Based on Proteomics
  • 2020
  • Ingår i: Advances In Intelligent Data Analysis XVIII, IDA 2020. - Cham : Springer Nature. - 9783030445843 - 9783030445836 ; , s. 223-234
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Multi-label classification in deep learning is a practical yet challenging task, because class overlaps in the feature space means that each instance is associated with multiple class labels. This requires a prediction of more than one class category for each input instance. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first deep learning study which quantifies uncertainty and model interpretability in multi-label classification; as well as applying it to the problem of recognising proteins expressed in cell types in testes based on immunohistochemically stained images. Multi-label classification is achieved by thresholding the class probabilities, with the optimal thresholds adaptively determined by a grid search scheme based on Matthews correlation coefficients. We adopt MC-Dropweights to approximate Bayesian Inference in multi-label classification to evaluate the usefulness of estimating uncertainty with predictive score to avoid overconfident, incorrect predictions in decision making. Our experimental results show that the MC-Dropweights visibly improve the performance to estimate uncertainty compared to state of the art approaches.
