  • Occupational Pensions and Unemployment Benefits in Sweden
  • 2020
  • Ingår i: International Journal of Comparative Labour Law and Industrial Relations. - 0952-617X .- 1875-838X. ; 36:3, s. 339-366
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This article focuses on two Swedish benefits: occupational pensions and unemployment benefits. Both have undergone interesting developments recently, partly relating to changes in the public social security system, partly to changes in the labour market. These changes have led the social partners at sectoral level to decide on different priorities when negotiating collective agreements or offering unilateral benefits to their members. The overarching aim of the article is to illustrate and explain the increasing activity at sectoral level regarding occupational pensions and unemployment benefits. However, there are changes in the labour market that the social partners have not managed to address, or that it might not even be their role to address. When a significant proportion of welfare benefits derive from collective agreements and membership of private organizations, this has implications for atypical and self-employed workers, that are further elaborated in the article.

  • Tjänstepensionen möter EU-rätten : Om relationen mellan svenska kollektivavtal och den inre marknaden
  • 2018
  • Doktorsavhandling (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    •  The occupational pension constitutes an important part of the total pension for most employees in Sweden. The large part of the occupational pension plans are decided through collective agreement on confederate level and the social partners are given a large scope regarding contributions, requirements and administration. The main focus of the thesis regards the relation between the Swedish collectively bargained, occupational pension and EU internal market law. The aim is to describe how they interrelate and identify tensions between the two. Before that, the Swedish occupational pension is examined. First, a historical account is given regarding both the occupational and the public pension. Thereafter, the occupational pension’s modern structure is analysed, set out from the pension plan for white collar workers in the private sector. The occupational pension then serves as the basis for the analysis of the EU internal market law. This part contains one chapter on competition law and collective agreements, one chapter on the free movement of financial services and one chapter on the free movement of workers and occupational pension rights. To conclude, the thesis connects to overarching questions regarding the scope for different welfare solutions within the EU.

  • Hepatocyte growth factor in patients with coronary artery disease and its relation to periodontal condition
  • 2012
  • Ingår i: Results in Immunology. - : Elsevier BV. - 2211-2839. ; 2, s. 7-12
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Hepatocyte growth factor (HGF) is an angiogenic, cardioprotective factor important for tissue and vascular repair. High levels of HGF are associated with chronic inflammatory diseases, such as coronary artery disease (CAD) and periodontitis, and are suggested as a marker of the ongoing atherosclerotic event in patients with CAD. Periodontal disease is more prevalent among patients with CAD than among healthy people. Recent studies indicate a reduced biological activity of HGF in different chronic inflammatory conditions. Biologically active HGF has high affinity to heparan sulfate proteoglycan (HSPG) on cell-membrane and extracellular matrix. The aim of the study was to investigate the serum concentration and the biological activity of HGF with ELISA and surface plasmon resonance (SPR), respectively, before and at various time points after percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) in patients with CAD, and to examine the relationship with periodontal condition. The periodontal status of the CAD patients was examined, and the presence of P. gingivalis in periodontal pockets was analyzed with PCR. The HGF concentration was significantly higher, at all time-points, in patients with CAD compared to the age-matched controls (P< 0.001), but was independent of periodontal status. The HGF concentration and the affinity to HSPG adversely fluctuated over time, and the biological activity increased one month after intervention in patients without periodontitis. We conclude that elevated concentration of HGF but with reduced biological activity might indicate a chronic inflammatory profile in patients with CAD and periodontitis.
