  • Ab initio calculations of the hyperfine structure of zinc and evaluation of the nuclear quadrupole moment Q(Zn-67)
  • 2018
  • Ingår i: Physical Review A: covering atomic, molecular, and optical physics and quantum information. - : American Physical Society. - 2469-9926 .- 2469-9934. ; 97:6
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The relativistic multiconfiguration Dirac-Hartree-Fock and the nonrelativistic multiconfiguration Hartree-Fock methods have been employed to calculate the magnetic dipole and electric quadrupole hyperfine structure constants of zinc. The calculated electric field gradients for the 4s4p P-3(1)degrees and 4s4p P-3(2)degrees states, together with experimental values of the electric quadrupole hyperfine structure constants, made it possible to extract a nuclear electric quadrupole moment Q((67) Zn) = 0.122(10) b. The error bar was evaluated in a quasistatistical approach-the calculations were carried out with 11 different methods, and then the error bar was estimated from the differences between the results obtained with those methods.

  • Relativistically intense XUV radiation from laser-illuminated near-critical plasmas
  • 2018
  • Ingår i: Physical Review A. - 2469-9934 .- 2469-9926. ; 98:2
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Pulses of extreme ultraviolet (XUV) light, with wavelengths between 10 and 100nm, can be used to image and excite ultrafast phenomena such as the motion of atomic electrons. Here we show that the illumination of plasma with near-critical electron density may be used as a source of relativistically intense XUV radiation, providing the means for novel XUV-pump-XUV-probe experiments in the nonlinear regime. We describe how the optimal regime may be reached by tailoring the laser-target interaction parameters and by the presence of preplasma. Our results indicate that currently available laser facilities are capable of producing XUV pulses with duration ∼10fs, brilliance in excess of 1023photons/s/mm2/mrad2 (0.1% bandwidth), and intensity Iλ21019Wcm-2μm2.

  • Scaling laws for positron production in laser-electron-beam collisions
  • 2017
  • Ingår i: Physical Review A. - 2469-9934 .- 2469-9926. ; 96:2, s. Article no 022128 -
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Showers of gamma rays and positrons are produced when a high-energy electron beam collides with a superintense laser pulse. We present scaling laws for the electron-beam energy loss, the gamma-ray spectrum, and the positron yield and energy that are valid in the nonlinear, radiation-reaction-dominated regime. As an application we demonstrate that by employing the collision of a > GeV electron beam with a laser pulse of intensity > 5 x 10(21) Wcm(-2), today's high-intensity laser facilities are capable of producing O(10(4)) positrons per shot via light-by-light scattering.

  • Simulating moving cavities in superconducting circuits
  • 2019
  • Ingår i: Physical Review A. - 2469-9934 .- 2469-9926. ; 100:2
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We theoretically investigate the simulation of moving cavities in a superconducting circuit setup. In particular, we consider a recently proposed experimental scenario where the phase of the cavity field is used as a moving clock. By computing the error made when simulating the cavity trajectory with superconducting quantum interference devices (SQUIDs), we identify parameter regimes where the correspondence holds, and where time dilation and corrections due to clock size and to particle creation coefficients are observable. These findings may serve as a guideline when performing experiments on simulation of moving cavities in superconducting circuits.

  • Time-resolved inner-shell photoelectron spectroscopy : From a bound molecule to an isolated atom
  • 2018
  • Ingår i: Physical Review A: covering atomic, molecular, and optical physics and quantum information. - 2469-9926 .- 2469-9934. ; 97:4
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Due to its element and site specificity, inner-shell photoelectron spectroscopy is a widely used technique to probe the chemical structure of matter. Here, we show that time-resolved inner-shell photoelectron spectroscopy can be employed to observe ultrafast chemical reactions and the electronic response to the nuclear motion with high sensitivity. The ultraviolet dissociation of iodomethane (CH3I) is investigated by ionization above the iodine 4d edge, using time-resolved inner-shell photoelectron and photoion spectroscopy. The dynamics observed in the photoelectron spectra appear earlier and are faster than those seen in the iodine fragments. The experimental results are interpreted using crystal-field and spin-orbit configuration interaction calculations, and demonstrate that time-resolved inner-shell photoelectron spectroscopy is a powerful tool to directly track ultrafast structural and electronic transformations in gas-phase molecules.

  • Coulomb-explosion imaging of concurrent CH2BrI photodissociation dynamics
  • 2017
  • Ingår i: Physical Review A: covering atomic, molecular, and optical physics and quantum information. - 2469-9926 .- 2469-9934. ; 96:4
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The dynamics following laser-induced molecular photodissociation of gas-phase CH2BrI at 271.6 nm were investigated by time-resolved Coulomb-explosion imaging using intense near-IR femtosecond laser pulses. The observed delay-dependent photofragment momenta reveal that CH2BrI undergoes C-I cleavage, depositing 65.6% of the available energy into internal product states, and that absorption of a second UV photon breaks the C-Br bond of C(H)2Br. Simulations confirm that this mechanism is consistent with previous data recorded at 248 nm, demonstrating the sensitivity of Coulomb-explosion imaging as a real-time probe of chemical dynamics.

  • Exceptional links and twisted Fermi ribbons in non-Hermitian systems
  • 2018
  • Ingår i: Physical Review A: covering atomic, molecular, and optical physics and quantum information. - 2469-9926 .- 2469-9934. ; 98:4
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The generic nature of band touching points in three-dimensional band structures is at the heart of the rich phenomenology, topological stability, and novel Fermi arc surface states associated with Weyl semimetals. Here we report on the corresponding scenario emerging in systems effectively described by non-Hermitian Hamiltonians. Remarkably, three-dimensional non-Hermitian systems have generic band touching along one-dimensional closed contours, forming exceptional rings and links in reciprocal space. The associated Seifert surfaces support open Fermi ribbons where the real part of the energy gap vanishes, providing a novel class of higher-dimensional bulk generalizations of Fermi arcs which are characterized by an integer twist number. These results have possible applications to a plethora of physical settings, ranging from mechanical systems and optical metamaterials with loss and gain to heavy fermion materials with finite-lifetime quasiparticles. In particular, photonic crystals provide fertile ground for simulating the exuberant phenomenology of exceptional links and their concomitant Fermi ribbons.

  • Attosecond transient absorption spectrum of argon at the L-2,L-3 edge
  • 2018
  • Ingår i: Physical Review A: covering atomic, molecular, and optical physics and quantum information. - 2469-9926 .- 2469-9934. ; 97:3
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Progress in high-harmonic generation has led to high-energy attosecond pulses with cutoff above the carbon 1s edge (283.8 eV). These pulses are essential to extend time-resolved spectroscopies to the water window in order to control electron dynamics in solvated organic species. Here we report a step towards this goal: the measurement, with subcycle time resolution, of the attosecond transient absorption spectrum of argon at the 2p(-1) L-2,L-3 edge (similar to 250 eV) in the presence of a short-wave infrared control pulse. The measurements, supported by theoretical simulations, demonstrate the concurrent role of Auger decay and tunnel ionization in the driven evolution of inner-valence holes of polyelectronic atoms.

  • Anomalous polarization dependence in vibrationally resolved resonant inelastic x-ray scattering of H2O
  • 2018
  • Ingår i: Physical Review A: covering atomic, molecular, and optical physics and quantum information. - : American Physical Society. - 2469-9926 .- 2469-9934. ; 98:1
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • It is well established that different electronic channels, in resonant inelastic x-ray scattering (RIXS), display different polarization dependences due to different orientations of their corresponding transition dipole moments in the molecular frame. However, this effect does not influence the vibrational progression in the Franck-Condon approximation. We have found that the transition dipole moments of core excitation and deexcitation experience ultrafast rotation during dissociation in the intermediate core-excited state. This rotation makes the vibrational progression in RIXS sensitive to the polarization of the x-ray photons. We study the water molecule, in which the effect is expressed in RIXS through the dissociative core-excited state where the vibrational scattering anisotropy is accompanied also by violation of parity selection rules for the vibrations.

  • Truncated dynamics, ring molecules, and mechanical time crystals
  • 2019
  • Ingår i: Physical Review A: covering atomic, molecular, and optical physics and quantum information. - : AMER PHYSICAL SOC. - 2469-9926 .- 2469-9934. ; 99:2
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We identify circumstances where the effective descriptions of microscopic physical systems leads to a self-consistent reduced dynamics for a truncated subset of the original variables. The effective Hamiltonian involves unusual Poisson brackets that bring in noncommutative geometry. In idealized models of ring molecules, we find time crystal behavior is widespread.
