  • Convergent genetic and expression data implicate immunity in Alzheimer's disease
  • 2015
  • Ingår i: Alzheimer's & Dementia. - : Wiley. - 1552-5260 .- 1552-5279. ; 11:6, s. 658-671
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Background: Late-onset Alzheimer's disease (AD) is heritable with 20 genes showing genome-wide association in the International Genomics of Alzheimer's Project (IGAP). To identify the biology underlying the disease, we extended these genetic data in a pathway analysis. Methods: The ALIGATOR and GSEA algorithms were used in the IGAP data to identify associated functional pathways and correlated gene expression networks in human brain. Results: ALIGATOR identified an excess of curated biological pathways showing enrichment of association. Enriched areas of biology included the immune response (P = 3.27 X 10(-12) after multiple testing correction for pathways), regulation of endocytosis (P = 1.31 X 10(-11)), cholesterol transport (P = 2.96 X 10(-9)), and proteasome-ubiquitin activity (P = 1.34 X 10(-6)). Correlated gene expression analysis identified four significant network modules, all related to the immune response (corrected P = .002-.05). Conclusions: The immime response, regulation of endocytosis, cholesterol transport, and protein ubiquitination represent prime targets for AD therapeutics.

  • Mediterranean, DASH, and MIND Dietary Patterns and Cognitive Function : The 2-Year Longitudinal Changes in an Older Spanish Cohort
  • 2021
  • Ingår i: Frontiers in Aging Neuroscience. - : Frontiers Media SA. - 1663-4365. ; 13
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Background and Aims: Plant-forward dietary patterns have been associated with cardiometabolic health benefits, which, in turn, have been related to cognitive performance with inconsistent findings. The objective of this study was to examine the relationship between baseline adherence to three a priori dietary patterns (Mediterranean, DASH, and MIND diets) with 2-year changes in cognitive performance in older adults with overweight or obesity and high cardiovascular disease risk. Methods: A prospective cohort analysis was conducted within the PREDIMED-Plus trial, involving 6,647 men and women aged 55–75 years with overweight or obesity and metabolic syndrome. Using a validated, semiquantitative 143-item food frequency questionnaire completed at baseline, the dietary pattern adherence scores were calculated. An extensive neuropsychological test battery was administered at baseline and 2-year follow-up. Multivariable-adjusted linear regression models were used to assess associations between 2-year changes in cognitive function z-scores across tertiles of baseline adherence to the a priori dietary patterns. Results: Adherence to the Mediterranean diet at baseline was associated with 2-year changes in the general cognitive screening Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE, β: 0.070; 95% CI: 0.014, 0.175, P-trend = 0.011), and two executive function-related assessments: the Trail Making Tests Part A (TMT-A, β: −0.054; 95% CI: −0.110, − 0.002, P-trend = 0.047) and Part B (TMT-B, β: −0.079; 95% CI: −0.134, −0.024, P-trend = 0.004). Adherence to the MIND diet was associated with the backward recall Digit Span Test assessment of working memory (DST-B, β: 0.058; 95% CI: 0.002, 0.114, P-trend = 0.045). However, higher adherence to the DASH dietary pattern was not associated with better cognitive function over a period of 2 years. Conclusion: In older Spanish individuals with overweight or obesity and at high cardiovascular disease risk, higher baseline adherence to the Mediterranean dietary pattern may be associated with better cognitive performance than lower adherence over a period of 2 years.

  • TeraFlow: Secured autonomic traffic management for a tera of SDN flows
  • 2021
  • Ingår i: 2021 Joint European Conference on Networks and Communications and 6G Summit, EuCNC/6G Summit 2021. - 9781665415262 ; , s. 377-382
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • TeraFlow proposes a new type of secure, cloud-native Software Defined Networking (SDN) controller that will radically advance the state-of-the-art in beyond 5G networks by introducing novel micro-services architecture, and provide revolutionary features for both flow management (service layer) and optical/microwave network equipment integration (infras-tructure layer) by adapting new data models. TeraFlow will also incorporate security using Machine Learning (ML) and forensic evidence for multi-tenancy based on Distributed Ledgers. Finally, this new SDN controller shall be able to integrate with the current Network Function Virtualization (NFV) and Multi-access Edge Computing (MEC) frameworks as well as to other networks. The target pool of TeraFlow stakeholders expands beyond the traditional telecom operators towards edge and hyperscale cloud providers.

  • On the Capability Notion in Business Informatics : [Opening]
  • 2014
  • Ingår i: [Proceedings of] The 1st International Workshop on Capability-oriented Business Informatics (CoBI 2014). ; , s. 1-2
  • Konferensbidrag (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • The business environments of today are changing rapidly, entailing complex anddynamic organizational constellations. Enterprises operating in these conditions needto have the capability to deliver their services in a variety of business contexts withsustainable quality and moreover to leverage them to competitive advantage. Latelythe notion of capability has gained a growing attention, due to a number of factors:the notion directs business investment focus, it can be used as a baseline for businessplanning, and it leads directly to service specification and design.

  • Selected Topics on Advances in Capability-Oriented Information Systems Development : Editorial Introduction to Issue 10 of CSIMQ
  • 2017
  • Ingår i: Complex Systems Informatics and Modeling Quarterly. - : Riga Technical University. - 2255-9922. ; :10, s. 1-2
  • Tidskriftsartikel (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • Modern organizations need to be sustainable in the presence of dynamically changing business conditions, which require from Information Systems (IS) to address complex challenges for being able to support organizations acting in varying business conditions – changing customer demands, new legislations, new customers, and emerging alliances. From a technical perspective, the gap between business requirements and supporting IS is still present, mostly due to the fact that current IS development approaches operate with artifacts defined on a relatively low abstraction level. To go beyond the state of the art, IS development frameworks used by enterprises need to be structured for solving emerging problems, and enterprises need to have efficient methods for the use of these frameworks to deliver the right IS solutions just-in-time and just-enough. The notion of capability emerged in the beginning of the nineties in the context of competence-based management, military frameworks, and developing organization’s competitive advantage – linguistically, it means the ability or qualities necessary to do something.

  • Aligning Communication Analysis with the Unifying Meta-Model for Enterprise Modeling
  • 2012
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Enterprise Modeling (EM) captures and represents organizational know-ledge in models that cover different views of the enterprise. The models can be leveraged in the development of information systems. Investigating how to use them as input to Model-Driven Development (MDD) is an open challenge. This paper explores how a holistic EM approach, represented by a unifying meta-model, can benefit from integrating with Communication Analysis, a communication-oriented business process modeling and requirements engineering method. As a first step towards an integrated EM-enabled MDD approach, the unifying meta-model and Communication Analysis meta-model are aligned. A set of guidelines for trans-forming models conforming to the unifying meta-model to Communication Analysis models are formulated. The approach is illustrated using of a lab demo.
