  • A unique gravitational wave signal from phase transition during inflation*
  • 2022
  • Ingår i: Chinese Physics C. - : IOP Publishing. - 1674-1137 .- 2058-6132. ; 46:10
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We study the properties of gravitational wave (GW) signals produced by first-order phase transitions during the inflation era. We show that the power spectrum of a GW oscillates with its wave number. This signal can be observed directly by future terrestrial and spatial GW detectors and through the B-mode spectrum in the CMB. This oscillatory feature of the GW is generic for any approximately instantaneous sources occurring during inflation and is distinct from the GW from phase transitions after inflation. The details of the GW spectrum contain information about the scale of the phase transition and the later evolution of the universe.

  • Leaving Variability Management to the End User; A Comparison Between Different Tailoring Approaches
  • 2003
  • Rapport (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • To enable software to fulfill user requirements over time and meet changes in, for example, business environments, software variability is needed. One way to achieve variability is through tailoring. However, some kind of variability management is needed in order to take advantage of variability. With a tailorable system we mean a system that is designable when it is in use. This means that some design decisions are postponed until the system is up and running. It is the end-user who will adjust the program to fit altered requirements through, for example, run-time configuration. In other words, tailoring requires that the variability management of the system is left to the end user. In this article we present three different examples of tailoring and in the form of a comparison between the three approaches we identify and discuss some issues which must be considered when variability management is left to the end user.

  • Vilken kunskap erkänns i det systematiska kvalitetsarbetet? Om oförenliga tankestilar i dagens förskola
  • 2014
  • Ingår i: Nordisk Barnehageforskning. - : Cappelen Damm AS - Cappelen Damm Akademisk. - 1890-9167. ; 7:12, s. 1-18
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This study is to be seen in relation to the intensified ‘assessment culture’ that has evolved in today's educational system. The purpose is to discuss how the dualistic mission of the curriculum is being handled in preschools systematic quality work,  by studying the representation and recognition of ideational and interpersonal knowledge. The study is based on video-observations of preschool teachers’ planning, work and follow up of three educational activities in two different preschools. The theoretical basis consist of a multimodal and design theoretical perspective used in combination with Ludwik Flecks work on thought styles and thought collectives. The analyse shows that the curriculum objectives are handled in contradictory ways. This is visible in interaction patterns that exhibit traces from incompatible thought styles.

  • Party membership and state subsidies : a comparative study
  • 2009
  • Doktorsavhandling (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • This thesis tests the hypothesis that increasing state subsidies to political parties cause a declined party membership. The theory that predicted this development was constructed by Epstein in 1967 and presented in his book Political Parties in Western Democracies. The theoretical propositions have been debated by political scientists since then, but no thorough test has been conducted.  In order to test the hypothesis state subsidies data and party membership data was collected for the national parties from eight states. The data was then analysed by use of the panel data models. Panel data models make use of the regression analysis technique. Examples of specialized such models are analysis through the fundamental parameter of change, first differencing and pooled analysis. The results provided by the models proved to not give a straight answer. Instead, the results pointed in different directions.  The most likely interpretation of the results is that increasing state subsidies to political parties does not cause a decline in party membership. To validate such a result would require that most of the results pointed in the same direction. Thus, the hypothesis of the investigation should be considered falsified. Instead the focus of future studies should probably be directed at the supply side of party membership. When party membership decline is explained by the supply side this means that the decline is explained by people stop having motive to become party members. However, it is important to remember that other interpretations of the results are possible as well.

  • Relations between soil organic carbon content and the pore size distribution for an arable topsoil with large variations in soil properties
  • 2022
  • Ingår i: European Journal of Soil Science. - : Wiley. - 1351-0754 .- 1365-2389. ; 73
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Soil organic carbon (SOC) in arable topsoil is known to have beneficial effects on soil physical properties that are important for soil fertility. The effects of SOC content on soil aggregate stability have been well documented; however, few studies have investigated its relationship with the soil pore structure, which has a strong influence on water dynamics and biogeochemical cycling. In the present study, we examined the relationships between SOC and clay contents and pore size distributions (PSDs) across an arable field with large spatial variations in topsoil SOC and clay contents by combining X-ray tomography and measurements of soil water retention. Additionally, we investigated the relationships between fractionated SOC, reactive Fe and Al oxide contents and soil pore structure. We found that porosities in the 0.2-720 mu m diameter class were positively correlated with SOC content. A unit increase of SOC content was associated with a relatively large increase in porosity in the 0.2-5 and 480-720 mu m diameter classes, which indicates that enhanced SOC content would increase plant available water content and unsaturated hydraulic conductivity. On the other hand, macroporosities (1200-3120 mu m diameter classes) and bioporosity were positively correlated with clay content but not with SOC content. Due to strong correlations between soil texture, carbon-to-nitrogen ratios and reactive iron contents, we could not separate the relative importance of these soil properties for PSDs. Reactive aluminium and particulate organic carbon contents were poorer predictors for PSDs compared with clay and SOC contents. This study provides new insights on the relations between SOC and soil pore structure in an arable soil and may lead to improved estimations of the effects of enhanced SOC sequestration on soil water dynamics and soil water supply to crops. Highlights Relations between soil organic carbon (SOC) and pore size distribution (PSD) in an arable soil were explored. We used X-ray tomography and soil water retention to quantify a wide range of PSD. There were positive correlations between SOC and porosities in 0.2-720 mu m diameter classes. Porosities in 0.2-5 and 480-720 mu m diameter classes were more strongly correlated with SOC than clay. Our results have implications for improved estimates of effects of SOC sequestration on soil water dynamics.

  • Feminist struggle over urban safety and the politics of space
  • 2015
  • Ingår i: The European Journal of Women's Studies. - : Sage Publications. - 1350-5068 .- 1461-7420. ; 23:3, s. 251-264
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This article explores safety and politics of space in two ways. First, it reviews research on women’s fear and calls for safer cities, identifying four contradictions in the geography of fear discourse. Second, it elaborates on how including various forms of fear may repoliticize the contemporary depoliticized and co-opted safety discussion by focusing on sexist and racist threats rather than exclusively on the white middle classes. Here, threats to veiled Muslim women and their experiences in public spaces are, in particular, emphasized as exemplifying fears that are neglected in the safety debate. The article concludes that, rather than the whole safety issue being dismissed as ‘neoliberal’, there is an urgent need to strengthen the analysis of power and illuminate experiences of pain and fear in sexist and racist violence.
