  • Two time scales for self and collective diffusion near the critical point in a simple patchy model for proteins with floating bonds
  • 2018
  • Ingår i: Soft Matter. - 1744-683X. ; 14:39, s. 8006-8016
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Using dynamic Monte Carlo and Brownian dynamics, we investigate a floating bond model in which particles can bind through mobile bonds. The maximum number of bonds (here fixed to 4) can be tuned by appropriately choosing the repulsive, nonadditive interactions among bonds and particles. We compute the static and dynamic structure factor (intermediate scattering function) in the vicinity of the gas-liquid critical point. The static structure exhibits a weak tetrahedral network character. The intermediate scattering function shows a temporal decay deviating from a single exponential, which can be described by a double exponential decay where the two time scales differ approximately by one order of magnitude. This time scale separation is robust over a range of wave numbers. The analysis of clusters in real space indicates the formation of noncompact clusters and shows a considerable stretch in the instantaneous size distribution when approaching the critical point. The average time evolution of the largest subcluster of given initial clusters with 10 or more particles also shows a double exponential decay. The observation of two time scales in the intermediate scattering function at low packing fractions is consistent with similar findings in globular protein solutions with trivalent metal ions that act as bonds between proteins.

  • Trochanteric fracture-implant motion during healing - A radiostereometry (RSA) study
  • 2018
  • Ingår i: Injury-International Journal of the Care of the Injured. - : Elsevier BV. - 0020-1383. ; 49:3, s. 673-679
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Cut-out complication remains a major unsolved problem in the treatment of trochanteric hip fractures. A better understanding of the three-dimensional fracture-implant motions is needed to enable further development of clinical strategies and countermeasures. The aim of this clinical study was to characterise and quantify three-dimensional motions between the implant and the bone and between the lag screw and nail of the Gamma nail. Radiostereometry Analysis (RSA) analysis was applied in 20 patients with trochanteric hip fractures treated with an intramedullary nail. The following three-dimensional motions were measured postoperatively, at 1 week, 3, 6 and 12 months: translations of the tip of the lag screw in the femoral head, motions of the lag screw in the nail, femoral head motions relative to the nail and nail movements in the femoral shaft. Cranial migration of the tip of the lag screw dominated over the other two translation components in the femoral head. In all fractures the lag screw slid laterally in the nail and the femoral head moved both laterally and inferiorly towards the nail. All femoral heads translated posteriorly relative to the nail, and rotations occurred in both directions with median values close to zero. The nail tended to retrovert in the femoral shaft. Adverse fracture-implant motions were detected in stable trochanteric hip fractures treated with intramedullary nails with high resolution. Therefore, RSA method can be used to evaluate new implant designs and clinical strategies, which aim to reduce cut-out complications. Future RSA studies should aim at more unstable fractures as these are more likely to fail with cut-out. (C) 2018 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

  • Boundedness of the Riesz potential in central Morrey-Orlicz spaces
  • 2022
  • Ingår i: Positivity (Dordrecht). - : Springer Nature. - 1385-1292 .- 1572-9281. ; 26:1
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Boundedness of the maximal operator and the Calderón–Zygmund singular integral operators in central Morrey–Orlicz spaces were proved in papers (Maligranda et al. in Colloq Math 138:165–181, 2015; Maligranda et al. in Tohoku Math J 72:235–259, 2020) by the second and third authors. The weak-type estimates have also been proven. Here we show boundedness of the Riesz potential in central Morrey–Orlicz spaces and the corresponding weak-type version.

  • Lifestyle Mobilities : A conceptual focus
  • 2011
  • Konferensbidrag (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • It has been suggested that mobilities is a key concept of contemporary society and the predominant way in which one engages with the world. At the same time, there has been a (re)focus on ideas of lifestyle within the social sciences. Consequently, there is a need to challenge current thinking about the corporeal organisation of movement to take into account the ambiguities and tensions that abound in the literature on both lifestyle and mobilities. This session seeks papers that highlight socio-cultural phenomena pertaining to lifestyle and mobility and invites papers that challenge existing thinking in these areas, including: - Negotiations of lifestyle and movement - Mobile methodologies - Affective possibilities and lifestyle - Mobility, lifestyle and tourism, recreation and/or leisure - Hybrid possibilities – migration/transnationalism/mobility - Cosmopolitanism, fluid identities and identity confusions - Moorings, movement and performance - Mobilities as the corporeal everyday - Lifestyle mobility and relationships to place

  • The Rich Kids of Instagram : Luxury Travel, Transport Modes, and Desire
  • 2022
  • Ingår i: Journal of Travel Research. - : Sage Publications. - 0047-2875 .- 1552-6763. ; 61:7, s. 1479-1494
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The Rich Kids of Instagram (RKOI) portray luxury lifestyles on social media. The potential roles of travel and transport within these online displays of affluence have not yet been examined. This paper's purpose is to analyse how transport modes and luxury travel are depicted and interrelated through RKOI images. Co-occurrence analyses were conducted using a data set of Instagram posts with RKOI as a hashtag (2012-2018) to visualize the roles of transport modes and luxury travel in RKOI image construction. The findings demonstrate that both energy-intensive transport modes and luxury travel, whether through air/watercraft or luxury cars, play a vital role in signaling RKOI's self-image on Instagram, with gendered differences. The article contributes an original conceptual model of how RKOI construct their image using transport modes and luxury travel. Implications for the social normalization of carbon-intensive transport choices, coupled with luxury destinations as a backdrop, are discussed.

  • Cryo-EM structure and rRNA modification sites of a plant ribosome
  • 2022
  • Ingår i: Plant Communications. - : Elsevier BV. - 2590-3462. ; 3:5
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Protein synthesis in crop plants contributes to the balance of food and fuel on our planet, which influences human metabolic activity and lifespan. Protein synthesis can be regulated with respect to changing environmental cues via the deposition of chemical modifications into rRNA. Here, we present the structure of a plant ribosome from tomato and a quantitative mass spectrometry analysis of its rRNAs. The study reveals fine features of the ribosomal proteins and 71 plant-specific rRNA modifications, and it re-annotates 30 rRNA residues in the available sequence. At the protein level, isoAsp is found in position 137 of uS11, and a zinc finger previously believed to be universal is missing from eL34, suggesting a lower effect of zinc deficiency on protein synthesis in plants. At the rRNA level, the plant ribosome differs markedly from its human counterpart with respect to the spatial distribution of modifications. Thus, it represents an additional layer of gene expression regulation, highlighting the molecular signature of a plant ribosome. The results provide a reference model of a plant ribosome for structural studies and an accurate marker for molecular ecology.
