  • Sales Activities for Newcomers : Technology-based Start-up Firm's Business Exchange
  • 2006
  • In: The international conference on Information Technology in Business ITIB,2006. - Warszaw : Warszaw Agricultural University. ; , s. 263-
  • Conference paper (peer-reviewed)abstract
    • This paper investigates the first business exchange of new technology based start-up firms. The authors use entrepreneurial theory combined with marketing management theory, to describe technology based start-up firms selling activities and how the start-ups reach key milestones. It is a study conducted of one e-business firm and one new product development (NPD) firm which are now both successful, and how they got their first customer. The paper provides a picture of how founders and board-members/owners have contributed in the first business exchange. The paper also highlights how important the sales aktivities are, as well as how important relatinships and industrial knowledge is. Also, it concludes that the first business exchange follow a timeline with three important activity phases, 1) Credibility activities; 2) Closing activities; 3) Operations activities.

  • T4 - Telematics for Totally Transparent Transports
  • 2005
  • In: 2005 IEEE Intelligent Transportation Systems Conference (ITSC). - New York : IEEE Press. - 0780392159 ; , s. 467-472
  • Conference paper (peer-reviewed)abstract
    • Transports can be made safer, more secure and efficient by help of telemetry and tracking on-line in real time. T4 is a system architecture aimed to support the development of telematic services for transparent tracking and surveillance monitoring of goods transported by different means on a global scale. The main idea is to focus on the transported pallets or parcels instead of the vehicles moving them. To enable rapid response to new customer requirements and to support remote management of field equipment, software implemented services are designed, packaged, deployed and mediated using XML, Java and the OSGi software technology standards.

  • Snoring and daytime sleepiness as risk factors for hypertension and diabetes in women--a population-based study
  • 2007
  • In: Respiratory Medicine. - : Elsevier BV. - 0954-6111 .- 1532-3064. ; 101:6, s. 1283-90
  • Journal article (peer-reviewed)abstract
    • The aim of this study was to analyze whether snoring and excessive daytime sleepiness (EDS), the main symptoms of obstructive sleep apnea syndrome (OSAS), are associated with hypertension and diabetes in women. A random sample of 6779 women aged 20–99 years answered questionnaires on sleep disturbances, daytime symptoms and somatic diseases. The women were categorized into four groups: “no EDS or snoring” (reference group), “snoring but no EDS”, “EDS but no snoring” and “snoring and EDS”. Prevalences of hypertension and diabetes were lowest in the reference group (8.7% and 1.6%, respectively) and highest among women with both snoring and EDS (hypertension: 26.3%, diabetes: 5.8%). In a multivariate model adjusting for age, body mass index, smoking, physical activity and alcohol dependency, “snoring and EDS” was a risk factor for hypertension (adjusted OR 1.82 (95% CI 1.30–2.55)) while isolated snoring or EDS was not. “Snoring and EDS” was more closely related to hypertension among women aged <50 years (adj. OR 3.41 (1.78–6.54) vs. 1.50 (1.02–2.19), P=0.01). For diabetes, both “EDS but no snoring” and “snoring and EDS” were risk factors and the associations were most pronounced in women aged >50 years (adj. OR 2.33 (1.28–4.26) for “EDS but no snoring” and 2.00 (1.05–3.84) for “snoring and EDS”). We conclude that the combination of snoring and EDS is a risk factor for hypertension and diabetes in women. For hypertension, the risk is partly age dependent and, for diabetes, EDS without snoring is a risk factor of similar magnitude. These differences might indicate differences in pathophysiologic mechanisms underlying the association between sleep-disordered breathing and hypertension and diabetes respectively.

  • Caudate nucleus volumes in frontotemporal lobar degeneration : differential atrophy in subtypes
  • 2008
  • In: American Journal of Neuroradiology. - 0195-6108 .- 1936-959X. ; 29:8, s. 1537-1543
  • Journal article (peer-reviewed)abstract
    • BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: Frontostriatal circuits involving the caudate nucleus have been implicated in frontotemporal lobar degeneration (FTLD). We assessed caudate nucleus volumetrics in FTLD and subtypes: frontotemporal dementia (FTD, n = 12), semantic dementia (SD, n = 13), and progressive nonfluent aphasia (PNFA, n = 9) in comparison with healthy controls (n = 27) and subjects with Alzheimer disease (AD, n = 19). MATERIALS AND METHODS: Diagnoses were based on accepted clinical criteria. Manual volume measurement of the head and body of the caudate, excluding the tail, was conducted on T1-weighted brain MR imaging scans, using a published protocol, by a single analyst blinded to the diagnosis. RESULTS: Paired t tests (P < .05) showed that the right caudate nucleus volume was significantly larger than the left in controls and PNFA. No hemispheric asymmetry was found in AD, ETD, and SD. Across the groups, there was a positive partial correlation between the left caudate nucleus volume and Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE) scores (r = 0.393, n = 76, P = .001) with higher left caudate volumes associated with higher MMSE scores. Multivariate analysis of covariance was used to assess the statistical significance between the subject groups (AD, ETD, SD, PNFA, and controls) as independent variables and raw right/left caudate volumes at the within-subject level (covariates: age and intracranial volume; P < .05). Control volume was largest, followed by AD (93% of control volume), SD (92%), PNFA (79%), and ETD (75%). CONCLUSIONS: Volume of the head and body of the caudate nucleus differs in subtypes of FTLD, due to differential frontostriatal dysfunction in subtypes being reflected in structural change in the caudate, and is correlated with cognition

  • Serotype G9 rotavirus infections in adults in Sweden
  • 2005
  • In: Journal of Clinical Microbiology. - 0095-1137 .- 1098-660X. ; 43:3, s. 1374-1376
  • Journal article (peer-reviewed)abstract
    • Rotavirus is a major cause of acute gastroenteritis. By examining 1,517 stool samples collected in 2001 and 2002 from Swedish adults with acute diarrhea, rotavirus was found in 3.2%, with the emerging G9P[8] serotype being the one most commonly identified (42.9%). This is the first documentation of G9 infections in adults in Europe. Copyright © 2005, American Society for Microbiology. All Rights Reserved.
