  • The Sixth Visual Object Tracking VOT2018 Challenge Results
  • 2019
  • Ingår i: Computer Vision – ECCV 2018 Workshops. - Cham : Springer Publishing Company. - 9783030110086 - 9783030110093 ; , s. 3-53
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The Visual Object Tracking challenge VOT2018 is the sixth annual tracker benchmarking activity organized by the VOT initiative. Results of over eighty trackers are presented; many are state-of-the-art trackers published at major computer vision conferences or in journals in the recent years. The evaluation included the standard VOT and other popular methodologies for short-term tracking analysis and a “real-time” experiment simulating a situation where a tracker processes images as if provided by a continuously running sensor. A long-term tracking subchallenge has been introduced to the set of standard VOT sub-challenges. The new subchallenge focuses on long-term tracking properties, namely coping with target disappearance and reappearance. A new dataset has been compiled and a performance evaluation methodology that focuses on long-term tracking capabilities has been adopted. The VOT toolkit has been updated to support both standard short-term and the new long-term tracking subchallenges. Performance of the tested trackers typically by far exceeds standard baselines. The source code for most of the trackers is publicly available from the VOT page. The dataset, the evaluation kit and the results are publicly available at the challenge website (http://votchallenge.net).

  • Analysis of modulations of mental fatigue on intra-individual variability from single-trial event related potentials
  • 2024
  • Ingår i: JOURNAL OF NEUROSCIENCE METHODS. - 0165-0270 .- 1872-678X. ; 406
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Background: Intra-individual variability (IIV), a measure of variance within an individual's performance, has been demonstrated as metrics of brain responses for neural functionality. However, how mental fatigue modulates IIV remains unclear. Consequently, the development of robust mental fatigue detection methods at the single-trial level is challenging. New methods: Based on a long-duration flanker task EEG dataset, the modulations of mental fatigue on IIV were explored in terms of response time (RT) and trial-to-trial latency variations of event-related potentials (ERPs). Specifically, latency variations were quantified using residue iteration decomposition (RIDE) to reconstruct latency-corrected ERPs. We compared reconstructed ERPs with raw ERPs by means of temporal principal component analysis (PCA). Furthermore, a single-trial classification pipeline was developed to detect the changes of mental fatigue levels. Results: We found an increased IIV in the RT metric in the fatigue state compared to the alert state. The same sequence of ERPs (N1, P2, N2, P3a, P3b, and slow wave, or SW) was separated from both raw and reconstructed ERPs using PCA, whereas differences between raw and reconstructed ERPs in explained variances for separated ERPs were found owing to IIV. Particularly, a stronger N2 was detected in the fatigue than alert state after RIDE. The single-trial fatigue detection pipeline yielded an acceptable accuracy of 73.3%. Comparison with existing methods: The IIV has been linked to aging and brain disorders, and as an extension, our finding demonstrates IIV as an efficient indicator of mental fatigue. Conclusions: This study reveals significant modulations of mental fatigue on IIV at the behavioral and neural levels and establishes a robust mental fatigue detection pipeline.

  • Reconfiguration of cognitive control networks during a long-duration flanker task
  • Ingår i: IEEE Transactions on Cognitive and Developmental Systems. - 2379-8920. ; , s. 1-10
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Continuous task engagement generally leads to vigilance decrement and deteriorates task performance. However, how conflict effect is modulated by vigilance decrement has no consistent evidence, and little is known about the underlying neural mechanisms. Here we adopted an electroencephalogram dataset collected during a prolonged flanker task to examine the interactions between vigilance and congruency on behavioral performance and neural measures. Specifically, we extracted a sequence of ERPs using temporal principal component analysis (PCA) and performed functional network analysis with graph measures. Behavioral analysis results showed that behavioral performance deteriorated due to vigilance decrement, but the capability of conflict processing was maintained over time. Regarding the neural analysis results, the conflict effect reflected in P3a and P3b was changed and maintained respectively when affected by vigilance decrement. The theta band frontoparietal network was observed in the face of conflicting interference and the conflict effect for graph measures disappeared over time. These results demonstrated deteriorated task performance, impaired cognitive functions, and the reconfiguration of cognitive control networks during a prolonged flanker task. Our findings also support the evidence that temporal PCA and event-related network analysis might be efficient for the investigation of the neural dynamics of complex cognitive processes.

  • Association of Triglyceride-Glucose Index With Cognitive Function and Brain Atrophy : A Population-Based Study
  • 2024
  • Ingår i: The American journal of geriatric psychiatry. - 1064-7481 .- 1545-7214. ; 32:2, s. 151-162
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Objective: To investigate the associations of triglyceride-glucose (TyG) index, a reliable surrogate marker for insulin resistance, with the function of various cognitive domains and brain structures among older adults.Design: A population-based cross-sectional study.Setting: Older adults living in the rural communities in China.Participants: About 4,541 rural-dwelling dementia-free participants (age ≥65 years; 56.37% women) undertook examinations in March–September 2018 for MIND-China.Measurements: TyG index was calculated as ln[fasting triglyceride (mg/dL) × fasting glucose (mg/dL)/2]. A neuropsychological test battery was used to assess memory, attention, verbal fluency, and executive function. Volumetric brain measures were assessed on magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) in a subsample (n = 1,019). Data were analyzed with restricted cubic spline and multivariable general linear models. Results: An inverted J-shaped association was observed between TyG index and z-scores of multiple cognitive domains, such that among individuals with TyG index ≥8.57 (median), a higher TyG index was significantly associated with lower z-scores of memory, attention, verbal fluency, executive function, and global cognition (all p < 0.05); among people with TyG index <8.57, a higher TyG index was significantly associated with a higher executive function z-score (p < 0.05), but not with any of the other examined cognitive domains. In the MRI subsample, a higher TyG index was significantly associated with lower volumes of total brain tissue, gray matter, and white matter as well as greater cerebrospinal fluid volume (p < 0.05), but not with white matter hyperintensity volume. Conclusions: Insulin resistance, as indicated by a high TyG index, was associated with poor function in multiple cognitive domains and global brain atrophy.

  • Global, regional, and national burden of diseases and injuries for adults 70 years and older : systematic analysis for the Global Burden of Disease 2019 Study.
  • 2022
  • Ingår i: The BMJ. - : BMJ Publishing Group Ltd. - 1756-1833. ; 376
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • OBJECTIVES: To use data from the Global Burden of Diseases, Injuries, and Risk Factors Study 2019 (GBD 2019) to estimate mortality and disability trends for the population aged ≥70 and evaluate patterns in causes of death, disability, and risk factors.DESIGN: Systematic analysis.SETTING: Participants were aged ≥70 from 204 countries and territories, 1990-2019.MAIN OUTCOMES MEASURES: Years of life lost, years lived with disability, disability adjusted life years, life expectancy at age 70 (LE-70), healthy life expectancy at age 70 (HALE-70), proportion of years in ill health at age 70 (PYIH-70), risk factors, and data coverage index were estimated based on standardised GBD methods.RESULTS: Globally the population of older adults has increased since 1990 and all cause death rates have decreased for men and women. However, mortality rates due to falls increased between 1990 and 2019. The probability of death among people aged 70-90 decreased, mainly because of reductions in non-communicable diseases. Globally disability burden was largely driven by functional decline, vision and hearing loss, and symptoms of pain. LE-70 and HALE-70 showed continuous increases since 1990 globally, with certain regional disparities. Globally higher LE-70 resulted in higher HALE-70 and slightly increased PYIH-70. Sociodemographic and healthcare access and quality indices were positively correlated with HALE-70 and LE-70. For high exposure risk factors, data coverage was moderate, while limited data were available for various dietary, environmental or occupational, and metabolic risks.CONCLUSIONS: Life expectancy at age 70 has continued to rise globally, mostly because of decreases in chronic diseases. Adults aged ≥70 living in high income countries and regions with better healthcare access and quality were found to experience the highest life expectancy and healthy life expectancy. Disability burden, however, remained constant, suggesting the need to enhance public health and intervention programmes to improve wellbeing among older adults.

  • Inhibition of Wnt/beta-catenin signaling promotes epithelial differentiation of mesenchymal stem cells and repairs bleomycin-induced lung injury
  • 2014
  • Ingår i: American Journal of Physiology-Cell Physiology. - : American Physiological Society. - 0363-6143 .- 1522-1563. ; 307:3
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis is a progressive lung disorder of unknown etiology. Previous studies have shown that aberrant activation of the Wnt/beta-catenin signaling cascade occurs in lungs of patients with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis. Given the important roles of the Wnt/beta-catenin signaling pathway in the development of pulmonary fibrosis, we targeted this pathway for the intervention of pulmonary fibrosis with XAV939, a small molecule that specifically inhibits Tankyrase 1/2, eventually leading to the degradation of beta-catenin and suppression of the Wnt/beta-catenin signaling pathway. Our results demonstrated that XAV939 significantly inhibited the activation of Wnt/beta-catenin signaling and attenuated bleomycin-induced lung fibrosis in mice, and thus improved the survival of mice with lung injury. Interestingly, previous investigations have confirmed that endogenous and exogenous mesenchymal stem cells could be recruited to the injured lung, although the exact effects of these cells are debatable. To determine the effect of Wnt/beta-catenin signaling in the epithelial differentiation of bone marrow-derived mesenchymal stem cells (BM-MSCs), we established a coculture system that contains BM-MSCs and alveolar type II epithelial cells. The in vitro experiments demonstrated that XAV939 could promote the differentiation of BM-MSCs into an epithelium-like phenotype in the coculture system. We also found that XAV939 could inhibit the proliferation and myofibroblast differentiation of NIH/3T3 fibroblasts. This work supports that inhibition of the Wnt/beta-catenin signaling pathway may be exploited for the treatment of idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis for which effective treatment strategies are still lacking.

  • Green Synthesis of Lactone-Based Conjugated Polymers for n-Type Organic Electrochemical Transistors
  • 2022
  • Ingår i: Advanced Functional Materials. - : Wiley. - 1616-301X .- 1616-3028. ; 32:16
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • As new and better materials are implemented for organic electrochemical transistors (OECTs), it becomes increasingly important to adopt more economic and environmentally friendly synthesis pathways with respect to conventional transition-metal-catalyzed polymerizations. Herein, a series of novel n-type donor–acceptor-conjugated polymers based on glycolated lactone and bis-isatin units are reported. All the polymers are synthesized via green and metal-free aldol polymerization. The strong electron-deficient lactone-building blocks provide low-lying lowest unoccupied molecular orbital (LUMO) and the rigid backbone needed for efficient electron mobility up to 0.07 cm2 V−1 s−1. Instead, polar atoms in the backbone and ethylene glycol side chains contribute to the ionic conductivity. The resulting OECTs exhibit a normalized maximum transconductance gm,norm of 0.8 S cm−1 and a μC* of 6.7 F cm−1 V−1 s−1. Data on the microstructure show that such device performance originates from a unique porous morphology together with a highly disordered amorphous microstructure, leading to efficient ion-to-electron coupling. Overall, the design strategy provides an inexpensive and metal-free polymerization route for high-performing n-type OECTs.

  • n-Type Organic Electrochemical Transistors with High Transconductance and Stability
  • 2023
  • Ingår i: Chemistry of Materials. - : American Chemical Society (ACS). - 0897-4756 .- 1520-5002. ; 35:2, s. 405-415
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • An n-type conjugated polymer based on diazaisoindigo (AIID) and fluorinated thiophene units is introduced. Combining the strong electron-accepting properties of AIID with backbone fluorination produced gAIID-2FT, leading to organic electrochemical transistors (OECTs) with normalized values of 4.09 F cm-1 V-1 s-1 and a normalized transconductance (gm,norm) of 0.94 S cm-1. The resulting OECTs exhibit exceptional operational stability and long shelf-life in ambient conditions, preserving 100% of the original maximum drain current after over 3 h of continuous operation and 28 days of storage in the air. Our work highlights the advantages of integrating strong electron acceptors with donor fluorination to boost the performance and stability of n-type OECTs.
