  • Bark Suberin as a Renewable Source of Long-Chain omega-Hydroxyalkanoic Acids
  • 2008
  • Ingår i: Macromolecular Symposia. - : Wiley. - 1022-1360 .- 1521-3900. ; 272:1, s. 104-106
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Polycondensations of cis-9,10-epoxy-18-hydroxyoctadecanoic acid, isolated from birch outer bark, were performed at 75 degrees C in toluene as solvent and at 85 degrees C in bulk using immobilized Candida antarctica lipase B as catalyst. The polycondensation performed in toluene in presence of molecular sieves gave a polyester with DP 50 after 24 h. The same DP was obtained at much shorter reaction time (3 h) by bulk polymerization in an open vial without any drying agent present.

  • RELIABLE BATCH MANUFACTURING OF MINIATURIZED VERTICAL VIAS IN SOFT POLYMER REPLICA MOLDING
  • 2007
  • Ingår i: 11th International Conference on Miniaturized Systems for Chemistry and Life Sciences (microTAS 2007). ; , s. 527-529
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We introduce and have successfully tested an uncomplicated polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) compatible method for batch manufacturing vertical microfluidic interconnects via a surface inhibition of cationic photopolymerization. The yield of the maskless method is 100%. Moreover, the method enhances bond strength with subsequently laminated polymer layers.

  • Anordning för vävnadsligering
  • 2009
  • Patent (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • A medical device (100) comprises an elongated, flexible band (110) equipped with ratchet members (120) and connected to a device head (130) having a channel (135) dimensioned for reception of the band (110). A lock member (140) is connected to the head (130) and configured to interlock the ratchet members (120) when the band (110) is pulled through the channel (135) to form a reverse-motion brake. A protrusion (160) is arranged in the head (130) in connection with the channel entrance. A matching protrusion receiving member (150) is provided in the band in connection with the band-head interface and is dimensioned for reception of the protrusion (160) when the band (110) is close to fully pushed into the head (130).

  • Constitutive Models for Rubber IV : proceedings of the 4th European Conference for Constitutive Models for Rubber, ECCMR 2005, Stockholm, Sweden, 27-29 June 2005
  • 2005. - 1
  • Samlingsverk (redaktörskap) (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The unique properties of elastomeric materials are taken advantage of in many engineering applications. Elastomeric units are used as couplings or mountings between stiff parts. Examples are shock absorbers, vibration insulators, flexible joints, seals and suspensions etc.   However, the complicated nature of the material behavior makes it difficult to accurately predict the performance of these units, using for example finite element modelling. It is therefore necessary that the constitutive model accurately capture relevant aspects of the mechanical behavior.   The latest development concerning constitutive modelling of rubber is collected in these proceedings. It is the fourth ECCMR-European Conference on Constitutive Modelling in a series on this subject.   Topics included in this volume are, Hyperelastic models, Strength, fracture & fatigue, Dynamic properties & the Fletcher-Gent effect, Micro-mechanical & statistical approaches, Stress softening, Viscoelasticity, Filler reinforcement, and Tyres, fiber & cord reinforced rubber.

  • Some important, fairly new uses of colloidal silica/silica sol
  • 2005
  • Ingår i: Colloidal Silica: Fundamentals and Applications. - 9781420028706 ; , s. 737-756
  • Bokkapitel (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • Dilute silica sols were prepared and studied over 70 years ago. Their uses as binders in catalyst preparation, as glazes on ceramics, as coatings on concrete and plaster of Paris, as agents for treating paper and textiles, and several other applications were investigated [1]. These early silica sols contained less than 10% by weight of silica, were fairly unstable and did not have reproducible proper- ties. Iler [2] predicted that colloidal silica would not be accepted for wide commercial use before these short- comings were remedied.

  • Biodegradable Ionomers for the Loading and Release of Proteins : Formation, Characterization, Mechanism, and Consequence of Water Uptake
  • 2008
  • Ingår i: Polymers for Biomedical Applications. - Washington, DC : American Chemical Society (ACS). - 9780841239661 - 9780841221093 ; , s. 250-266
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The increased understanding of proteins and the human genome point towards a future in which selective proteins may replace synthetic drugs in the general cure of disease. In this scenario the ability of controlled and gentle release of proteins provide the key for successful treatment. To address the ability of full protein delivery we have developed a series of telechelic biodegradable ionomers based on poly (trimethylene carbonate) carrying zwitterionic, anionic or cationic functional groups. The introduction of polar end-groups provides a material with unique properties that directs the introduced functionality within the material bulk but also to the material surface if water is introduced. Bulk aggregation provide a low elastic modulus material and the ability to surface enrich provide the on-set of water swelling. The latter finally results in a co-continuous water-ionomer structure that engulfs and stores proteins simply by soaking the material in an aqueous protein solution. Following protein loading the material can be dried and re-immersed in water so that release occurs. Our results, including both the careful synthesis and the ability to load and release proteins, provides new possibilities for full protein delivery.

  • MALDI-TOF MS Reveals the Molecular Level Structures of Different Hydrophilic-Hydrophobic Polyether-esters
  • 2009
  • Ingår i: Biomacromolecules. - : American Chemical Society (ACS). - 1525-7797 .- 1526-4602. ; 10:6, s. 1540-1546
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Multi- and triblock copolymers based on 1,5-dioxepan-2-one/epsilon-caprolactone (DXO/CL) were investigated by MALDI-TOF MS to determine the influence of copolymer composition and architecture on the molecular structures at the individual chain level. The copolymer compositions, average block lengths, and molecular weights were determined by H-1 and C-13 NMR and by SEC, respectively. The structures of polyether-ester oligomers (linear, cyclic) as well as the chemical structures of their end groups were established on the basis of their MALDI-TOF mass spectra. The mass spectrum of PDXO homopolymer was relatively simple, however, complex mass spectra were obtained in the case of multi- and triblock copolymers and the mass spectra clearly discerned the molecular level effect of copolymer composition and copolymer type.
