  • EU FP6 IST-2003-507581 WINNER, D3.1 Description of identified new relay based radio network deployment, Oct 2004
  • 2004
  • Rapport (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • In D3.1 the first concept for a WINNER radio network deployment mainly focused on relay basedconcepts are proposed. Further the concept of an radio and protocol architecture is presented that takes upthe relaying approach as well as the idea of having different WINNER radio interface modes to servedifferent user and usage scenarios in an optimal manner. Thereby the presented protocol concept is basedon generic and mode specific user an control plane functionalities, where the common functions fordifferent modes are generalised and provide a common interface towards upper layer functions/protocols.Further some relaying concepts for urban hot area coverage including mesh networks are presentedaccompanied by promising simulation results. In addition to the relaying concepts benchmarks have beenproduced to allow a comparison of new concepts against today’s systems.

  • EU FP6 IST-2003-507581 WINNER, D2.6 Assessment of Multiple Access Technologies, Oct 2004.
  • 2004
  • Rapport (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • The objective of this deliverable is to perform a first assessment of wireless access/multipleaccess technologies for the WINNER system concept. The study of multiple access schemes is theresponsibility of Task 4 within the WINNER workpackage 2. The work requires the collection andassessment of the numerous ideas and proposals available. The technologies and combinations oftechnologies are also assessed and compared, to identify the most promising strategies and combinations. The latter work is primarily performed by multi-link simulation and system-level simulation

  • On Spectrally Efficient Continuous Phase Modulation
  • 2000
  • Licentiatavhandling (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • Spectrally efficient partial response continuous phase modulation (CPM)for wireless links is considered. Continuous phase modulation defines constantenvelope phase codes, which are advantageous when using non-linear amplifiers. The channel is an additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN) channel and thespectrum requirement is a mask, which puts stringent requirements on thespectral main lobe and the spectral side lobes. The thesis consist of three papers. In the first paper, a simplifiedreceiver is evaluated for high-complexity partial response CPM on the AWGNchannel. The simplified receiver consists of an approximate filter bank, using simple integrate-and-dump filters, and a reduced state sequence detector(RSSD). The complexity reduction is significant with a very small degradationfor the AWGN channel, with and without co-channel interference, comparedto the optimum maximum likelihood (ML) detector. The simplified receiveris more sensitive to adjacent channel interference, than the maximum likelihood(ML) detector, but a large complexity reduction is still possible witha small performance degradation. In the second paper, convolutionally encoded partial response CPM isevaluated. A search for serially concatenated convolutional codes has beenperformed. The somewhat surprising result is that no coding gain is obtainedcompared to the best uncoded CPM schemes. In the last paper, a numerical optimization of the minimum Euclideandistance with the spectrum mask as constraint and the phase pulse shapeand modulation index as free parameters, has been performed. A small gainin minimum Euclidean distance and an interesting property for some optimizedphase pulses, that could be useful for simplified receivers, were obtained. There seems to be a saturation effect in CPM when using long phase pulses, thus restricting the possibilities to define more powerful constant envelopephase codes within CPM.In addition, complementary simulation results for the 'best' optimizedCPM scheme, taking complexity into account, are provided in an appendix. The advantageous property for the optimized phase pulse over a standardphase pulse, when using a simplified receiver, is demonstrated.
