  • Nourishment for the piggy bank : facilitation of external financing in incubators
  • 2011
  • Ingår i: International Journal of Technology Transfer and Commercialisation. - : Inderscience. - 1470-6075 .- 1741-5284. ; 10 3-4, s. 354-374
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • In this paper, we argue that incubators facilitate access to external financing for their incubatees. Incubators use a wide range of activities to facilitate the accessing of external financing from public and private sources. We have grouped these into two sets of activities. The general activities aim to develop the conditions for external financing through information, education of incubatees, network-building and lobbying activities. The specific activities aim to assist the individual incubatee in their pursuit of external finance through help in application procedures, establishing need for capital, making contacts with the best public or private investor, etc. Based on the survey data, we have also shown that it is more common for incubatees to attract external capital compared to non-incubator firms. The incubatees seem especially successful in attracting public capital. The incubatees also attract more private external capital, however, the observed frequency of private capital in the incubatees are low.

  • Charge transport in InAs nanowire Josephson junctions
  • 2014
  • Ingår i: Physical Review B - Condensed Matter and Materials Physics. - 2469-9950 .- 2469-9969 .- 1098-0121. ; 89:21, s. 214508-
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We present an extensive experimental and theoretical study of the proximity effect in InAs nanowires connected to superconducting electrodes. We fabricate and investigate devices with suspended gate-controlled nanowires and nonsuspended nanowires, with a broad range of lengths and normal-state resistances. We analyze the main features of the current-voltage characteristics: the Josephson current, excess current, and subgap current as functions of length, temperature, magnetic field, and gate voltage, and compare them with theory. The Josephson critical current for a short-length device, L = 30 nm, exhibits a record high magnitude of 800 nA at low temperature that comes close to the theoretically expected value. The critical current in all other devices is typically reduced compared to the theoretical values. The excess current is consistent with the normal resistance data and agrees well with the theory. The subgap current shows a large number of structures; some of them are identified as subharmonic gap structures generated by multiple Andreev reflection. The other structures, detected in both suspended and nonsuspended devices, have the form of voltage steps at voltages that are independent of either the superconducting gap or length of the wire. By varying the gate voltage in suspended devices, we are able to observe a crossover from typical tunneling transport at large negative gate voltage, with suppressed subgap current and negative excess current, to pronounced proximity junction behavior at large positive gate voltage, with enhanced Josephson current and subgap conductance as well as a large positive excess current.

  • High Critical-Current Superconductor-InAs Nanowire-Superconductor Junctions
  • 2012
  • Ingår i: Nano Letters. - : American Chemical Society (ACS). - 1530-6992 .- 1530-6984. ; 12:11, s. 5622-5625
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We report on the fabrication of InAs nanowires coupled to superconducting leads with high critical current and widely tunable conductance. We implemented a double lift off nanofabrication Method to get very short nanowire devices with Ohmic contacts. We observe very high critical. currents of up to 800 nA in a wire with a diameter of 80 nm. The current- voltage characteristics of longer and suspended nanowires display, either. Coulomb blockade or supercurrent depending on a local gate voltage, combining different regimes of transport in a single device.

  • Quantized Conductance and Its Correlation to the Supercurrent in a Nanowire Connected to Superconductors
  • 2013
  • Ingår i: Nano Letters. - : American Chemical Society (ACS). - 1530-6992 .- 1530-6984. ; 13:8, s. 3614-3617
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We report conductance and supercurrent of InAs nano wires coupled to Al-superconducting electrodes with short channel lengths and good Ohmic contacts. The nanowires are suspended 15 nm above a local gate electrode. The charge density in the nanowires can be controlled by a small change in the gate voltage. For large negative gate voltages, the number of conducting channels is reduced gradually, and we observe a stepwise decrease of both conductance and critical current before the conductance vanishes completely.

  • CFD INVESTIGATION OF SWIRL-STABILIZED FLEXI-FUEL BURNER USING METHANE-AIR MIXTURE FOR GAS TURBINES
  • 2011
  • Ingår i: International Society for Airbreathing Engines, ISABE, Gothenburg, 2011. ; 1, s. 160-172
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Combustion modeling based on a multi-step global reaction mechanism [1] is applied to CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) analysis of a scaled swirl-stabilized 4th generation premixed DLE (Dry Low Emission) burner for gas turbines. The flexi-fuel burner consists of a MAIN pre-mixed flame, a premixed PILOT flame and a confined RPL (Rich Pilot Lean) flame. Both steady-state RANS (Reynolds Averaged Navier Stokes) and hybrid URANS/LES (Unsteady RANS/Large Eddy Simulation) results have been computed. The results are compared with high quality experimental data in the form of emission data, PIV (Particle Image Velocimetry) data and OH-PLIF (Planar Laser Induced Fluorescence Imaging) from an atmospheric burner test rig at Lund University [2-3]. There is a good agreement between the CFD simulations and measurements of emissions, velocity field and flame visualization.

  • Electron spectroscopic studies of nanowires formed by (GaMn)As growth on GaAs(111)B
  • 2011
  • Ingår i: Solid State Communications. - : Elsevier BV. - 0038-1098 .- 1879-2766. ; 151:11, s. 850-854
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Valence band photoemission with photon energies around the Mn2p excitation threshold has been used to study the development of nanowires catalyzed by MnAs particles. A gradual change in the spectra with increasing nanowire length is observed, such that the resonant photoemission eventually dominates over the Auger decay channel. The change is ascribed to dilution of Mn, showing that Mn is transferred from the MnAs particles into the nanowires. (C) 2011 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

  • Thermal diffusion of Mn through GaAs overlayers on (Ga, Mn)As
  • 2011
  • Ingår i: Journal of Physics. - : Institute of Physics Publishing (IOPP). - 0953-8984 .- 1361-648X. ; 23:8
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Thermally stimulated diffusion of Mn through thin layers of GaAs has been studied by x-ray photoemission. (Ga, Mn)As samples with 5 at% Mn were capped with 4, 6 and 8 monolayer (ML) GaAs, and Mn diffusing through the GaAs was trapped on the surface by means of amorphous As. It was found that the out-diffusion is completely suppressed for an 8 ML thick GaAs film. The short diffusion length is attributed to an electrostatic barrier formed at the (Ga, Mn)As/GaAs interface.

  • Yeast reveals unexpected roles and regulatory features of aquaporins and aquaglyceroporins
  • 2014
  • Ingår i: Biochimica et Biophysica Acta. General Subjects. - : Elsevier BV. - 0304-4165 .- 1872-8006 .- 0006-3002. ; 1840:5, s. 1482-1491
  • Forskningsöversikt (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Background: The yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae provides unique opportunities to study roles and regulation of aqua/glyceroporins using frontline tools of genetics and genomics as well as molecular cell and systems biology. Scope of review: S. cerevisiae has two similar orthodox aquaporins. Based on phenotypes mediated by gene deletion or overexpression as well as on their expression pattern, the yeast aquaporins play important roles in key aspects of yeast biology: establishment of freeze tolerance, during spore formation as well as determination of cell surface properties for substrate adhesion and colony formation. Exactly how the aquaporins perform those roles and the mechanisms that regulate their function under such conditions remain to be elucidated. S. cerevisiae also has two different aquaglyceroporins. While the role of one of them, Yfl054c, remains to be determined, Fps1 plays critical roles in osmoregulation by controlling the accumulation of the osmolyte glycerol. Fpsl communicates with two osmo-sensing MAPK signalling pathways to perform its functions but the details of Fps1 regulation remain to be determined. Major conclusions: Several phenotypes associated with aqua/glyceroporin function in yeasts have been established. However, how water and glycerol transport contribute to the observed effects is not understood in detail. Also many of the basic principles of regulation of yeast aqua/glyceroporins remain to be elucidated. General significance: Studying the yeast aquaporins and aquaglyceroporins offers rich insight into the life style, evolution and adaptive responses of yeast and rewards us with discoveries of unexpected roles and regulatory mechanisms of members of this ancient protein family. • DNA Binding to Zwitterionic Model Membranes
  • 2010
  • Ingår i: Langmuir. - : American Chemical Society (ACS). - 1520-5827 .- 0743-7463. ; 26:7, s. 4965-4976
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This study shows that DNA (linearized plasmid, 4331 base pairs and salmon sperm, 2000 base pairs, respectively) adsorbs to model membranes of zwitterionic liquid crystalline phospholipid bilayers in solutions containing divalent Ca2+ rations, and also in solutions containing monovalent Na+. The interaction between DNA and surface-supported model membranes was followed in situ using null ellipsometry, quartz crystal microbalance with dissipation, as well as neutron reflectometry. In the presence of Na+ (in the absence Of multivalent ions), DNA adopts an extended coil conformation upon adsorption. The solvent content in the adsorbed layer is high, and DNA is positioned on top of the membrane. In the presence of divalent Ca2+. the driving force for the adsorption of DNA is electrostatic, and the adsorbed DNA film is not as dilute its in a solution containing Na+. Cryo-TEM and SANS were further used to investigate the interaction in bulk solution using vesicles as model membrane systems. DNA adsorption could not be identified in the presence of Na+ using SANS, but cryo-TEM indicates the presence of DNA between neighboring unilamellar vesicles. In the presence of Ca2+. DNA induces the formation of multilamellar vesicles in which DNA intercalates the lamellae. Possible electrostatic and hydrophobic mechanisms for the adsorption of DNA in solutions containing monovalent salt are discussed and compared to the observations in divalent salt.

  • AGATA - Advanced GAmma Tracking Array
  • 2012
  • Ingår i: Nuclear Instruments and Methods in Physics Research, Section A: Accelerators, Spectrometers, Detectors and Associated Equipment. - : Elsevier BV. - 0168-9002 .- 0167-5087 .- 1872-9576. ; 668, s. 26-58
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The Advanced GAmma Tracking Array (AGATA) is a European project to develop and operate the next generation γ-ray spectrometer. AGATA is based on the technique of γ-ray energy tracking in electrically segmented high-purity germanium crystals. This technique requires the accurate determination of the energy, time and position of every interaction as a γ ray deposits its energy within the detector volume. Reconstruction of the full interaction path results in a detector with very high efficiency and excellent spectral response. The realisation of γ-ray tracking and AGATA is a result of many technical advances. These include the development of encapsulated highly segmented germanium detectors assembled in a triple cluster detector cryostat, an electronics system with fast digital sampling and a data acquisition system to process the data at a high rate. The full characterisation of the crystals was measured and compared with detector- response simulations. This enabled pulse-shape analysis algorithms, to extract energy, time and position, to be employed. In addition, tracking algorithms for event reconstruction were developed. The first phase of AGATA is now complete and operational in its first physics campaign. In the future AGATA will be moved between laboratories in Europe and operated in a series of campaigns to take advantage of the different beams and facilities available to maximise its science output. The paper reviews all the achievements made in the AGATA project including all the necessary infrastructure to operate and support the spectrometer. © 2011 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
