  • Bygga - Bruka - Riva : Energianvändning i småhus ur ett kretsloppsperspektiv
  • 1995
  • Licentiatavhandling (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • This report deals with single-unit dwellings built in 1991 and 1992 in a city called Orebro, Sweden. The houses are prefabricated and the frameworks are made of wood. The aim of the essay is to present the total use of energy during the life-cycle of single-unit dwellings, taking their mode of construction into account. The life-cycle of a house is divided into the following periods: production (manufacturing of the building materials, transportation of the materials and erection of the single-unit dwellings);· management (occupation and renovation); and, finally, destruction (demolition and removal of debris). The management period is assumed to be 50 years.

  • Development of Lidar Techniques for Environmental Studies
  • 1996
  • Licentiatavhandling (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • The lidar group in Lund has performed many DIAL measurements with a mobile lidar system that was first described in 1987. The lidar system is based on a Nd: YAG-pumped dye laser. During the last few years the lidar group has focused on fluorescence imaging and mercury measurements in the troposphere. In 1994 we performed two campaigns: one fluorescence imaging measurement campaign outside A vignon, France and one unique lidar campaign at a mercury mine in Almaden, Spain. Both campaigns are described in this thesis. This thesis also describes how the mobile lidar system was updated with the graphical programming language LabVIEW to obtain a user friendly lidar system. The software controls the lidar system and analyses measured data. The measurement results are shown as maps of species concentration. All electronics and the major parts of the program are described. A new graphical technique to estimate wind speed from plumes is also discussed. First measurements have been performed with the new system.

  • Configuration management for distributed development - practice and needs
  • 1999
  • Licentiatavhandling (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • Configuration management (CM) includes synchronizing and supporting developers in their common development and maintenance of a system. The rapid development of the Internet and time-to-market pressure affects software development. In order to utilize skilled personnel despite geographical location, groups of developers are now working all over the world on the development of common systems, a situation called distributed development. From different locations they may need to concurrently modify thousands of files, sometimes the same files, within the product. When the prerequisites change this implies new, and harder, demands on CM support. This thesis presents two studies on configuration management. The first one focuses on a CM system and an evaluation of its functionality in the particular situation of a company with well-defined CM routines. Situations where the system turned out to be cumbersome to use or lacking functionality are identified and improvements are outlined for how the problems can be solved or the situations better supported. The second study classifies different cases of distributed development and client-server architectures, identifies three development strategies and discusses the properties of different synchronization models with respect to distribution. The analysis is supported by interviews with several companies and is focused on CM aspects related to distributed development. Experiences and practical guidance for some CM key-areas are also presented. The results presented in this thesis provide an understanding of concurrent and distributed development and their demands on CM and CM tools. It is concluded that the CM tools of today do not adequately support distributed groups, i.e. highly interactive distributed development - a problem that must be addressed by future research.

  • Övertändning, backdraft och brandgasexplosion sett ur räddningstjänstens perspektiv
  • 1999
  • Licentiatavhandling (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • This report presents a detailed description of the phenomena flashover, backdraft and smoke gas explosion. The physical and chemical processes which are involved in these phenomena are thoroughly discussed. The report also describes a number of compartment fire scenarios which are believed to be the most common scenarios occurring in Sweden. The description is based on a number of full- scale experiments which were carried out within the project. At the end of the report, possible warning signs of a potential flashover and backdraft are discussed. In the appendices, a number of models used to predict flashover are evaluated, using data from small scale experiments carried out within the project.

  • Incorporating Environmental Aspects in Transport Purchasing
  • 1999
  • Licentiatavhandling (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • The problem addressed in this thesis is how to account for environmental aspects when purchasing freight transports. This problem is addressed from a transport purchasing perspective. The result of the research is a model for how transport purchasers can incorporate environmental aspects when purchasing freight transports. This mode! is built on two tools and a work process. The first too! is a structural approach to enable transport purchasers to assess environmental performance of transport suppliers. The other too! is a method for assessing environmental aspects of a specific transport relation. The second tool furthermore includes a method for how to allocate the environmental aspect of transports to the cargo transported and a method for how to determine environmental aspects of a specific transport relation. The aspects accounted for are the input of energy and the output of emissions of carbon dioxide, sulphur oxides, nitrogen oxides, hydrocarbons and particulate. The work process describes how the tools can be used in order to support continuous improvements. The work process is described according to the Plan-Do-Check-Act cycle. The research has been both case study inspired as well as action research oriented. The model was developed in a company where the researcher actively participated in its development. The company in the case study is a major European transport purchaser. The practical implication of the result is a method, which enables transport purchasers to account for environmental aspects in their purchasing work. The theoretical implication of this method can be a step towards developing general theory of accounting for the environment in transport purchasing.
