Adapted fathering for new times – refugee men’s caring and domestic practices during resettlement

- The present paper explores Middle Eastern men’s narratives on everyday family life and fatherhood in Sweden. The analysis is based on individual interviews and diary notes. Swedish society differs from Middle Eastern societies in many respects; it offers comprehensive rights to extensive social welfare benefits, but also demands that newly arrived migrants participate in language studies, accept trainee positions, and actively search for employment. These requirements apply to mothers as well as fathers. Life in Sweden is challenging for refugees; many face long-term unemployment and welfare dependence. The present analysis shows how Syrian and Iraqi fathers’ downward social mobility, with radically changed material and financial means, influences their caring and domestic practices. In part, they take on ‘female’ duties and share chores with their spouse more equally. The study illuminates that fathering is dynamic and prone to change; (migrant) men adjust their strategies to provide the best possible circumstances and future prospects for their children. This challenges the notion that (migrant) fathering and masculinity are fixed.

- Title. What implies registered nurses leadership close to older adults in the municipality home health care?Objective. The objective was to explore how the literature describes the registered nurses’ leadership near to older adults in municipal home care.Background. Home health care in Sweden and world-wide is affected by the increasing number of older adults, 65 years and over. One challenge is that older adults report more health problems compared with health professionals’ needs assessments. The primary task of care is to support and strengthen people’s health processes to as good health as possible by alleviating the effects of disease and suffering. The registered nurse may be the one who contributes or makes a difference to the older adults’ experience of health. According to this; great demands are placed on the registered nurse's leadership close to the patient. There is a common agreement that registered nurses’ leadership is important. However, research is limited of what implies registered nurses’ leadership close to older adults in municipal home care.Method. A systematic literature review. The literature search was performed in CINAHL and PubMed during February to April, 2018. A total of 37 articles were identified and nine articles were screened in full text. Quality valuation and analyses of articles were performed doing qualitative research synthesis based of the PRISMA statement.Results. The results will be presented for the first time at the 9th IAGG-ER Congress, May 23-25, 2019, Gothenburg, Sweden.

- Digital application marketplaces are increasingly relevant for digital platform owners seeking to reap the benefits of distributing, brokering, and operating applications by third-party developers. Owners of such marketplaces have two vital goals: address the needs of heterogeneous end-users and attract third-party developers. A key element in simultaneously accommodating these goals is value creation. However, while there is emerging literature on digital application marketplaces, little empirical evidence exits about the value creation process for and by application developers. Drawing on a research study of third-party developers, we synthesize the value creation perspective and digital platforms literature to develop an understanding of value creation in digital application marketplaces from the perspective of third-party developers. Our study identifies and explores six different value sources and their associated value creation and realization. In doing this, our research extends and complements existing digital platform literature and contributes new knowledge about new forms of value creation.

- Managing campaigns and promotions effectively is vital for the fashion retail industry. While retailers invest a lot of money in campaigns, customer retention is often very low. At innovative retailers, data-driven methods, aimed at understanding and ultimately optimizing campaigns are introduced. In this application paper, machine learning techniques are employed to analyze data about campaigns and promotions from a leading Swedish e-retailer. More specifically, predictive modeling is used to forecast the profitability and activation of campaigns using different kinds of promotions. In the empirical investigation, regression models are generated to estimate the profitability, and classification models are used to predict the overall success of the campaigns. In both cases, random forests are compared to individual tree models. As expected, the more complex ensembles are more accurate, but the usage of interpretable tree models makes it possible to analyze the underlying relationships, simply by inspecting the trees. In conclusion, the accuracy of the predictive models must be deemed high enough to make these data-driven methods attractive.
