- Introduction Performance of daily activities and participation are often influenced throughout life in individuals with cerebral palsy (CP), even when the person has fairly good motor functions, and executive dysfunctions may also have an impact on performance in this group. However, it has rarely been described how persons with CP themselves perceive their performance of daily activities. Aim The aim of this study was to describe the experiences that young adults with CP have of occupational performance in everyday life. Methods Qualitative interview study with ten participants with CP, MACS I-II, aged 19-30 years. The data were analysed using a phenomenographic approach. Results The interviews resulted in five categories of perceptions of occupational performance, i.e doing: “Important to do”; “Demanding but can be facilitated”; “Excludes or includes”; “Diminishes me or makes me grow”; and “Comes at a price”. Whether doing diminished the participants or made them grow depends on the outcome of doing. When performing is too demanding and/or makes the participants feel excluded, they felt diminished as human beings. Performance that is facilitated and/or provides a sense of inclusion promotes personal growth. The participants pay a high price in terms of physical deterioration, pain, stress, and fatigue in their efforts to become who they want to be through doing. Conclusions The young adults with CP consider that, despite life being so demanding, it is extremely important to perform daily activities themselves and to feel included, as this makes them grow as human beings. Person-centred intervention methods based on personally important activities should be tested in order to meet the persons’ wishes and needs in their efforts to grow through DOING. Further research is needed to develop evaluation methods of how mental fatigue manifests in individuals with CP. The multifaceted difficulties to which CP often leads should be communicated to the persons themselves to enhance their self-awareness and give them the opportunity to explain their capabilities to others.

Community mobility in older men and women - a cross-sectional and 13 years prospective perspective

- Community mobility, defined as "moving [ones] self in the community and using public or private transportation", has a unique ability to promote older peoples' wellbeing by enabling independence and access to activity arenas for interaction with others. Early predictors of decreased community mobility among older men and women are useful in developing health promoting strategies. However, long-term prediction is rare, especially when it comes to including both public and private transportation. In the present study factors associated with community mobility and decreased community mobility over time among older men and women were identified. Gender-balanced data from a project entitled "Aging in men and women: a longitudinal study of gender differences in health behavior and health among elderly" (GENDER) based on pairs of unlike-sex twins were utilized. In total, 119 men and 147 women responded to a questionnaire in 1994 and 2007. Respondents were between 82 and 96 years old at follow-up. After 13 years, 40% of men and 43% of women had decreased community mobility, but 47 % of men and 45 % of women still experienced some independent community mobility. Cross-sectional independent community mobility among men was associated with higher ratings of subjective health, reporting no depression and more involvement in sport activities. Among women, cross-sectional independent community mobility was associated with better subjective health and doing more instrumental activities of daily living outside the home. Lower subjective health predicted decreased community mobility for both men and women, whereas self-reported health conditions did not. Consequently, general policies and individual interventions aiming to improve community mobility should consider older persons' subjective health.

The Cardamine enshiensis genome reveals whole genome duplication and insight into selenium hyperaccumulation and tolerance

- Cardamine enshiensis is a well-known selenium (Se)-hyperaccumulating plant. Se is an essential trace element associated with many health benefits. Despite its critical importance, genomic information of this species is limited. Here, we report a chromosome-level genome assembly of C. enshiensis, which consists of 443.4 Mb in 16 chromosomes with a scaffold N50 of 24 Mb. To elucidate the mechanism of Se tolerance and hyperaccumulation in C. enshiensis, we generated and analyzed a dataset encompassing genomes, transcriptomes, and metabolomes. The results reveal that flavonoid, glutathione, and lignin biosynthetic pathways may play important roles in protecting C. enshiensis from stress induced by Se. Hi-C analysis of chromatin interaction patterns showed that the chromatin of C. enshiensis is partitioned into A and B compartments, and strong interactions between the two telomeres of each chromosome were correlated with histone modifications, epigenetic markers, DNA methylation, and RNA abundance. Se supplementation could affect the 3D chromatin architecture of C. enshiensis at the compartment level. Genes with compartment changes after Se treatment were involved in selenocompound metabolism, and genes in regions with topologically associated domain insulation participated in cellular responses to Se, Se binding, and flavonoid biosynthesis. This multiomics research provides molecular insight into the mechanism underlying Se tolerance and hyperaccumulation in C. enshiensis.

These are examined against the background of Swedish legislation and case law on formalised same-sex relationships and Muslim marriages. Both theories appear to enjoy support in Swedish law. Whatever model is chosen appears to depend on what best serves the legislator's or court's notion of a desirable result.

- To ensure safe storage of nuclear fuel waste, copper canisters are proposed as corrosion barrier. One alternative for sealing the copper canisters is Friction Stir Welding (FSW). During the joining process friction heat and mechanical deformation appear between the rotating tool and the material being welded. Liquid metal will not form, since this is a solid state welding process. Three distinct microstructural zones are developed namely the nugget, the thermomechanically affected zone (TMAZ) and heat-affected zone (HAZ). The nugget is in the centre of the weld, where the pin is located and where severe plastic deformation occurs that leads to recrystallisation. Surrounding the nugget, the TMAZ is only partially recrystallised, due to lower temperature increase and deformation compared to the nugget. The third zone, HAZ, surrounds the TMAZ. The initial nugget can have a classic round aluminium nugget image, when the welding conditions are cold, but the steady state nugget, is wider near the shoulder and shorter in the weld root.

- OBJECTIVES: To investigate whether perceived failure in school performance increases the potential for children to be physically injured. SUBJECTS: Children aged 10-15 years residing in the Stockholm County and hospitalised or called back for a medical check up because of a physical injury during the school years 2000-2001 and 2001-2002 (n = 592). METHODS: A case-crossover design was used and information on potential injury triggers was gathered by interview. Information about family socioeconomic circumstances was gathered by a questionnaire filled in by parents during the child interview (response rate 87%). RESULTS: Perceived failure in school performance has the potential to trigger injury within up to 10 hours subsequent to exposure (relative risk = 2.70; 95% confidence intervals = 1.2 to 5.8). The risk is significantly higher among pre-adolescents and among children from families at a higher education level. CONCLUSIONS: Experiencing feelings of failure may affect children's physical safety, in particular among pre-adolescents. Possible mechanisms are perceptual deficits and response changes occasioned by the stress experienced after exposure.

- Objective: To investigate the associations between psychiatric diagnosis in late adolescence in an unselected population and subsequent suicide attempt and suicide during 36-year follow-up. Method: A total of 49 321 Swedish men conscripted for compulsory military training in 1969/1970, born 1949-1951, were screened for psychiatric disorder and, if detected, diagnosed by a psychiatrist according to ICD-8. Data on suicides and suicide attempts 1971-2006 were collected in national registers. Results: At conscription examination, 11.7% of the cohort received a psychiatric diagnosis. Among those, increased risks of suicide 19712006 [HR = 2.7 (2.2-3.2), 624 cases] and suicide attempt 1973-2006 [HR = 3.5 (3.1-4.0), 1170 cases] were found. The increased relative risks persisted during the follow-up period 19-36 years after examination [1989-2006 suicide HR = 2.1 (1.6-2.7), 308 cases, and 1989-2006 suicide attempt HR = 2.6 (2.1-3.1), 484 cases]. The dominant diagnostic groups, neurosis and personality disorder, were significantly associated with suicide and suicide attempt in the early as well as the late follow-up period. Conclusion: Psychiatric diagnoses made in late adolescence predicted subsequent suicide and suicide attempt over a 36-year follow-up period. The increased relative risks were not limited to young adulthood but were also evident 18-36 years after conscription examination.
