    • Theory is presented that extends the analysis to signal correlation between any antennas in an array of elements. It is generalised to include non-identical elements and arbitrary load termination of passive antenna ports. The method is related to the power balance concept and based on the antenna impedance matrix.

    • Mutual coupling effects between antenna elements on signal correlation are reported. A simple expression is derived to compute the correlation coefficient from the far-field radiation patterns including the characteristics of the propagation environment and the terminating impedance. It is shown that the mutual coupling between closely spatially separated dipoles call lead to increased signal decorrelation.

  • Homogenization of corrugated interfaces in electromagnetics

    • A surface with periodic corrugations of suffciently small periodicity is shown to be electromagnetically equivalent to an inhomogeneous transition region (slab). Explicit expressions for the inhomogeneous transition region are found for one-dimensional corrugations and for two-dimensional corrugations a local elliptic problem has to be solved in order to find the equivalent electromagnetic properties. The homogenized surface can be characterized by its surface impedance dyadic or its reflection dyadic. A few numerical examples illustrate the theory.

  • Propagators and Scattering of Electromagnetic Waves in Planar Bianisotropic Slabs - An Application to Frequency Selective Structures

    • Scattering by planar geometries with plane metal inclusions are analysed. The metal inclusions can be of arbitrary shape,and the material of the supporting slabs can be any linear (bianisotropic) material. We employ the method of propagators to find the solution of the scattering problem. The method has certain similarities with a vector generalisation of the transmission line theory. A general relation between the electric fields and the surface current densities on the metal inclusions and the exciting fields is found. Special attention is paid to the case of a periodic metal pattern (frequency selective structures,FSS). The method is illustrated by a series of numerical computations.

  • Reconstruction of Equivalent Currents Using a Near-Field Data Transformation - with Radome Applications

    • Knowledge of the current distribution on a radome can be used to improve radome design, detect manufacturing errors, and to verify numerical simulations. In this paper, the transformation from near-field data to its equivalent current distribution on a surface, ie the radome, is analyzed. The transformation is based on the surface integral representation that relates the equivalent currents to the near-field data. The full vector formulation is used in the analyzis but the numerical results are limited to the scalar approximation. It is shown that defects on the radome, not localized in the measured near field, are focused and detectable on the radome surface.
