  • Culture, Health, and Religion at the Millennium: Sweden Unparadised
  • 2014
  • Samlingsverk (redaktörskap) (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • Culture, Health, and Religion at the Millennium presents interpretations of Swedish culture, health, politics, and religion today, as the image of Sweden is being transformed from the well-functioning but existentially bland economic wonder to a more pluralistic, fragmented, and gloomy society. The changing situation of contemporary Sweden means that the time is ripe to make a self-critical appraisal of the state of Sweden today. In six chapters, renowned Swedish scholars from film studies, literary studies, political science, religious studies, and theology give their interpretations of sin, culture, health, politics, and religion in contemporary Sweden, with a particular focus upon its cultural representation in popular media. This book will serve as a background of much of the contemporary boom of Swedish fiction, both in popular literature as well as on the silver screen.

    • Gothic vampire stories are more popular than ever. I will start be showing how these "chick-fang" stories offer the audience both and an enjoyable emotional experience and a fascinating Gothic romande. This forms the basis for a discussion of how modern vampire stories reflect significant contemporary trends and how they both confirm and challenge current ideas of the ideal way of a sucessful life in postmodern society.

  • Ingår i: Chick lit - brokiga läsningar och didaktiska utmaningar. Maria Nilson & Helene Ehriander (red.). - Stockholm : Liber. - 9789147105533 ; , s. 28-45

  • Early Crime Fiction in Scandinavian Literature
  • 2012
  • Ingår i: La questione Romantica. Nuova serie. - 1125-0364. ; 2:2, s. 71-81
  • Forskningsöversikt (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Detective fiction is a genre of dubious origin. In Scandinavian literature, the murky past of the genre leads back to three stories dating from late romanticism. The Scandinavian audience got its first detective in 1829, "The Rector of Vejlbye" by Steen Steensen Blicher. A decade later two other stories were published: "Skallnora kvarn" (1838)by Carl Jonas Love Almqvist and "The Murder of Engine Maker Roolfsen" (1839) by Mauritz Christopher Hansen. In this article I will elaborate my claim that these three stories constitute the emergence of Scandinavian crime ficiton; I will examine them as early examples of detective stories and show how they apply what later has been acknowledged as the 'detection formula'- I will start by analyzing the construction ofthe crime and the depiction of the detective as well as his counterpart, the criminal, in each of the three stories. I will then proceed to discuss in what way the stories relate to their time and cultural context as crime and mystery stories and in what way they set up what were to become the standard elements of detective fiction.
