- The chapter explores the transnational translation and reception of two Swedish women writers in the nineteenth-century: the romantic poet Julia Nyberg and the bestselling novelist Emilie Flygare-Carlén. As their exemples reveal, the opportunities for the translation and reception of smaller literatures changed in Euope and America during the century. This was due not only to developments in book markets and fluctuations in the political climate, but also to shifting expectation readerships and publication patterns relating to different combinations of genre, nationality and gender.

- The aim is to give a survey of Scandinavian Gothic fiction in a Global Marketplace and to demonstrate Scandinavian Gothic in relation to transnational Gothic. Firstly, the chapter presents Gothic as a flourishing part of Scandinavian crossover and young young-adult fiction. Secondly, it demonstrates in what way writers and filmmakers uses the Scandinavian landscape, the wilderness and its creatures as both antagonists and monsters. Thirdly, it shows how Gothic elements and narrative strategies are progressively being integrated into other genres to address current social issues and anxieties.

- On one of the most internationally recognised Swedish novelist of Gothic crime is Johan Theorine, with his Öland quartet: Echoes of the Dead, The Darkest Room, The Quarry, and The Voices (2007-2013). This chapter explores in what way Theorin's novels revive an old tradition in Nordic crime stories where a whodonit-plot is combined supernatural occurrences and an uncanny atmosphere. In his novels the local landscape and its particular mythology plays an active part in the crime investigation. Thus the aim of this chapter is also to demonstrate the complex relationship between location, time and focalisation and in what way Theorin's crime novels can be termed topofocal stories in which setting plays a vital and Gothic role.
