  • Study on enhancement of fluorescence with gold nanorods
  • 2008
  • Ingår i: Asia Optical Fiber Communication and Optoelectronic Exposition and Conference 2008. - : Optical Society of America. - 9781557528636
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Enhancement of fluorescence of streptavidin conjugated with gold nanorods (GNRs) was observed. The impact of GNRs with different surface plasmon resonance bands and different concentrations to the efficiency of the fluorescence enhancement was studied.

  • RETRACTED: Human-Machine Collaborative Systems for Microsurgical Applications
  • 2005
  • Ingår i: Robotics Research. - Berlin, Heidelberg : Springer Berlin/Heidelberg. - 3540232141 ; , s. 162-171
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    •  We describe our current progress in developing Human-Machine Collaborative Systems (HMCSs) for microsurgical applications such as vitreo-retinal eye surgery. Three specific problems considered here are (1) developing of systems tools for describing and implementing an HMCS, (2) segmentation of complex tasks into logical components given sensor traces of a human performing the task, and (3) measuring HMCS performance. Our goal is to integrate these into a full microsurgical workstation with the ability to automatically 11 parse" traces of user execution into a task model which is then loaded into the execution environment, providing the user with assistance using online recognition of task state. The major contributions of our work to date include an XML task graph modeling framework and execution engine, an algorithm for real-time segmentation of user actions using continuous Hidden Markov Models, and validation techniques for analyzing the performance of HMCSs.

  • ATCA-based Computation Platform for Data Acquisition and Triggering in Particle Physics Experiments
  • 2008
  • Ingår i: 2008 INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON FIELD PROGRAMMABLE AND LOGIC APPLICATIONS, VOLS 1 AND 2. ; , s. 287-292
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • An ATCA-based computation platform for data acquisition and trigger applications in nuclear and particle physics experiments has been developed. Each Compute Node (CN) which appears as a Field Replaceable Unit (FRU) in an ATCA shelf, features 5 Xilinx Virtex-4 FX60 FPGAs and up to 10 GBytes DDR2 memory. Connectivity is provided with 8 optical links and 5 Gigabit Ethernet ports, which are mounted on each board to receive data from detectors and forward results to outer shelves or PC farms with attached mass storage. Fast point-to-point on-board interconnections between FPGAs as well as the full-mesh shelf backplane provide flexibility and high bandwidth to partition algorithms and correlate results among them. The system represents a highly reconfigurable and scalable solution for multiple applications.

  • Trigger algorithm development on FPGA-based Compute Nodes
  • 2009
  • Ingår i: 2009 16th IEEE-NPSS Real Time Conference. - New York : IEEE. - 9781424457960 ; , s. 478-484
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Based on the ATCA computation architecture and Compute Nodes (CN), investigation and implementation work has been being executed for HADES and PANDA trigger algorithms. We present our designs for HADES track reconstruction processing, Cherenkov ring recognition, Time-Of-Flight processing, electromagnetic shower recognition.. and the PANDA straw tube tracking algorithm. They will appear as co-processors in the uniform system design to undertake the detector-specific computing. The algorithm principles will be explained and hardware designs are described in the paper. The current progress reveals the feasibility to implement these algorithms on FPGAs. Also experimental results demonstrate the performance speedup when compared to alternative software solutions, as well as the potential capability of high-speed parallel/pipelined processing in Data Acquisition and Trigger systems.

  • On sequences with good correlation properties : A new perspective
  • 2007
  • Ingår i: Proceedings of the 2007 IEEE Information Theory Workshop on Information Theory for Wireless Networks. - 9781424411993 ; , s. 52-56
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The so-called merit factor approach (MFA) to radar binary sequence design has led to several theoretical contributions in fairly diverse research areas including information theory, computer science, combinatorial optimization, and analytical number theory. However, the pragmatic motivation of this approach is shown here to be questionable. Specifically, the MFA - which basically aims at minimizing the clutter effect on radar performance - implicitly assumes the use of a least-squares (LS) receiver that is optimal only when there is no clutter. This apparent inconsistency in the problem formulation can be eliminated by using a more general optimal instrumental-variables (M receiver in lieu of the LS receiver. The IV receiver proposed here is shown to reject clutter much more efficiently than the LS receiver. Additionally, the binary sequence design problem associated with the IV receiver is shown to have an interesting form that is likely to attract the attention of the readers previously interested in the MFA.

  • Transmit codes and receive filters for pulse compression radar systems
  • 2008
  • Ingår i: 2008 IEEE INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON ACOUSTICS, SPEECH AND SIGNAL PROCESSING, VOLS 1-12. - 9781424414833 ; , s. 3649-3652
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Pulse compression radar systems make use of transmit code sequences and receive filters that are specially designed to achieve good range resolution and target detection capability at practically acceptable transmit peak power levels. The present paper is a contribution to the literature on the problem of designing transmit codes and receive filters for radar. In a nutshell: the main goal of this paper, which considers the cases of both negligible and non-negligible Doppler shifts, is to show how to design the receive filter (including its length) and the transmit code sequence via. the optimization of a number of relevant metrics considered separately or in combination. The paper also contains several numerical studies whose aim is to illustrate the performance of the proposed designs.
