  • Surface morphology, structural and optical properties of polar and non-polar ZnO thin films : A comparative study
  • 2009
  • Ingår i: Journal of Crystal Growth. - : Elsevier BV. - 0022-0248. ; 311:19, s. 4398-4401
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The polar and non-polar ZnO thin films were fabricated on cubic MgO (1 1 1) and (0 0 1) substrates by plasma-assisted molecular beam epitaxy. Based on X-ray diffraction analysis, the ZnO thin films grown on MgO (1 1 1) and (1 0 0) substrates exhibit the polar c-plane and non-polar m-plane orientation, respectively. Comparing with the c-plane ZnO film, the non-polar m-plane ZnO film shows cross-hatched stripes-like morphology, lower surface roughness and slower growth rate. However, low-temperature photoluminescence measurement indicates the m-plane ZnO film has a stronger 3.31 eV emission, which is considered to be related to stacking faults. Meanwhile, stronger band tails absorbance of the m-plane ZnO film is observed in optical absorption spectrum.

  • High permittivity in zr doped NiO ceramics
  • 2007
  • Ingår i: Journal of Applied Physics. - : American Institute of Physics (AIP). - 0021-8979 .- 1089-7550. ; 102:3, s. 034103-
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We report on measurements of the dielectric permittivity of NiO-based ceramics doped with Zr (ZNO). Samples were prepared by the traditional solid-state reaction method. The concentration of Zr has an effect on the dielectric properties of ZNO ceramics. High permittivity values (similar to 10(4)) were observed which remain almost constant from 200 K to 350 K at low frequencies. The high-dielectric-constant response of the ZNO ceramics is attributed mainly to a grain boundary (internal) barrier layer capacitance. (c) 2007 American Institute of Physics.

  • Arsenic trioxide reduces the invasive and metastatic properties of nasopharyngeal carcinoma cells in vitro
  • 2006
  • Ingår i: Brazilian journal of medical and biological research. - 0100-879X .- 1414-431X. ; 39:5, s. 677-685
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) is notorious for the metastases, which are in close association with Epstein-Barr virus-encoded latent membrane protein 1 (LMP1). Arsenic trioxide (As2O3) has been shown to induce apoptosis and differentiation in NPC xenografts. Then, can it repress the cancer cells' metastasis potential? To elucidate this issue, the present study was performed. LMP1-negative cell line HNE1 and LMP1-positive cell line HNE1-LMP1 were used as in vitro model. Cells (1 × 105/mL) were cultured with or without 3 μM As2O3 for 48 h. Then the survival cells were collected to investigate their potential of colony formation, attachment, invasion, and migration. Both confocal immunofluorescence staining and Western blot were used to detect the changes of LMP1 expression. The changes of MMP-9 were examined by RT-PCR assay and Western blot. The results were as follow: i) the colony formation inhibition rate (75.41 ± 3.9% in HNE1-LMP1 cells vs 37.89 ± 4.9% in HNE1 cells), the rate of attachment (HNE1-LMP1 vs HNE1: 56.40 ± 3.5 vs 65.87 ± 5.9%), the invasion inhibitory rate (HNE1-LMP1 vs HNE1: 56.50 ± 3.7 and 27.91 ± 2.1%), and the migration inhibitory rate (HNE1-LMP1 vs HNE1: 48.70 ± 3.9 vs 29.19 ± 6.27%) were all significantly different between the two cell lines (P < 0.01). ii) LMP1 was down-regulated in As2O3-treated HNE1-LMP1 cells. iii) The reduction of MMP-9 was found in As2O3-treated groups, more evident in HNE1-LMP1 cells. Thus, we conclude that As2O3 can reduce metastasis potential of NPC cells, involving inhibition of MMP-9 expression. LMP1 were also reduced in this process and seemed to enhance anti-metastasis activity of As2O3. © 2006 Brazilian Journal of Medical and Biological Research.

  • Application of weak ferromagnetic BiFeO3 films as the photoelectrode material under visible-light irradiation
  • 2007
  • Ingår i: Applied Physics Letters. - : American Institute of Physics (AIP). - 0003-6951 .- 1077-3118. ; 91:2, s. 022114-
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • BiFeO3 films prepared by pulsed laser deposition on Pt/TiO2/SiO2/Si substrates were studied as photoelectrode for water splitting. Under visible-light irradiation, the photocurrent intensity of the polycrystalline BiFeO3 film was found to double that of the amorphous one in a three-electrode cell. The incident photon to current conversion efficiency for the polycrystalline BiFeO3 electrode was approximately 16% at 350 nm and 7% at 530 nm at 1.5 V (versus saturated calomel electrode). The ferromagnetism of the amorphous BiFeO3 film was an order of magnitude weaker than that of the polycrystalline one, supporting the "size effect" explanation for magnetic origin. • Preparation of aligned Ca3Co2O6 nanorods and their steplike magnetization
  • 2007
  • Ingår i: Applied Physics Letters. - : American Institute of Physics (AIP). - 0003-6951 .- 1077-3118. ; 91:4, s. 042505-
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Well-aligned Ca3Co2O6 nanorods (similar to 300 nm in length and similar to 40 nm in diameter) on Si substrates are prepared by pulsed laser deposition. The steplike magnetization feature as identified in bulk Ca3Co2O6 can be retained in the nanorods in spite of the enhanced distortion of the magnetically ordered spin chains due to the finite size effect. The out-of-plane magnetization value is slightly larger than the in-plane value, which shows the small magnetic anisotropy. An additional distinct transition at 54 K associated with the spin frustration is revealed, different from the bulk samples. (C) 2007 American Institute of Physics.

  • Steplike magnetocapacitance and dielectric relaxation in spin frustrated Ca(3)Co(2)O(6)
  • 2008
  • Ingår i: Journal of Applied Physics. - : American Institute of Physics (AIP). - 0021-8979 .- 1089-7550. ; 104:5, s. 054111-
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The dielectric relaxation and magnetocapacitance effect of one-dimensional spin frustrated compound Ca(3)Co(2)O(6) are investigated. The steplike magnetocapacitance effect is observed and one to one corresponds to the steplike magnetization. We explain this phenomenon from the spin configuration dependent dielectric response. The simulation results using the Monte Carlo method are in good agreement with experimental data at low temperature. The close correspondence between the magnetic and dielectric properties indicates that the coupling is the intrinsic character of Ca(3)Co(2)O. The steplike magnetocapacitance effect may find potential applications in data storage and sensors. (C) 2008 American Institute of Physics.

  • Down-regulation of tumor necrosis factor-associated factor 6 is associated with progression of acute pancreatitis complicating lung injury in mice
  • 2009
  • Ingår i: Tohoku Journal of Experimental Medicine. - : Tohoku University Medical Press. - 0040-8727 .- 1349-3329. ; 217:4, s. 279-285
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Acute lung injury is one of the critical complications of acute pancreatitis (AP). Tumor necrosis factor-associated factor 6 (TRAF6) is a key adaptor that regulates various inflammatory signaling pathways, including those mediated by Toll-like receptors (TLRs). This study was performed to investigate the potential role of TRAF6 in the pathogenesis of AP and pancreatitis-associated acute lung injury using a mouse model of caerulein-induced AP (CAP). CAP was induced by intraperitoneal injection of caerulein hourly for 7 times (50 µg/kg), and control mice were treated with saline of the same volume. Typical pancreatic and lung inflammation was observed in the early stage (1 h) of CAP, as judged by morphological changes. Likewise, in CAP mice, the pancreatic myeloperoxidase activity and serum levels of interleukin-6 add interleukin-10 were significantly increased after 2 h, peaked it 4h, and then decreased by 24 h. The expression of TRAF6 was then studied by real time-PCR, immunohistochemistry, and Western blot analysis. Compared with control group, TRAF6 mRNA level was decreased in CAP group within the first 12 h, and then significantly increased after 24 h, which was in accordance with the protein level detected by Western blot analysis and immunohistochemistry. Moreover, TRAF6 protein was expressed in both pancreatic acinar cells and lung bronchial epithelial cells. In conclusion, the down-regulation of TRAF6 was associated with increased inflammatory severity in the pancreas and lung, suggesting that TRAF6 is involved in the anti-inflammatory process during AP. TRAF6 may be a potential molecular target for treating AP.
