  • Effect of different hand-milking techniques on milk production and teat treatment in Zebu dairy cattle
  • 2012
  • Ingår i: Tropical Animal Health and Production. - : Springer Science and Business Media LLC. - 0049-4747 .- 1573-7438. ; 44, s. 1017-1025
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The aim of the study was to test three different hand-milking techniques ("pull down", "thumb in", and "full hand grip") and their effects on milk production and teat treatment. This is important since milk production in many tropical areas still rely on hand-milking. The study was carried out at a peri-urban farm in the Bobo-Dioulasso area in Burkina Faso. Twelve indigenous Zebu cows in early lactation were used in the study. The sequences of the treatments (hand-milking techniques) and the milkers were balanced for carry-over effects between successive periods and days, respectively. The sequences were constructed by using special Latin squares. Yield and composition of saleable milk was not affected by milking technique but there were differences between the milkers in milk yield. There was also a significant interaction for saleable milk yield between milker and milking technique. Hemoglobin in milk was measured as an indicator of teat damage. The hemoglobin content was numerically higher in post-milking strip milk samples than in saleable milk. It was concluded that the amount of milk removed depends mainly on the milker and how well the milking technique works for the individual milker. No effect of milking technique was observed on teat treatment.

  • Necessary and Sufficient Conditions for Stability of LMS
  • 1996
  • Rapport (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • In a recent work (7), some general results on exponential stability of random linear equations are established which can be applied directly to the performance analysis of a wide class of adaptive algorithms including the basic LMS ones without requiring stationarity independency and boundedness assumptions of the system signals The current paper attempts to give a complete characterization of the exponential stability of the LMS algorithms by providing a necessary and sucient condition for such a stability in the case of possibly unbounded nonstationary and non ?mixing signals The results of this paper can be applied to a very large class of signals including those generated fromeg a Gaussian process via a timevarying linear lter As an application several novel and extended results on convergence and tracking performance of LMS are derived under various assumptions Neither stationarity nor Markov chain assumptions are necessarily required in the paper

  • Smart clothing system for respiratory monitoring : wearability and user acceptance study
  • 2014
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Functionality, wearability, and user acceptance are critical issues for the development and eventual commercialization of the smart products. The use of smart clothing for medical reasons requires an understanding of the users’ perspective and the willingness to use the products. In this study, a smart clothing system has been developed for respiratory monitoring. Besides the functionality, the wearability from users' perspective has been considered though the design phases. Wearability and user acceptance have been examined by two questionnaires. Results shown the smart clothing system improves comfort and wearability compared with the ordinary respiratory monitoring device and most of the participants believe that using a smart clothing system will improve both health condition and quality of life.

  • Spinodal Decomposition of Ti0.33Al0.67N Thin Films Studied by Atom Probe Tomography
  • Annan publikation (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • The decomposition of Ti0.33Al0.67N thin films deposited by cathodic arc evaporation have been studied by atom probe tomography.  As-deposited films were found to deviate slightly from a random solid solution, and so be in the earliest stage of decomposition. After annealing at 900 °C for 2 h the films exhibited a spinodally decomposed nanostructure, in an intermediate stage. N was found to preferentially segregate to the Al-rich domains in the annealed sample, causing the TiN-domains to be understoichiometric.  A possible Kirkendall effect was detected for the annealed sample, with a modulation of the local stoichiometry by 1-2 at. % along the decomposition gradient.

  • Measuring Enzyme Kinetics of Glycoside Hydrolases Using the 3, 5-Dinitrosalicylic Acid Assay
  • 2023. - 2
  • Ingår i: Carbohydrate-Protein Interactions. - New York : Springer Nature. ; 2657, s. 15-25
  • Bokkapitel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Use of the 3,5-dinitrosalicylic acid reagent allows the simple, rapid quantification of reducing sugars. The method can be used for analysis of biological samples or in characterization of enzyme reactions, as new reducing ends are generated when a polysaccharide substrate undergoes hydrolytic cleavage. Presented here is an application of the method in measuring the kinetics of a glycoside hydrolase reaction, including the optimization of the DNSA reagent, and the production of a standard curve of absorbance versus sugar concentration.

  • Experimental performance evaluation of solar still with zig-zag shape air cooled condenser: An energy-exergy analysis approach
  • 2023
  • Ingår i: Energy Reports. - : ELSEVIER. - 2352-4847. ; 10, s. 1198-1210
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • In the present experimental effort is made to increase the performance of a solar still (SS) by including a novel design of a zig-zag-shaped air-cooled condenser (ZZACC) and cuprous oxide (CuO) as a nanomaterial. Research work is conducted in the climatic conditions of Gandhinagar, Gujarat, India, from September to November 2020. A comparison was made to assess the performance of a conventional solar still (CSS) and a solar still equipped with a zig-zag shape air-cooled condenser (SSWZZACC) with CuO. The experiments findings showed that adding CuO to SSWZZACC increases the distillate production by 46.83% and the daily energy efficiency by 45.98%, respectively, compared to CSS. Also, SSWZZACC demonstrates a better efficiency of exergy and latent heat of vaporization than CSS because CuO causes an increase in the evaporative heat transfer coefficient of water. In life cycle cost analysis study discovered that SSWZZACC has a 27.77% lower cost per litre of water (CPL) than CSS. The obtained maximum energy and exergy efficiency values for CSS and SSWZZACC were 2.36% & 25.75% and 3.9% & 37.59%, respectively. In economic and environmental aspects, it was found that SSWZZACC with CuO showed a cost-effective desalination unit and was highly effective from a carbon credit point of view (CCP) by CO2 mitigation.& COPY; 2023 The Author(s). • A Game-Theoretic Framework for Security-Aware Sensor Placement Problem in Networked Control Systems
  • 2022
  • Ingår i: IEEE Transactions on Automatic Control. - : Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE). - 0018-9286 .- 1558-2523. ; 67:7, s. 3699-3706
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This article studies the sensor placement problem in a leader-follower networked control system for improving its security against cyber-physical attacks. In a zero-sum game, the attacker selects f nodes of the network to attack, and the detector places f sensors to detect the presence of the attack signals. In our formulation, the attacker's objective is to have a large impact on a target node in the network while being as little visible as possible to the detector. The detector, however, seeks to maximize the visibility of the attack signals. The effects of the attack signals on both the target node and the detector node are captured via the system L-2 gain from the attack signals to the target node and deployed sensors' outputs, respectively. The equilibrium strategy of the game determines the optimal locations of the sensors. The existence of Nash equilibrium for the single-attack single-sensor case is studied when the underlying connectivity graph is a directed or an undirected tree. We show that, under the optimal sensor placement strategy, an undirected topology provides a higher security level for a networked control system compared to its corresponding directed topology. For the multiple-attack multiple-sensor case, we show that the game does not necessarily admit a Nash equilibrium and introduce a Stackelberg game approach, where the detector acts as the leader. Finally, these results are used to study the sensor placement problem in a vehicle platooning application in the presence of bias injection attacks.
