  • Numerical and experiment study on ventilation performance of the equipment compartment of Alpine high-speed train
  • 2023
  • Ingår i: Engineering Applications of Computational Fluid Mechanics. - 1994-2060 .- 1997-003X. ; 17:1
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Alpine High-Speed Train serves on the Lanzhou-Urumqi Line in northwest China, where the terrain is mainly the Gobi Desert. To adapt to this complex environment, the independent-air duct is mainly used for the electrical facilities inside the equipment compartment to prevent the spread of sand particles. This isolated air duct makes ventilation characteristics of the equipment susceptible to the external environment. For this reason, this work aims to clarify and investigate the ventilation characteristic of electrical facilities. A two-step simulation method using IDDES (Improved Delayed Detached Eddy Simulation) and a real-vehicle tracking test using the T-typed pitot tubes were conducted. In the simulation, it is found that the ventilation performance can be influenced by the location of the equipment compartment, facilities and the fan mounted inside. By comparing the results of the test and simulation, they share the same characteristic that the air outlet volume of the converter near the head car is being promoted while it near the tail car is being inhibited. The maximum deviation ratio between the test and simulation is 9%. Therefore, the measurement method in this study is relatively reliable.

  • Distinct germline genetic susceptibility profiles identified for common non-Hodgkin lymphoma subtypes
  • 2022
  • Ingår i: Leukemia. - : Springer Nature. - 0887-6924 .- 1476-5551. ; 36:12, s. 2835-2844
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Lymphoma risk is elevated for relatives with common non-Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL) subtypes, suggesting shared genetic susceptibility across subtypes. To evaluate the extent of mutual heritability among NHL subtypes and discover novel loci shared among subtypes, we analyzed data from eight genome-wide association studies within the InterLymph Consortium, including 10,629 cases and 9505 controls. We utilized Association analysis based on SubSETs (ASSET) to discover loci for subsets of NHL subtypes and evaluated shared heritability across the genome using Genome-wide Complex Trait Analysis (GCTA) and polygenic risk scores. We discovered 17 genome-wide significant loci (P < 5 × 10−8) for subsets of NHL subtypes, including a novel locus at 10q23.33 (HHEX) (P = 3.27 × 10−9). Most subset associations were driven primarily by only one subtype. Genome-wide genetic correlations between pairs of subtypes varied broadly from 0.20 to 0.86, suggesting substantial heterogeneity in the extent of shared heritability among subtypes. Polygenic risk score analyses of established loci for different lymphoid malignancies identified strong associations with some NHL subtypes (P < 5 × 10−8), but weak or null associations with others. Although our analyses suggest partially shared heritability and biological pathways, they reveal substantial heterogeneity among NHL subtypes with each having its own distinct germline genetic architecture.

  • Circulating adipokine concentrations and risk of five obesity-related cancers : A Mendelian randomization study.
  • 2021
  • Ingår i: International Journal of Cancer. - : John Wiley & Sons. - 0020-7136 .- 1097-0215. ; 148:7, s. 1625-1636
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Obesity is considered a chronic inflammatory state characterized by continued secretion of adipokines and cytokines. Experimental and epidemiological evidence indicates that circulating adipokines may be associated with the development of obesity-related cancers, but it is unclear if these associations are causal or confounded. We examined potential causal associations of specific adipokines (adiponectin, leptin, soluble leptin receptor [sOB-R] and plasminogen activator inhibitor-1 [PAI-1]) with five obesity-related cancers (colorectal, pancreatic, renal cell carcinoma [RCC], ovarian and endometrial) using Mendelian randomization (MR) methods. We used summary-level data from large genetic consortia for 114 530 cancer cases and 245 284 controls. We constructed genetic instruments using 18 genetic variants for adiponectin, 2 for leptin and 4 for both sOB-R and PAI-1 (P value for inclusion<5 × 10-8 ). Causal estimates were obtained using two-sample MR methods. In the inverse-variance weighted models, we found an inverse association between adiponectin and risk of colorectal cancer (odds ratio per 1 μg/mL increment in adiponectin concentration: 0.90 [95% confidence interval = 0.84-0.97]; P = .01); but, evidence of horizontal pleiotropy was detected and the association was not present when this was taken into consideration. No association was found for adiponectin and risks of pancreatic cancer, RCC, ovarian cancer and endometrial cancer. Leptin, sOB-R and PAI-1 were also similarly unrelated to risk of obesity-related cancers. Despite the large sample size, our MR analyses do not support causal effects of circulating adiponectin, leptin, sOB-R and PAI-1 concentrations on the development of five obesity-related cancers.

  • Integration of multiomic annotation data to prioritize and characterize inflammation and immune-related risk variants in squamous cell lung cancer
  • 2021
  • Ingår i: Genetic Epidemiology. - : John Wiley & Sons. - 0741-0395 .- 1098-2272. ; 45:1, s. 99-114
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Clinical trial results have recently demonstrated that inhibiting inflammation by targeting the interleukin-1 beta pathway can offer a significant reduction in lung cancer incidence and mortality, highlighting a pressing and unmet need to understand the benefits of inflammation-focused lung cancer therapies at the genetic level. While numerous genome-wide association studies (GWAS) have explored the genetic etiology of lung cancer, there remains a large gap between the type of information that may be gleaned from an association study and the depth of understanding necessary to explain and drive translational findings. Thus, in this study we jointly model and integrate extensive multiomics data sources, utilizing a total of 40 genome-wide functional annotations that augment previously published results from the International Lung Cancer Consortium (ILCCO) GWAS, to prioritize and characterize single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) that increase risk of squamous cell lung cancer through the inflammatory and immune responses. Our work bridges the gap between correlative analysis and translational follow-up research, refining GWAS association measures in an interpretable and systematic manner. In particular, reanalysis of the ILCCO data highlights the impact of highly associated SNPs from nuclear factor-kappa B signaling pathway genes as well as major histocompatibility complex mediated variation in immune responses. One consequence of prioritizing likely functional SNPs is the pruning of variants that might be selected for follow-up work by over an order of magnitude, from potentially tens of thousands to hundreds. The strategies we introduce provide informative and interpretable approaches for incorporating extensive genome-wide annotation data in analysis of genetic association studies.

  • A Novel MIMO-SAR Echo Separation Solution for Reducing the System Complexity : Spectrum Preprocessing and Segment Synthesis
  • 2023
  • Ingår i: IEEE Transactions on Geoscience and Remote Sensing. - 0196-2892. ; 61
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The problem of echo separation using digital beamforming (DBF) on receive for multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) synthetic aperture radar (SAR) is of notable importance to allow for practical systems. Regrettably, current DBF-MIMO-SAR schemes, such as the short-term shift-orthogonal (STSO) scheme, are computationally cumbersome, increasing the required hardware complexity. To alleviate this problem, we here propose an improved echo separation solution for realizing a low-cost MIMO-SAR system. We detail a generic waveform design scheme and optimized monostatic radar waveforms (e.g., nonlinear frequency modulation (NLFM) signal), showing how these can be directly adopted in the proposed scheme to improve imaging performance. The proposed scheme enables the number of interference segments generated by unmatched waveforms to be halved by the use of the fast time spectrum preprocessing and segment synthesis, dramatically simplifying the array configuration, and reduces the system complexity. By exploiting interpulse phase coding techniques, the proposed method can provide a reconfigurable waveform transmitting scheme, allowing the system resources in range frequency, elevation space, and Doppler domains to be jointly exploited for the separation of aliased signal returns. The proposed scheme is evaluated using extensive numerical and measured datasets, demonstrating the feasibility and potential of the proposed method for resource-limited spaceborne/airborne MIMO-SAR systems.

  • A Combined Multi-Level Perspective and Agent-Based Modeling in Low-Carbon Transition Analysis
  • 2020
  • Ingår i: Energies. - : MDPI. - 1996-1073. ; 13:19
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Low-carbon transitions are long-term complex processes that are driven by multiple factors. To provide a theoretical and practical framework of this process, we argue that the combination of the multi-level perspective (MLP) and agent-based modeling (ABM) enables us to reach a deeper and detailed analysis of low-carbon transitions. As an extensively applied theoretical form, MLP conceptualizes low-carbon transitions as a nonlinear process and allows a system to be analyzed and organized into multiple dimensions (landscape, regime, and niche). However, MLP cannot explain the many details of complex transitions, whereas ABM can estimate the influence of interacting behaviors in a complex system. Therefore, the main advantages of the combined approach for the analysis of low-carbon transition are verified: the MLP can contribute to the overall design of ABM, and ABM can provide a dynamic, continuous, and quantitative description of the MLP. To construct this combination framework, this paper offers a guiding principle that combines the two perspectives under a low-carbon transitional background to create an integrated strategy using three procedures: defining the common concepts, their interaction, and their combination. Through the proposed framework, the goal of this work was to reach a better understanding of social system evolution from the present high-carbon state to a low-carbon state under the pressure of ambitious climate goals, providing specific policy recommendations.

  • An Agent-based Model Study on Subsidy Fraud in Technological Transition
  • 2022
  • Ingår i: ICAART: Proceedings Of The 14Th International Conference On Agents And Artificial Intelligence - Vol 1. - : INSTICC. ; , s. 353-358
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The evolution of a society is inextricably linked to technological transition, which is based on both innovation and dissemination of technologies. To protect the vulnerable new generation of technology, government subsidies are one of the most common and effective tools. However, not all subsidy policies can lead to a healthy development of market shares. Subsidy fraud is one of the most problematic issues that can arise under an imperfect system. This paper identifies an interesting subsidy fraud like phenomenon via a validated agent-based model. After analysing the mechanism of the transition of technology in the model, we drive the condition upon which subsidy fraud could occur.

  • Multi-agent simulation of the effects of Japanese electricity market policies on the low-carbon transition
  • 2024
  • Ingår i: Energy Strategy Reviews. - : Elsevier BV. - 2211-467X .- 2211-4688. ; 52
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Market policies play a crucial role in facilitating the transition to a low-carbon society by restructuring the electricity market and influencing stakeholder behavior. Policymakers are concerned with how to implement these policies in terms of their intensity, combination, and timing. However, existing research lacks effective simulation tools that can accurately capture the impact of market policies on individual decision-making in the electricity sector, which is essential to represent the complex impacts of the policy mix. To address this gap, we present an agent-based model for analyzing the Low Carbon Transition (LCT) in the electricity sector. Using the Japanese electricity sector as a case study, we design various subsidies, incentives, and liberalization policy scenarios to evaluate the role of market policies in facilitating LCT. We observed that, within the Feed-in Premium (FIP) system, above a subsidy threshold of 2 JPY/kWh or 20% of the electricity cost leads to overcompensation, resulting in a stagnation of LCT promotion. To address this stagnation, it is imperative to not only enhance demand-side incentives, such as carbon taxes but also expedite the advancement of the free trade market to prevent market-induced stagnation. A synergistic implementation of these three policies is crucial for the most efficient progression of LCT.
