    • Sb2S3 nanowires with high aspect ratios have been successfully prepared on a large scale using SbCl3 and Na2S as starting materials in ethylene glycol at 200°C for 10 h. Field emission scanning electron microscopy images and transmission electron microscopy images show that the nanowires have diameters in the range of 20–100 nm and lengths up to 50 μm. Diffuse reflection spectrum indicates that the as-prepared Sb2S3 nanowires have obvious quantum size effects. The effects of reaction parameters on the growth of nanowires were discussed. A possible mechanism on the formation of the Sb2S3 nanowires was proposed.

    • The extractant nonylthiourea (NTH) in chloroform has been investigated for the extraction of Pt(IV) from chloride solutions at ionic strength of I = 4.0 M and at 22degreesC. It has been found that chloride concentration has a negative effect on the extraction equilibrium, while proton concentration has no effect. The numerical analysis of the equilibrium data has shown that the extraction of PtCl62- with NTH can be interpreted by the formation Of PtCl4(NTH) and PtCl4(NTH)(4) species with their respective equilibrium constants of log K-11 = 5.06 +/- 0.01 and log K-14 = 14.12 +/- 0.04 in 4 M HCl. FTIR spectra of the free NTH and the NTH-Pt(IV) complex were studied to obtain some information on the interaction between Pt(IV) ions and NTH molecules.

  • Reverse Link Capacity of Power-Controlled CDMA Systems with Antenna Arrays In a Multipath Fading Environment

    • In this paper, reverse link capacity of a signal-to-interference ratio (SIR) based power-controlled direct-sequence code-division multiple-access (DS-CDMA) system, with the use of an antenna array and a Rake receiver in a multiple cell environment, is investigated. Both transmit and receive beamforming in the reverse link are considered. Instead of using tedious iterative methods, reverse link user capacity represented by a simple closed-form expression is derived, which relates to the number of antennas, the number of Rake receiver fingers, a target SIR, and the processing gain. The most efficient distribution of antenna elements between the base stations and the mobile stations to maximize the user capacity is observed through the numerical results, which also show significant capacity improvement by increasing the number of the antennas and Rake receiver fingers.

    • A novel supramolecule [HgCl2(ptz)]2·HgCl2 (ptz = phenothiazine) with uncoordinated inorganic salt HgCl2 presented in a 1D chain was first prepared and then successfully applied as a new precursor in the preparation of submicrometer Hg2Cl2 rods. Single crystal X-ray analysis showed that the 1D chain structure is stabilized by hydrogen bonds between adjacent chains and the coordination mode of the ligand phenothiazine is unusual with large steric inhibition other than the chain directions. The results revealed that the particular chain structure plays a significant role in the formation of the Hg2Cl2 rods.

    • A novel supermolecule [HgBr2(ptz)]2 · HgBr2 (ptz=phenothiazine) with uncoordinated inorganic salt HgBr2 presented in a 1D chain was prepared. The bulky ligand phenothiazine has unusual coordination mode with large steric inhibition perpendicular to the chain direction. The uncoordinated HgBr2 molecule was stabilized by multiple weak Hg⋯Br interactions and the whole structure was also stabilized by strong π–π interactions and N–H⋯Br hydrogen bonds to form 2D network.
