  • Osseointegrated implants in edentulous jaws: a 2-year longitudinal study.
  • 1990
  • Ingår i: International Journal of Oral & Maxillofacial Implants. - 0882-2786 .- 1942-4434. ; 5:2, s. 155-163
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Osseointegrated implants in 50 edentulous jaws were studied during a 2-year observation period. The implant survival rate was 89% in the maxillae and 97% in the mandibles. The marginal bone loss averaged 1.7 mm in the maxillae and 1.1 mm in the mandibles. Most of this bone loss occurred during the first year. The bone loss was greater in jaws with a preoperatively minor resorption of the alveolar ridge than in those with moderate or advanced resorption. The bone loss was also greater at the medially positioned implants than at those more posterior.

  • Direct bone anchorage of oral implants: clinical and experimental considerations of the concept of osseointegration.
  • 1990
  • Ingår i: The International journal of prosthodontics. - 0893-2174. ; 3:1, s. 30-41
  • Forskningsöversikt (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The term osseointegration is analyzed in relation to its theoretical and clinical definitions, and comparisons are made to other implant modalities. The term osseointegration has a clear clinical meaning, but there is doubt about its precise usage in an experimental setting. Clinically, an implant can be described as osseointegrated if there is no discernable movement when force is applied to the fixture. This is in contrast to implants surrounded by fibrous connective tissue, which move within soft tissue. Newly developed laboratory techniques may be used in the future to precisely characterize osseointegration in the laboratory.

  • Radiographic study of structural changes in the temporomandibular joint after oblique sliding osteotomy : comparison between the extra-oral and intra-oral approaches.
  • 1990
  • Ingår i: Dento-Maxillo-Facial Radiology. - 0250-832X .- 1476-542X. ; 19:4, s. 145-148
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Oblique sliding osteotomy of the mandibular rami was performed on 41 patients by either an intra-oral (21 patients) or extra-oral (20 patients) approach. The temporomandibular joints were radiographed preoperatively and then immediately and 18 months postoperatively. Signs of structural changes were recorded so as to compare the two approaches to osteotomy. The most common findings following the operation were signs of sclerosis and bone remodelling in 85% and 73% respectively of the two groups but these differences were not statistically significant.

  • Marginal bacterial leakage and pulp reactions in Class II composite resin restorations in vivo.
  • 1990
  • Ingår i: Swedish dental journal. - 0347-9994. ; 14:4, s. 185-92
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The presence of stainable bacteria under restorations and pulp reactions in 36 teeth restored in vivo with a modified Class II composite resin restoration with two different dentine treatment techniques were studied on three separate follow-up occasions (1-3, 7-10 and 28-32 days). Half of the cavities showed stainable bacteria at the cavity margins and bottoms. Teeth restored with method A (Gluma/Occlusin) showed significantly fewer restorations with stainable bacteria then teeth restored with method B (Life/Occlusin) (p less than 0.05). Significantly more restorations with detectable bacteria were found after 28-32 days and restorative method B (p less than 0.05). There were no differences in occurrence and grade of pulp inflammation for the different dentine treatment techniques and time periods.

  • Clinical report on the success of 47 consecutively placed Core-Vent implants followed from 3 months to 4 years.
  • 1990
  • Ingår i: The International journal of oral & maxillofacial implants. - 0882-2786. ; 5:1, s. 53-60
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This report presents the clinical outcome of 47 consecutively placed Core-Vent implants inserted in 35 patients followed for 2 to 4 years by clinical and 3 to 48 months by radiographic examination. The implants were used in mandibles and maxillae to support single crowns, overdentures, and fixed prostheses splinted to natural teeth as recommended by the manufacturer. Of the 47 implants, 43 could be examined. A total of 11 implants was removed, nine because of progressive vertical bone loss and two because of fractures. The vertical bone loss was calculated for the 32 remaining implants. Twenty-eight implants demonstrated a bone loss of more than 2 mm and 16 showed a loss of more than one-third of the implant height. According to the criteria proposed by Schnitman and Shulman in 1979, the total success rate was 37.2%. When using the criteria suggested by Albrektsson et al in 1986, the total success rate was calculated to be 9.3%.

  • Macroscopic, microscopic and radiologic assessment of the condylar part of the TMJ in elderly subjects. An autopsy study.
  • 1990
  • Ingår i: Swedish dental journal. - 0347-9994. ; 14:4, s. 163-9
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Thirty-seven temporomandibular joints were examined in an autopsy study. The sizes and forms of the condyles were found to be in good agreement with earlier presented results. Structural changes were found in 16 condyles (38%) in the macroscopic examination, while radiographically diagnosed erosions were found in 8 (21%). Twenty-two (59%) of the discs examined had either perforations, roughness or attenuations. Anterior disc position was found in 3 discs, and always in combination with a perforation of the disc.

  • Proximo-occlusal composite restorations in primary molars: marginal adaptation, bacterial penetration, and pulpal reactions.
  • 1990
  • Ingår i: Acta odontologica Scandinavica. - 0001-6357. ; 48:3, s. 161-7
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Marginal adaptation and bacterial penetration were studied in 32 primary molars filled with composite resin in shallow class II cavities. The restorations had served in the mouth for 3 years (mean, 3 years and 4 months; range, 8 months to 6 years and 4 months). Ground sections of the retrieved teeth were evaluated with polarized light microscopy and demineralized sections with light microscopy. Clinically excellent restorations, free from bacteria, were found in 25%. Gaps were recorded in 42%, under- or over-contouring and porosities in 95%, caries in the cervical area in 58%. Bacteria were observed subjacent to the fillings in 75% and in the dentin tubules in 61%. Pupal necrosis was found in 7 of 16 teeth. Marginal discoloration, visible crevice, or color mismatch was associated with marginal defects, bacterial leakage, and pulpal reactions.
