- The last two decades have seen a rapid increase in the production and consumption of video by both professionals and amateurs. The near ubiquity of devices with video cameras and the rise of sites like YouTube have lead to the growth and transformation of the practices of producing, circulating, and viewing video, whether it be in households, workplaces, or research laboratories.This volume builds a foundation for studies of activities based in and around video production and consumption. It contributes to the interdisciplinary field of visual methodology, investigating how video functions as a resource for a variety of actors and professions.

- This essay considers the entangled nature of classroom spaces and mediated course content. The authors rework an example course on digital media theory by applying three queer tactics in order to make room for diversity. These tactics are disidentification, crisis and failure. Their application provided the original course content with a number of resonating queer themes, including temporality, virality, anarchives, glitch, heterodoxy, and agency for change. The final theme (agency for change) is expanded upon by resignifying resistance as something positive to be developed in the classroom space. Positive resistance includes an acknowledgement of oppression in both theory and practice as well as an appeal to values such as fairness, social justice and ethical accountability in critical analyses of media. The essay also introduces some unconventional genres of writing that can support the queering of digital media theory, namely: anti-thesis; media-archaeology; interaction criticism; media failure; and manifesto.

En ambition inom den kulturhistoriska medieforskning som presenteras i den kommande boken, Återkopplingar, är att genom ett breddat mediebegrepp och historisk sensibilitet uppdatera mediestudiet. Förnyelsen sker inte sällan i skärningspunkten mellan den ofta teknikdeterministiska mediearkeologin och den historiskt lika anspråksfulla som problematiska medialiseringsteorin.I denna bok presenteras 19 mediehistoriska texter som behandlar medieformer som skrivbord, papper, affischer, kassetter, fisheye linser, radio, telegraf, film, smarta telefoner, litografier, dagstidningar, mikrofilm, begagna de mp3-filer, krigsbyten, biblioteksbyggnader och ölkrus. - How are values and qualities expressed in interaction design? Previous research into this topic has largely been conceptual. How interaction designers and clients actually reason has only been touched upon in empirical studies. The research question for this paper is how interaction designers, as a collective and in an unfolding design process, concretize values and qualities in meetings with clients. By way of video recordings, we have analyzed two interaction design workshops. The analysis indicated that values were concretized top-down, from general conceptions and the design brief given, while also explored bottom-up. Several kinds of communicative means (e.g. talk, gestures, whiteboards, post-it notes) were used to animate values and design visions. Mixing a top-down and bottom-up approach allowed the designers to be both prescriptive and sensitive the uniqueness of the design situation. The differences in communicative means did not really matter for how values and qualities were made concrete. What mattered was that people really started talking with each other. Introduction

- This article examines the initial exchanges in calls to the Swedish emergency services, focusing on callers’ responses to the standardised opening phrase “SOS one one two, what has occurred?”. Comparisons across three age groups – children, teenagers and adults – revealed significant differences in caller behaviour. Whereas teenagers and adults offered reports of the incident, child callers were more prone to request dispatch of specific assistance units. This pattern was only observable when children were accompanied by an adult relative, which leads us to propose that child callers may be operating under prior adult instruction concerning how to request help. The second part of the analysis examines the local organisation of participants' actions, showing how turn-design and sequencing manifest the local concerns of the two parties. The analysis thus combines quantitative and qualitative methods to explore the ways through which the parties jointly produce an early sense of emergency incidents. These results are discussed in terms of children's agency and competence as informants granted to them by emergency operators, and how such competence ascriptions run against commonsense conceptualisations of children as less-than-full-fledged members of society.

- It is known that presentation of a meaningful label (e. g., The Teamwork Game) can influence decisions in economic games. A common view is that such labels cue associations to preexisting mental models of situations, a process here called frame selection. In the absence of such cues, participants may still spontaneously associate a game with a preexisting frame. We used the public goods game to compare the effect of such spontaneous frame selection with the effect of label framing. Participants in a condition where the public goods game was labeled The Teamwork Game tended to contribute at the same level as participants who spontaneously associated the unlabeled game with teamwork, whereas those who did not associate the the unlabeled game with teamwork tended to make lower contributions. We conclude that neutrally described games may be subject to spontaneous frame selection effects comparable in size to the effects of label framing.

- GRASP (Group and Social Psychology) is an interdisciplinary conference, which aims to provide a community around social psychological issues for researchers, practitioners, and graduate students from the Nordic countries within the fields of psychology, sociology, education, behavioural sciences and social work to share, exchange, learn, and develop preliminary results, new concepts, ideas, principles, and methodologies, as well as bridging the gaps between paradigms, encouraging interdisciplinary collaborations, and advancing our understanding of groups and social psychology.GRASP 2014 was the ninth Nordic conference was held in Linköping and hosted by the Department of Behavioural Sciences and Learning at Linköping University. The theme of the conference this year was on inclusion and exclusion as social processes. Twenty-two papers were accepted and presented at the conference. Keynote speech was given by Dr Siân Jones from Oxford Brookes University and Dr Ken Mavor from University of St Andrews. In line with the main theme of the conference, Siân Jones talked about “Bullying and belonging: Experimental data, real-world data, tears, and tantrums”. Ken Mavor talked about “Encapsulating the things that matter: Exploring identities for learning, social action and wellbeing”.The topics of the individual papers at GRASP 2014 were: (a) the role of categorization in personal change through participation in collective action, (b) students’ perspectives on bullying incidents, (c) mindfulness in values education in schools, (d) team-training and the executive team’s organizational influence, (e) using discursive psychology to show how students do ‘being collaborative’ in group work, (f) operational leadership and knowledge-transfer in high risk operations, (g) communication of risk in oil and gas megaprojects, (h) verbal expressions of “compassion” in an academic context, (i) a descriptive study of work groups in the Swedish and U.S. economy, (j) challenges and panaceas, as experienced by physicians, when introducing a patient centred and team based round, (k) leadership and communication in cross-cultural teams in a study of Korean/Scandinavian collaboration, (l) conscientiousness and agreeableness among prisoners, (m) ‘dark values’ – the dark triad hiding in Schwartz’ value orientation, (n) gender and legitimacy in student project groups, (o) between Skylla and Karybdis within academia – peer leadership or management, (p) illusion of invulnerability, need for cognition and resisting persuasion, (q) the significance of management climate on the quality of elderly care, (r) benevolence towards men and women, and traditional views of upbringing – a backlash to gender equality, (s) the role of equality in the decision making process in small groups, (t) bullying and defender behaviour amongst school children – the importance of moral emotions and moral disengagement, and (u) development of learning models through social experiments considering widening recruitment of university students.These proceedings bring you seven of the 22 papers from the conference.

Framings and coverage of climate change in Swedish specialized farming magazines

- Climate change is a fundamental challenge for which agriculture is sensitive and vulnerable. The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change has identified relevant information as key to enabling appropriate climate adaptation and mitigation action. Information specifically directed to farmers can be found, for example, in specialized farming magazines.While recent studies examine how national news media frame climate change, less —if any —studies have addressed climate framings and coverage in specialized media. Media framings are storylines that provide meaning by communicating how and why an issue should be seen as a problem, how it should be handled, and who is responsible for it. This paper analyses the framings and coverage of climate change in two Swedish specialized farming magazines from 2000 to 2009. It examines the extent of the climate change coverage, the content of the media items, and the dominant framings underlying their climate change coverage. The study identifies: increased coverage of climate change starting in 2007; frequent coverage of agriculture 's contribution to climate change, climate change impacts on agriculture, and consequences of climate politics for agriculture; and four prominent frames: conflict, scientific certainty, economic burden, and action. The paper concludes that climate change communicators addressing farmers and agricultural extension officers should pay attention to how these frames may be interpreted by different target audiences. Research is needed on how specialized media reports on climate-related issues and how science-based climate information is understood by different groups of farmers and which other factors influence farmers’ engagement in climate mitigation and adaptation.
