  • Inhibition of kainic acid binding to glutamate receptors by extracts of Gastrodia
  • 1995
  • Ingår i: Phytochemistry. - 0031-9422. ; 38:4, s. 835-836
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • S-(4-hydroxybenzyl)glutathione was isolated as the major principle responsible for the inhibition of the in vitro binding of kainic acid to brain glutamate receptors by water extracts of the plant Gastrodia elata. The affinity (IC50 value) of the compound is slightly lower compared to glutamate and glutathione.

  • Furanocoumarins with affinity to brain benzodiazepine receptors in vitro
  • 1997
  • Ingår i: Phytochemistry. - 0031-9422. ; 44:6, s. 1121-1124
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Eight furanocoumarins were isolated from a methanol extract of dried roots of Angelica dahurica. One of these, phellopterin, strongly (IC50 = 0.36 microM) inhibits the binding of [3H]diazepam to central nervous system benzodiazepine receptors in vitro, while the others, despite their structural similarities with phellopterin, are considerably less active.

  • Triacylglycerols of Vernonia galamensis seed oil
  • 1998
  • Ingår i: Phytochemistry. - 0031-9422. ; 47:5, s. 723-727
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Separation methods using silica gel column chromatography and preparative thin layer chromatography were employed to prepare pure triacylglycerol fractions of the oil from Vernonia galamensis seeds. Pure vernolic acid (12, 13-epoxy-octadec-cis-9-enoic acid) was prepared by enzymatic hydrolysis of the chromatographically purified major triacylglycerol, trivernolin, using a commercially available immobilised lipase in a non-polar organic solvent. Analysis of the divernoloyl and monovernoloyl triacylglycerols with porcine pancreatic lipase indicated that vernolic acid is found mainly as the secondary ester in the divernoloyl triacylglycerol but not the monovernoloyl triacylglycerol.

  • Prenylated isoflavanone from the roots of Erythrina sigmoidea
  • 1994
  • Ingår i: Phytochemistry. - 0031-9422. ; 36:4, s. 1047-1051
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • A novel prenylated isoflavanone, sigmoidin I, has been isolated from the roots of Erythrina sigmoidea, in addition to the known isoflavones, corylin and neobavaisoflavone and the known pterocarpan, phaseollidin. Its structure was established as 7,4'-dihydroxy-3'-methoxy-5'-(3-methylbut-2-enyl) isoflavanone by means of spectroscopic analyses and chemical transformations. Neobavaisoflavone displayed antifungal potency in vitro with minimum inhibitory concentrations against Aspergillus fumigatus and Cryptococcus neoformans, of 50 mg ml-1.

  • Eudesmane derivatives from Laggera crispata and Pluchea carolonesis
  • 1998
  • Ingår i: Phytochemistry. - : Elsevier. - 0031-9422 .- 1873-3700. ; 49:8, s. 2421-2424
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Investigation of the aerial parts of Laggera crispata and Pluchea carolonesis afforded in addition to several known compounds, three new eudesmane derivatives, 3β,4α-dihydroxy-7-epi-eudesm-11(13)-ene, 3α-(2′,3′-dihydroxy-2′-methylbutanoyl)-4,11-dihydroxy-6,7-dehydroeudesman-8-one and 3α-(3′-chloro-2′-hydroxy-2′-methylbutanoyl)cuauhtemone. The structures were elucidated by spectroscopic methods

  • Alphitol, a phenolic substance from Alphitonia zizyphoides which inhibits prostaglandin biosynthesis in vitro
  • 1998
  • Ingår i: Phytochemistry. - 0031-9422 .- 1873-3700. ; 48:3, s. 495-497
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The new phenolic compound, 3,5-dihydroxy-4-methoxy phenethyl alcohol, named alphitol, and betulinic acid were isolated from the bark of Alphitonia zizyphoides. The chemical structure of alphitol was determined by mass spectrometry in combination with one and two dimensional NMR, including HMBC. Both compounds inhibited prostaglandin biosynthesis in vitro, alphitol with an IC50 value of 0.66 mM, which is of the same magnitude as acetyl salicylic acid.

  • Floral fragrance chemistry in the early flowering shrub Daphne mezereum
  • 1996
  • Ingår i: Phytochemistry. - : Elsevier BV. - 0031-9422 .- 1873-3700. ; 41:6, s. 1477-1483
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The floral fragrance of the shrub Daphne mezereum in central Sweden was collected by means of the head-space technique and investigated by GC-MS and multi-dimensional GC. (S)-(+)-Linalool was the main constituent (95%) of the flower fragrance and its enantiomeric purity exceeded 99% in the samples. The (2S, 5S)- and (2R, 5S)-furanoid and the (3R, 6S)- and (3S, 6S)-pyranoid linalool oxide isomers constituted 2-5% of the fragrance. The elution order of these compounds on a permethylated beta-cyclodextrin column is reported. A fragrance sample of D. mezereum as well as (S)-(+)-linalool attracted males of the vernal solitary bee species Colletes cunicalarius and Andrena cinerea. A racemic mixture of the two enantiomeric pairs of known furanoid linalool oxides was only weakly attractive to the bees. The role of the fragrance in the pollination specialization of the plant is discussed.

  • Dimethyl Oligosulphides, Major Volatiles Released from Sauromatum Guttatum and Phallus-Impudicus
  • 1994
  • Ingår i: Phytochemistry. - : Elsevier. - 0031-9422 .- 1873-3700. ; 35:2, s. 321-323
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The odour released from the flower of the voodoo lily Sauromatum guttatum Araceae and the odour of the mushroom Phallus impudicus Phallaceae were analysed. The two species had the major constituents dimethyl disulphide and dimethyl trisulphide in common. Other major components of the S. guttatum excretion were beta caryophyllene, dimethyl sulphide, dimethyl tetrasulphide, indole and skatole. Linalool, trans-ocimene, and phenylacetaldehyde were released by P. impudicus.

  • Influence of Growth Regulators and an Elicitor on Phenylpropanoid Metabolism in Suspension Cultures of Vanilla planifolia
  • 1990
  • Ingår i: Phytochemistry. - 0031-9422 .- 1873-3700. ; 29:3, s. 845-848
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • A cell suspension culture of Vanilla planifolia has been established in MS-medium. 2,4-D suppressed while NAA enhanced the formation of extractable phenolics. Cytokinins appeared to favour lignin biosynthesis. Treatment of the culture with chitosan resulted in the induction of various enzymes of phenylpropanoid metabolism, while the amount of extractable phenolics decreased due to their rapid incorporation into polymeric ligneous material.
