  • Local Service-Delivery Networks for Unaccompanied Children in Sweden : evaluating Their Effectiveness
  • 2016
  • Ingår i: Journal of social service research. - : Routledge. - 0148-8376 .- 1540-7314. ; 42:5, s. 675-688
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This article defines the effectiveness of local service-delivery networks for unaccompanied and separated children (UASC) and develops criteria for evaluating the effectiveness of such networks in Sweden. It also explores factors and conditions that enhance network performance and suggests that cultural and multicultural competences are required for such networks to be effective. Twentyone evaluation criteria are developed for enhancing network performance generated from research into UASC, network governance theory, and the authors’ own evaluation of the reception of UASC in a Swedish municipality. The evaluation and this article are based on 32 interviews with social workers, legal guardians, care-home staff, teachers and school personnel, a questionnaire, and 11 interviews with UASC. The article reanalyzes data from the authors’ evaluation study finalized in 2014 and applies the criteria tentatively on this reception system. Experiences and findings include the importance of taking into account client needs and involvement in services when evaluating the effectiveness of service-delivery networks. The criteria can productively inform policy and practice when actors deliberate on how to assess and improve local reception-system and servicedelivery-network performance in different contexts.

  • To Coordinate Information in Practice : Dilemmas and Strategies in Care Management for Citizens with Dementia
  • 2017
  • Ingår i: Journal of social service research. - : Taylor & Francis. - 0148-8376 .- 1540-7314. ; 43:3, s. 319-335
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This qualitative study, based on 19 interviews with care managers, explores the experiences of care-managers involved in assessing the need for social services for people with dementia. The study shows that social workers, as care managers, face several dilemmas in their practice concerning people with dementia, in relation to the exchange of information and in regards to conflicting interests between different actors involved in the assessment of the need for support for people with dementia. Strategies used to handle problematic situations that arise in their work are using other sources for information (e.g., relatives and actors from other professions), persuading, and pursuing creative forms of consent. However, the study shows that dilemmas and strategies used generate other, prominently moral, dilemmas for care managers in their practice, which relate to participation and self-determination by the person with dementia. The study shed light on the problematic situation for care managers in their work to coordinate information and further the new “realities“ that they encounter as well as on how to handle these new situations. This study suggests possible ways to improve the everyday work of care managers, as well as how policies concerning social work and people with dementia can be improved.

  • The Understanding and Use of Reflection in Family Support Social Work
  • 2018
  • Ingår i: Journal of social service research. - : Informa UK Limited. - 0148-8376 .- 1540-7314. ; 44:4, s. 494-508
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Previous research emphasizes the need for reflection in complex, dynamic practices, like social work. However, increased governance of the public sector and welfare state has caused a reform, which inturn has affected the layout and conditions of work. Private sector control ideals and ideas from theauditing system have led to a new focus. It is argued that we should subordinate practiceapproaches–characterized by reflection, proven experience, and tacit knowledge–to manual-based treatment, evaluations, and assessments. This study aims at understanding the role ofreflection in social work by investigating its use and valuation by family support social workers.Opportunities and resources for reflection are another focus. Focus group interviews (nD40) wereused to produce data. The need for reflection to conduct highly qualitative social work becameevident. The question is notwhetherto reflect or not, ratherhowthis best can be done, givencurrent time constraints. Reflection was considered a coping mechanism, offering a sense ofprofessional legitimacy. Organizational changes seem to impact on time for reflection. However, when enabling process, learning, and development, it can be argued that reflection is beneficial forseveral parties. Therefore, reflection requires continued emphasis, highlighting its potential benefits.

  • Mental illness in the population is increasing : a challenge for telephone advice nurses
  • 2017
  • Ingår i: Journal of social service research. - : Informa UK Limited. - 0148-8376 .- 1540-7314. ; 43:3, s. 432-432
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Mental illness is a term that includes everything from mild symptoms of anxiety and depression to more serious mental illnesses such as schizophrenia, depression, and suicide. Reports indicate a negative trend, where rates of mental illness in the population are increasing, especially among children and adolescents and among the elderly. This negative trend in Swedish society requires not only preventive measures to stem the negative trend but also ongoing community resources to assist, support, and advise people with mental illness who seek care.

  • Exploring barriers to adoption of Virtual Reality through Social Media Analytics and Machine Learning – An assessment of technology, network, price and trialability
  • 2019
  • Ingår i: Journal of Business Research. - : Elsevier BV. - 0148-2963 .- 1873-7978. ; 100, s. 469-474
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This paper aims to assess how diffusion of Virtual Reality (VR) technology is taking place and identify potential barriers to increased adoption. This is done by utilising Social Media Analytics to collect a data set covering an empirical material of 6044 user-generated content concerning the market‑leading VR headsets Oculus Rift and HTC Vive, and machine learning to identify critical barriers to adoption. Our findings suggest that there is a lack of sufficient technological performance of these headsets and that more applications are required for this technology to take off. We contribute to literature on VR by providing a systematic assessment of current barriers to adoption while also pointing out implications for marketing.
