  • 1984
  • Doktorsavhandling (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • Tryckfrihetens gränser is a doctrinal analysis of the constitutional provisions regarding the freedom of the press with a focus on the limits of those provisions, especially the sections related to criminal liability. The thesis is divided into four chapters. Chapter I deals with the field of application of the Freedom of the Press Act (Tryckfrihetsförordningen), which is an integral part of the Constitution. Different kinds of conflicts between this legislation and ordinary legislation are discussed. According to Swedish law, the constitutional principle of freedom of the press is restricted through a teleological interpretation, meaning that only expressions which further a free flow of opinions or promote general enlightenment are exlusively protected by the Constitution. Hence, advertising for example, has to a large extent been excluded from constitutional protection. The basis for this view is that the freedom of expression has been given constitutional protection because, above all, it is a condition for the proper functioning of democracy; expressions or statements that have no relevance in this respect can thereby be judged according to ordinary legislation without considering the Constitution. The author points out that such a ”functional” way of understanding the concept of freedom of the press can result in an interpretation which only covers politically relevant information. Such a concept would differ substantially from a more classical freedom of the press concept.Chapter II explains the liability for the contents in printed matter. The legislation is based on an artificial and objective (strict) liability that is unique in Swedish law. The purpose of this chapter is to explain those rules and to coordinate them with other penal legislation. The crimes regulated in the Freedom of the Press Act are examined in Chapter III. Among the crimes presented here, from a freedom of speech point of view, are: high treason, rebellion, espionage, revealing of privileged information, instigation of rebellion, defamation and agitation against a group of people based on their racial, ethnical, national or religious background.Chapter IV deals with the rules of the constitutional right to provide information to the press. To a very large extent Swedish law guarantees the right to protection from reprisal and the right to remain anonymous for those who contribute to or assist in the production of printed matter. Only the person who is formally liable for the contents of the publication is required to come forth to face possible punishment, whereas assistance normally cannot be the subject of legal reprisal. The legislation also provides the press with a special position regarding access to information: official secrets and other legally privileged information can often be exposed without the risk of a criminal action if they are revealed through contacts with the press. This special privilege legislation is the subject of some criticism in the thesis, partly because it results in a technically complicated system of regulation and partly because the author believes that privileges should be avoided in the Constitution: ”the freedom of the press should be the freedom of everybody”. The author suggests some changes in the current legislation that would diminish the problems pointed out without limiting the media’s access to information.

  • Feldspar: Application and Implementation
  • 2012
  • Ingår i: Lecture Notes in Computer Science (including subseries Lecture Notes in Artificial Intelligence and Lecture Notes in Bioinformatics). - Berlin, Heidelberg : Springer Berlin Heidelberg. - 1611-3349 .- 0302-9743. ; 7241, s. 402-439
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The Feldspar project aims to develop a domain specific language for Digital Signal Processing algorithm design. From functional descriptions, imperative code (currently C) is generated. The project partners are Ericsson, Chalmers and ELTE, Budapest. The background and motivation for the project have been documented elsewhere [3]. We aim to raise the level of abstraction at which algorithm developers and implementors work, and to generate, from Feldspar descriptions, the kind of code that is currently written by hand. These lecture notes first give a brief introduction to Feldspar and the style of programming that it encourages. Next, we document the implementation of Feldspar as a domain specific language (DSL), embedded in Haskell. The implementation is built using a library called Syntactic that was built for this purpose, but also designed to be of use to other implementors of embedded domain specific languages. We show the implementation of Feldspar in sufficient detail to give the reader an understanding of how the use of the Syntactic library enables the modular construction of an embedded DSL. For those readers who would like to apply these techniques to their own DSL embedded in Haskell, further instructions are given in section 5. The programming examples are available in the CEFP directory of the Feldspar package, version 0.5.0.1: http://hackage.haskell.org/package/ feldspar-language-0.5.0.1 The code can be fetched by running: > cabal unpack feldspar-language-0.5.0.1 All code is written in Haskell, and has been tested using the Glasgow Haskell Compiler (GHC), version 7.0.2, and the packages syntactic-0.8 feldspar-language-0.5.0.1 feldspar-compiler-0.5.0.1

  • On the Performance of Classification Algorithms for Learning Pareto-Dominance Relations
  • 2014
  • Ingår i: Proceedings of the 2014 IEEE Congress on Evolutionary Computation (CEC). - : IEEE Press. - 9781479914883 - 9781479966264 ; , s. 1139-1146
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Multi-objective evolutionary algorithms (MOEAs)are often criticized for their high-computational costs. Thisbecomes especially relevant in simulation-based optimizationwhere the objectives lack a closed form and are expensive toevaluate. Over the years, meta-modeling or surrogate modelingtechniques have been used to build inexpensive approximationsof the objective functions which reduce the overall number offunction evaluations (simulations). Some recent studies however, have pointed out that accurate models of the objective functionsmay not be required at all since evolutionary algorithms onlyrely on the relative ranking of candidate solutions. Extendingthis notion to MOEAs, algorithms which can ‘learn’ Paretodominancerelations can be used to compare candidate solutionsunder multiple objectives. With this goal in mind, in thispaper, we study the performance of ten different off-the-shelfclassification algorithms for learning Pareto-dominance relationsin the ZDT test suite of benchmark problems. We considerprediction accuracy and training time as performance measureswith respect to dimensionality and skewness of the training data.Being a preliminary study, this paper does not include results ofintegrating the classifiers into the search process of MOEAs.

  • In situ generation of iminodiacetic acid groups on nanoporous alumina for the reversible immobilization of enzymes and other biomolecules
  • 2014
  • Ingår i: Biotechnology letters. - : Springer Science and Business Media LLC. - 0141-5492 .- 1573-6776. ; 36:9, s. 1819-1825
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Nanoporous alumina membranes were silanized with aminopropylsilane and iminodiacetic acid (IDA) groups were generated in situ by reaction with iodoacetate. The membranes were mounted in standard filter holders, connected to a HPLC system and saturated with selected metal ions. Cu(II) allowed the capture of chicken muscle lactate dehydrogenase with such stability, repeatability and reproducibility that Michaelis-Menten kinetics could be studied. The IDA surface was stable for months and could be depleted and regenerated with metal ions multiple times without appreciable loss of capacity. The binding of lactate dehydrogenase influenced the backpressure to the extent that could be expected for a monolayer according to Poiseuilles law.

  • Interaction Design Methods in Fashion Design Teaching
  • 2007
  • Ingår i: The Nordic Textile Journal 2006-07, p. 26-51. - : University College of Borås. The Swedish School of Textiles.
  • Tidskriftsartikel (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • The expressiveness of use is of focal interest in fashion design, which makes the perspective of act design important in learning/teaching. The objective of the project presented here was to introduce interaction design methods in fashion design teaching to make act design explicit throughout the different stages of the design process in a systematic manner; to develop a general workshop curriculum in experimental fashion design focusing on the expressiveness of wearing and use. A series of test workshops were implemented to provide a foundation for reflection and critical discussions. The main results, motivated by workshop evaluations, consist of theoretical models for a systematic development of workshop exercises in fashion design aesthetics.
