- When establishing relations of equivalence between expressions in a source language and a target language, the bilingual lexicog¬rapher has various matters to consider: (1) whether to apply the contrastive perspective already when analyzing the source lan¬guage, (2) what kind of equivalence relationship should be estab¬lished, and (3) how to handle the different degrees of convention¬alization and lexicalization of concepts and expressions in the source language and target language, respectively. In addition, modern technology has influenced dictionary making, dictionary usage and possible user groups. For instance, lacunae of equiva¬lents have become obvious in web-based dictionaries. This paper discusses these matters – after a brief initial discussion about bilingual lexicography and its relationship to translation theory.

- The ISLEX projects aim at developing an on-line dictionary site with Icelandic as the source language and the three Scandinavian languages as the target languages. This article presents the ISLEX projects, focusing on the phraseological aspects of the bilingual Icelandic-Swedish dictionary. It also describes the work on Frasbanken.se, an onomasiological electronic resource for presenting phrasemes in Swedish. Frasbanken.se is being developed to give additional phraseological information to users of the Icelandic-Swedish version of ISLEX, and is also meant to be used as a self-contained phraseological component for L2 and L1 speakers of Swedish. In developing Frasbanken.se, our main concern has been to meet the lexicographical and pedagogical needs of the L2 speaker with respect to phraseology. L2 speakers are known to acquire phraseological information at a late stage in their linguistic progress. Lack of phraseological competence can lead to complications for the learner; he or she needs to rely heavily on grammatical rules, failing to use prefabricated chunks, and the L2 speaker appears less idiomatic in his or her language production. Frasbanken.se is thus a well-directed resource for competent L1 speakers of Iceelandic with Swedish as their L2.

- In recent years, most dictionary publishers have developed dictionary apps. However, in comparison with the comprehensive scientific study of printed and web-based dictionaries, conducted research on this kind of lexicographical resource is so far limited. This article discusses four monolingual dictionary apps developed by The Society for Danish Language and Literature. The focus is on the contemporary dictionary The Danish Dictionary. Different search functions are discussed, as well as how data is presented. The article also deals with what kinds of dictionaries are best suited for the app format. A key issue is whether this format really does render all dictionaries justice, and if app development is always advisable from a user’s perspective.
