    • ADS based Mason circuit model of solidly mounted FBARs is proposed where coexistence of both thickness mode longitudinal and shearwaves is assumed. While calculating the leakage of longitudinal and shear waves into the substrate via Bragg reflector the model takes into account multiple reflections from top and bottom electrodes. The results of modeling are useful in optimization of ferroelectric film deposition process and the design of the resonators.

  • Facile Synthesis of Porous SnO(2) Spherical-Like Aggregates and Their Gas Sensing Property

    • Porous spherical-like aggregates synthesis of SnO(2) crystals was achieved via a hydrothermal process in the mixed solvents of water and ethanol. The products were characterized by powder X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy and Raman measurements. Morphological characterization showed that porous spherical-like aggregates were composed of short nanorods. Three main peaks broadening and shifting to high wavenumber in Raman spectrum implied that the components of the products had a smaller size. The result of the gas sensing measurement indicated that porous spherical-like aggregates had excellent ethanol gas sensing property compared to that of nanoparticles.

  • High-Pressure Phase Transition of ZnO Nanorods Using Density Functional Theory

    • We constructed ZnO nanorods combining energy of surface and core atoms within B4 and B1 phases. Their morphologies were directly built up based on previous experiments and transformation path. ZnO nanorods were varied in diameter and length. By using density functional theory with GGA exchange-correlation functional, the surfaces were cleaved from the optimized crystal structures at various different pressures in both B4 and B1 phases. A slab model with a fixed top atomic layer was employed to achieve the surfaces under high pressure. The finding shows transition pressure increases with decreasing diameter and as well as increasing length of nanorods, which is in good agreement with previous experiments.

    • We study the interaction between a nano-contact spin torque oscillator (STO) and injected radio-frequency and microwave currents. Modulation of the STO signal is observed over a wide frequency range from 100 MHz to 3.2 GHz. The modulation sidebands agree well with macrospin simulations. When the injected microwave frequency approaches that of the STO, we observe injection locking, frequency pulling/pushing, and intermodulation peaks. While the intermodulation peaks are reasonably well reproduced by macrospin simulations, they do not follow the Adler's model. We argue that this discrepancy is due to intrinsic ringing effects stemming from the internal dynamics of the STO.

    • Dielectric response of the BiFeO3 films in a parallel-plate capacitor configuration is studied in the frequency range 1 MHz-30 GHz and under dc electric field up to 45 V/mu m in view of their application in tunable film bulk acoustic wave resonators. The observed relatively high permittivity 130 without remarkable frequency dispersion is explained by contribution of the domain wall vibrations. It is shown that the substrate induced strain and Maxwell-Wagner contributions are negligible. The measured dielectric response allows estimation of the BiFeO3 sound velocity and acoustic impedance as 3100 m/s and 26 . 10(6) kg/m(2)s, respectively.
