  • Aspects of Finite Element simulation of axi-symmetric hydromechanical deep drawing
  • 2001
  • Ingår i: Journal of manufacturing science and engineering. - 1087-1357 .- 1528-8935. ; 123:3, s. 411-415
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • A new approach for the Finite Element modelling of the hydromechanical deep drawing process is evaluated. In the model a Finite Difference approximation of Reynold's equation is solved for the fluid flow between the blank and the draw die in the flange region. The approach is implemented as a contact algorithm in an explicit Finite Element code, Exhale2D. The developed model is verified against experiments and good agreement is obtained. It is concluded that the developed model is a promising approach for simulating the hydromechanical deep drawing process using the Finite Element Method.

  • Process Analysis of Laser Beam Cladding
  • 2001
  • Ingår i: Journal of manufacturing science and engineering. - : ASME International. - 1087-1357 .- 1528-8935. ; 123:4, s. 609-614
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The technology of laser beam cladding of metals by single-step powder delivery is analyzed with a process model which is based on balance equations of energy and mass. Effects like powder heating, clad layer formation, substrate dilution and overlapping of tracks are discussed in dependence of the process parameters. In particular, the powder catchment efficiency and the beam energy redistribution in the material can be optimized by the powder mass flow rate and by the geometrical properties of the beam and of the powder jet

  • Steady state performance characteristics of a tilting pad thrust bearing
  • 2001
  • Ingår i: Journal of tribology. - : ASME International. - 0742-4787 .- 1528-8897. ; 123:3, s. 608-615
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The paper reports results of the experimental investigation into the steady state performance characteristics of a tilting pad thrust bearing typical of design in general use. Simultaneous measurements are taken of the pad and collar temperatures, the pressure distributions, oil film thickness, and power loss as a function of shaft speed, bearing load, and supplied oil temperature. The effect of operating conditions on bearing performance is discussed. A small radial temperature variation is observed in the collar. A reduction in minimum oil film thickness with load is approximately proportional to p-0.6, where p is an average bearing pressure. It has also been found that the oil film pressure profiles change not only due to the average bearing load but also with an increase in shaft speed and temperature of the supplied oil.
